Capítulo 25: Shopping is Fun?

Emilia wiggles out of their embrace and takes a step back. "Sorry, any more would be beyond my limit. But hey, you said we're going shopping, right? Let's get ready so we can go! I've never actually been shopping before." Emilia says. To be honest, she isn't looking forward to this shopping trip, especially because she knows it's their attempt to create a bond with her. However, even shopping is better than being hugged and having affection forced on her.

Vira quickly catches on and starts rummaging through the pile of clothes she had brought with her. Meanwhile Quin grabs a hair dryer and sits Emilia down on a chair in front of an unnecessarily large vanity mirror. Once the drying was complet, she turned Emilia around to look at the selection that Vira has picked out.

"I don't know if you like pink or girly or if you prefer the tomboy look but here's what I have. Pink blouse or black t-shirt adorned in silver gems that make a heart. As for bottoms, I noticed that you have a lot of skirts but since you seem to like freedom of movement, I chose either some black skinny jeans or denim shorts with leggings underneath. You get final say of course and if you want a different selection, I can try again." Vira explains nervously.

"I'll take the black t-shirt and the shorts with leggings. Thanks Vira." Emilia says, a hint of amusement in her voice as she watches her sister squirm. "Alright, great choices!" Vira squeals happily as she hands Emilia the clothes. Emilia quickly gets dressed and then sits back down so Quin can work on her hair. Quin does a simple and loose braid. She isn't used to styling long hair since she kept her own hair short and Vira never asks for help with hers.

Finally ready, the three women go downstairs and into the garage. Quin goes over to a Jeep Grand Cherokee but Vira shakes her head. "Nope. We're taking the Chevy Pickup this time." She says matter-of-factly. Quin looks to Emilia. "Is that what you want to do? That truck doesn't have much room so our shopping will have to be limited." Quin explains. Emilia looks between the two vehicles and then looks over to a cherry red Chevrolet Tahoe with hopeful eyes. "Could we take that one?" Emilia asks the other women.

Both women look over to the Tahoe and then to each other. "Perfect!" They say in unison. Quin gets into the driver seat while Emilia sits in the passenger and Vira goes in the back. "Hope you don't mind sitting next to mom, she and I will do nothing but argue the entire ride if I sit too close to her." Vira says from the back while she places her ear buds in. Emilia shrugs and gives Quin a kind smile. They drive out of the garage and off of the property, Emilia staring out the window the entire time.

An hour passes before the girls stop at a large outlet mall. Emilia gets out of the car and stares, mouth agape, at the giant store. She's never been to a mall, let alone a store of any kind. She feels herself start to shake with excitement as she impatiently waits for Quin and Vira to give her the go ahead. Vira guffaws and nods her head, giving her permission to Emilia. Emilia doesn't miss a beat as she zooms off into the mall on her own.

She enters through the automatic doors and stares with wide eyes at the various smaller stores inside of the building. The excitement builds as she notices a small restaurant in the middle of the store. She runs over, temporarily forgetting that she has no money, and gets in line for a soda. When her turn to order comes up, Emilia is hit with reality. Her face turns sad as she begins to leave the line but Vira turns her back toward the counter.

"Where do you think you're going? You want something, don't you?" Vira asks with a wink. "Well yeah but I don't have any money." Emilia replies. Vira rolls her eyes. "Don't worry about it, you're a Rose." Vira explains. "I'll get a sweet tea with extra ice, a lemonade with a pinch of sugar, and… What do you want sis?" Vira asks. Emilia quietly points at a mountain dew and Vira completes the order.

After the girls get their drinks, they continue walking around. "Any stores interest you?" Quin asks as she pops up behind them. "Well, I'm not too sure honestly." Emilia replies shyly. "Let's check out everything and when we find something you like, we can stop and shop. And don't worry about prices, okay? The moon is the limit for people like us."Vira says with a wink.

The three women go from store to store looking around and picking various items for themselves. Emilia starts to enjoy herself as she experiences things she had never known were possible for her. Being a sheltered child who wasn't allowed to leave the house for more than three hours each day with a chaperone, her excitement continues building the longer she stays in the mall.

Everything is going so well and Emilia is having so much fun that she forgets all about the danger and nightmarish things she has gone through. She just wants to enjoy this freedom and relish in the things she is currently feeling. Too bad, fate has a different plan for her.

As Emilia and Vira walk around in a small furniture store, Vira bumps into someone who Emilia recognizes immediately. "Winston?! What the hell are you doing here?" Emilia shouts at the man she used to believe was her brother. "Well, I didn't like how things ended back home so I sorta followed you guys out here. I just wanted to make sure that you were okay. You can't get mad at me for that, right?" He says while taking a step toward her. Vira steps in front of him protectively. "Hey sis, you know this guy or something?" Vira asks Emilia. Emilia turns away from Winston while grabbing Vira's arm. "No, I don't. He's a stranger. Let's go." Emilia replies as she drags Vira out of the store. Winston watches with a sad expression on his face.
