Capítulo 45: Book 1 - The Rose-Red Tyrant: Chapter 25; A Sad Little Child

The screen turns back on as the next chapter title plays "Chapter - 25; A Sad Little Child".

It opens zooming in on Yuu as she visualizes something.

The visual is of a shadowy house through the eyes of a child. There is an entirely blacked out woman that says "Happy eight birthday, Riddle." Showing that Riddle is the child and that the woman is most likely his mother with this being his house. Riddle's mother continues "This year's birthday cake is a low-sugar recipe made with nuts and lecithin-rich soy flour to improve your cerebral function."

The child who's eyes Yuu was seeing through, or rather child Riddle tells the mother "Thank you. But, mom…" He pauses, nervous about what he's about to say before continuing "Just once, I'd like to try one of those tarts covered with bright-red strawberries…" But Riddle's mother exclaims "Absolutely not! Those tarts are monstrously unhealthy. I might as well feed you poison!" Now in an attempt to explain her actions she continues with "Even just a single slice would exceed your recommended daily intake of sugar."

Before moving on by saying "Now, dinner tonight will be a tuna sauté rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Now that you're eight, your caloric intake should be…" She pauses for a second appearing to try and calculate the answer before continuing with the answer "-be 600 kilocalories per meal, so don't eat more than 100 grams of it. Understood?" Riddle answers, clearly disappointed "Yes, Mom."

Then in a white void there normal Riddle is standing in his dorm uniform as boxes of his thoughts, as if watching them appear.

The first box says "I'd always" then the next continues with "wanted to try one of those tarts" as the third appears and further continues "with the bright-red strawberries." The first three boxes disappear as three more show up one at a time like before. In the first box "The local cake shop had them in the window." Then the second one said "They shined at me" with the third continuing the second "like forbidden jewels."

It then goes back to the shadowy house, through child Riddle's eyes. This time Riddle was sitting at the table with a few books around him as his mother sat across from him. She closed the book in her hands, making sure to mark where she had left off as she said "That's enough classical magic study for today. Your homework is to read the first fifty pages of the philosophy of language book referenced in today's magical philosophy texts."

Then standing up as she prepares to leave the room, she tells Riddle "You may now have one hour of independent study before your potionology lesson." Before she fully walked out Riddle told her "Thank you, Mother."

A smile is able to be made out of the blacked out figure of the mother as she says "I need some time to prepare the lesson materials. I will see you in one hour, okay?" Before walking out.

It then shifts back to the white void with normal Riddle as three more boxes appear before disappearing and letting new ones take their place.

The first box says "I was studying every possible subject," as the next box continued "scheduled down to the minute." The third box then stated "When I didn't understand something, the lesson was extended until I did." They then disappear as two new ones take their place. The first saying "That was" as the second continued "my "normal."

As it shifts back to house shortly after the mother had left and Riddle had started his independent study.

There was suddenly a sound coming from the window, as Riddle looked up he curiously asked "...Is someone knocking on the window?" Another kid's voice is heard saying "Whoa, he heard us!"

Riddle then managed to open the window, as he let his curiosity get the better of him. Below were a few kids, entirely blacked out as well, but only two of the blacked out kids stayed.

Once he was seen, one of the kids who stayed there calls out to Riddle "Hey, come play with us!" Riddle didn't answer them as he asked "Who are you?" The kid who had called out introduced himself and the other kid "I'm Chenya, and that's Trey."

He then offers out "Let's all play croquet! Oh, but it's LOTS of fun!" But Riddle shakes his hands in front of him telling them "I can't. I'm supposed to be doing independent study, and I have a lot of homework to do." But the blacked out child Chenya reasons ""Independent study" means you pick what to do, right? My grandpa says play is a form of study!" The younger Trey also tries to convince him saying "Just play with us for a little bit!"

Child Riddle looks around cautiously as he tells them "...O-okay… Just a little, though!" The younger Chenya and Trey help Riddle through the window as Trey asks him "Hey, what's your name?" Riddle tells them "R-Riddle. Riddle Rosehearts."

Once again in the white void with older Riddle and the boxes. The first box says "I had the best time" as the second continues "playing with Trey and Chenya." As the third states "We did so many things I'd never done before." It then shows one box as his nostalgia feeling kicks in, as the box reads "They taught me lots of things I didn't know." It disappears as three boxes show with new messages. The first being "After that, I snuck out of my room every day" the second continued "To play with them" as the third finished "during independent study time."

It then switches to a black and white outside as the younger Chenya asks "Whaaat? You've never even tried a strawberry tart? They're out of this world!" But Riddle just answers "Yeah. My mom says sugar is basically poison." The younger Trey states at that "I mean, you probably shouldn't eat too much of it, but calling it "poison" is kinda…yikes."

The air gets slightly depressing so Trey offers to them "You know, my family runs a cake shop. Let's go get a tart right now!" Riddle is excited and intrigued by the idea as he shouts "Really?!" But quickly dials himself back saying "But…I shouldn't." But Trey counters "Just one slice. It'll be fine." As Chenya tells them "One slice for YOU, maybe. I want a whole one!" Before they start to walk off to get them.

Now back in the white void as more boxes show up.

The first saying "A bright-red strawberry tart on a white plate." Then the second "To me, shined more brightly" as the third finishes "than any gem could." They disappear as more take their place. The first "That first bite was so sweet. It tasted" as the second finished "like nothing I'd ever eaten before." They disappear again as more take their place. First "With each bite," then the second "I became more" as the third finished "entranced…" Before they all disappeared leaving one box saying "...and completely lost track of time."

Now back at the house with Riddle's mother in front of him as she cries out "I cannot believe this! Not only are you cutting independent study time, but I find you eating a mountain of sugar?! Those two hoodlums must have incited this behavior. You must never play with them again!"

Riddle is crying about all of this as he apologizes "I'm sorry, Mother! I promise, it will never happen again!"

But Riddle's mother just strictly and rudely and quite rudely tells him "Be quiet! You've broken the rules, and I'll not hear another word from you." Now in an almost delirious state she says to herself "Clearly, you're not able to handle the freedom of independent study. I need to keep a closer eye on you."

It then shifts back to that white void with more boxes with text showing up.

The first "Because I broke the rules," the second "my favorite part of" as the third finishes "my day was taken away from me." They disappeared with two taking their place. The first "I vowed to never break" then the second "my mother's rules again." They disappear as two more boxes appear reading "After all, she was the most accomplished mother" then the second "in the city, and therefore, the most correct."

They disappear as one at a time boxes appear rapid-fire. "But Mom…" "Why?" "Why does my heart hurt so much?" "I want to eat a tart! It's my birthday," "So why can't I have some just this once?" "I want to play outside all day long!" "I want to make lots and lots of friends!"

The grown up Riddle's face had started to turn into longing and sadness.

As three more boxes appear at once. The first "Tell me, Mom, please…" then the second "What rules do I need to follow" as the third says "to make this pain go away?"

It then exits into a purely black void as Trey's voice is heard shouting "Riiiiiddle!"

Before Yuu is shown being taken out of the trance-like state she was in with the visualization.

As the screen shows "To be continued" before fully turning off.
