Capítulo 1: Prologue

The human mind is not capable of comprehending the none existent, for beings that occupy reality are completely antithetical to the state of non being.

To describe the plane of unreality, one must do away with any preconceived notion of what reality is, which is an impossible task for anyone that could boast even a modicum of sanity. One can attempt to use terms like the void, darkness, or empty, but these words are entirely inadequate. For these things in themselves are something as they represent opposites or the absence of something else, therefore they too occupy a state of reality.

This is why one must beg forgiveness for attempting to avoid more details of one's own time within that space between spaces, that unreal place that mere words cannot even convey the tiniest of fractions of a vain hope of understanding.

Being in that not place and in that nonexistent time was disturbing to an extreme degree, to be fully aware while also being entirely incapable of comprehending one's own environment. Memories were the only things that could keep insanity at bay, to dream and to think of things that exist or at least once existed was like a drop of fresh water in a vast ocean of sand within a dry desert. With all senses but thought removed, I could easily recall my previous existence.

I was a simple man who lived a simple life, not too smart but not entirely ignorant either. My folks were kind and decent people who clawed their way out of poverty and into the middle class to provide for me and my siblings.

Life was normal, I went to school, made a few friends, and promptly lost them all as soon as graduation came. Got a new job every other year in pursuit of higher and higher pay, made new friends that stuck around, and spent my time either working, socializing, or consuming media.

But other than that, I strove for a dream, my one true goal in life, something that in the twenty-first century was probably too overly ambitious. I wanted to find myself a loyal woman, buy a house, start a family, and teach my children to become better than me. Crazy I know, to have goals outside of watching the latest Marvel movie or playing whatever micro-transaction shit pile the gaming industry shoveled out every other month. However, that is my goal, or at least was my goal.

But as the saying goes. If you want to make God laugh just tell him your plans.

The sun was shining high in the air when I drove off from the easiest interview of my life, it was a cushy position as a gate guard for a rich neighborhood. The pay was decent and there was hardly ever any real work to do especially for the night shift position, which only became busy during holidays or when one of the residents threw a party from what I was told. All that they cared about was if you had a pulse, would show up, and didn't do drugs on the job.

The green arrow had lit up and I turned left towards the highway, I was too distracted with the memories of my interview so my defensive driving skills didn't react in time for the idiot running a red.

Ironically it wasn't a truck, it was a goddamn motorcycle, the guy somehow managed to get enough air to slam into my driver's window and shatter my skull with his front tire. Unfortunately, I didn't even die on impact, I sat there twitching and in so much pain that it was felt even through the adrenaline pumping through my veins.

There was the vague sound of car doors slamming and the shouting of bystanders. Funny enough it wasn't the motorcycle that finally did me in, it was when someone tried to help me and pulled me out of the car, a piece of my fractured skull came loose and stabbed my brain, I snuffed it right then and there.

So then here I was, in this place completely unknowable to all, the antitheses of reality itself, the not space between spaces, the immaterium. Time had no meaning here, so there was no knowing for how long I was here, counting within my mind would only help so much until thoughts would drift from that task. So I stayed in this state, not knowing what would happen and being far too weary to be panicked any longer.

That was until it came. For the longest time, this nonexistence defied definition until a being came before me. Its titanic size and humanoid-shaped body were made from a nebula, its singular cycloptic eye was an entire galaxy in the middle of its head.

The being turned its galactic eye towards me, sending a rush of fear and anticipation through my entire being.

"You…I know you." The being spoke with the voice of countless quadrillions of souls speaking as one within my mind.

It knew me, I didn't know, couldn't know, if that was a good thing or not.

"You will go now, to a different time, a different place." The being declared.

"Who are you?" I couldn't help but ask.

"I am…that I am." The stranger lifted its hand, and then did I realize that I had been sitting within its palm. "Now go...and show the world my wonders"

I then felt myself falling at great speed, stars and planets and other celestial bodies passed me in a blur of light. Visions then flooded my mind, a vision of Earth forming and being given life. A vast verdant garden that stretched as far as the eye can see was guarded by a winged man with a flaming sword, black pyramids floating above vast cities inhabited by giants. Civilization was destroyed by calamity as volcanoes brought about a new ice age and disease killed those that remained. All but a few would survive and civilization would be birthed anew.

Humanity rose and created much but would forget more than it could ever discover. New cities would be built, new wars would be fought, and new dangers would challenge the species. I saw a glowing child mark a new epoch for man, how he would grow and lead a rebellion against his collectivist overlords. How those with their own strange abilities would be birthed and bring about their own change, how civilization would almost be destroyed entirely once again by the wars fought between these new humans with powers that defied impossibility.

My eyes beheld how these powerful beings became warlords and carve vast swaths of land for their own domains. How a few would resist and bring the fight against these new tyrants, how mankind miraculously came out of these times only having regressed a single century. But the goals of the tyrants would be inherited by others and would be named villains, and those that opposed them would be given the title of heroes.

I now knew where I was going, a world of fiction was being made real for me. For what reason? Impossible to say. All I do know, however, is that I was being given another chance at my dream to carve out a little slice of happiness, and perhaps I could become a hero along the way.
