Capítulo 5: I Choose You! [5]

Getting closer, I could practically feel the restrained energy from the adorable guys. My eyes scanned all of them in interest.

"All three of them know social norms. None of them will damage property on purpose and won't initiate contact unless given permission."

Professor Birch walking around the desk, goes next to me and starts to introduce the starters.

Starting with the firebird.

"This is for Torchic the fire-type starter. A great choice with its particularly rare type in the wild. He is a good cuddler being able to act as a warmer on the coldest weathers when hugged. This specific one is mostly docile but a little cheeky!" He says, soon after moving on to Treecko.

"Treecko a grass-type is also a solid choice as its maneuverability is used by its feet to stick to surfaces. Paired with its instincts getting through forests in a breeze. This particular one is more of the silent serious type."

Hearing the explanation I just nod. Professor Birch who was about the move on saw me taking notes which made him grin.

'I don't particularly remember Ash's Treecko doing that, or may hugging her Torchic when cold. It's either my memory sucks or they didn't know, how interesting.'

As he did for Treecko and Torchic, he started talking about the final one.

"This is Mudkip the water-type Pokemon. With its sensitive fin on its head, it can predict the weather. Another good choice for adventuring out. Being able to swim you out of trouble while walking on land too, is very versatile. This little one is also the serious type as well but takes instructions literally."

With a glint in my eyes, my thoughts from the car were answered. Pulling out my notebook I wanted to show I was taking this seriously.

A person is more likely to give information about a topic you are passionate or care about. And in this case, it's about my starter from a Pokemon Professor.

Birch looking with a curious expression just watched on.

"According to every starter and their types they all have multiple weaknesses. But from my research, the only one has statistically one of the best type combinations. On top of being able to learn moves to counter with ice to make up for its last weakness." I say making the professor smirk a little already knowing where this was going.

The Pokemon hearing this started to listen in curiosity.

"When evolved has the weakness to grass. But resistance to fire, poison, rock and steel. With an immunity to electric, my perfect starter…" I say trailing off at the end, walking up to the table.

The other two Pokemon seeing my movements deflated a little. While the small amphibious, quadrupedal Pokemon in front of me had a wide smile, tail wagging in a blur.

"I choose you."

Moving my hand toward the Mudkip, I rub under his neck, near the gills on his cheek.

Confirming that this is their favourite spot, my heart melted at the joyful Pokemon.

"Mudd~" the Pokemon happily said leaning into my touch.

'I heard you liek Mudkip hehe.' I thought with a giddy feeling in my chest.

Mudkip the peak specimen that he is realised it was chosen and was over the moon. Feeling like it was on top of the world.

Plus it was getting neck rubs!

What more could it ask for?

Professor Birch looking on as I started to enjoy petting the adorable Pokemon, couldn't help but get a warm feeling seeing the scene.

"So you've already thought this through huh?" Professor Birch mused.

Getting up to the Mudkip, I put my notebook in my pockets as I try to pick him up with both hands. While a little heavy, he easily fit into my grasp as he stayed still with his tail moving side to side.

"Professor I have a few questions you'd be able to answer them please."

"Sure! Anything you unsure about?" He responds with a glint in his eyes.

Taking this opportunity, I get a determined look making the professor swallow some saliva.

"Are you able to show me Mudkip's moveset? Does he have any egg moves? What do levels indicate? How literally does he take commands? Does he have any habits I should note down? Is there any food he particularly favours? How often does he need to go outside? I'm not going on a journey in a couple of months."

I started to bombard the man with a whole wall of questions which unsurprisingly didn't faze the Professor.

Birch being used to interviews and processing information as a part of his job, just took the words with a laugh.

"You're very enthusiastic about this and I'm glad Mudkip has a good trainer. But please say those questions individually, Sunny." He responds making me nod sheepishly.

I was kind of acting like a nerd right now but did it really matter. This is the Pokemon world dammit let me geek out a little.

As long as my questions were answered then I'm satisfied.

Professor Birch returning the poor deflated Torchic and Treecko into their Pokeballs, led me forward with Mudkip's Pokeball in his hands.

Putting Mudkip down for now, he stayed right by my side as I pulled out my notebook

While following Birch I grabbed the five Pokeballs on the table and put them in my pocket. As well as put the Pokeball belt on.

Any amount of resources helps a lot.

As we made it to a huge screen with a desk which I assumed was his personal area. He pulled some sort of device from one of the cupboards.

"Sunny, this is what we call a Pokédex. It's an encyclopedia for Pokemon while including notes on every documented Pokemon by professors around the world.

We will be using this today to answer a few questions! You still don't "own" Mudkip yet so I can see his statistics."

Professor Birch taking a Pokeball, held it up to the Pokédex as some sort of scan was occurring. Looking on in interest it only took a little bit until I've gotten my answer.

"Mudkip is currently level 10 and has the ability Torrent. His best quality is his physical strength with everything else being all-around balanced.

He currently knows [Growl], [Tackle], [Mud-Slap] and [Water Gun]. With his egg moves being [Refresh], [Mirror Coat] and [Barrier]."

I Quickly wrote all of this down as I don't have a Pokédex of my own to double-check.

<|==Mudkip Notes==|>

Pokemon: Mudkip

Type: Water

Ability: Torrent

Nature: Serious

Moves: [Growl], [Tackle], [Mud-Slap], [Water Gun], [Refresh], [Mirror Coat], [Barrier].

Important Notes: Takes commands very literally. So if you don't specify how strong his attack should be, he'll use 100% power every time. Also takes some commands literally like if you tell him to use a move, he'll just use it wherever he's facing unless specified. Overall a good boy

<|==Mudkip Notes==|>

Taking a few minutes I was finally satisfied with all the notes I was able to write down. While seemingly excessive, throughout my journey, this will make my life easier.

Professor Birch went out of his way to answer a few more questions including what some egg moves did, which made the trip feel very successful.

<|==General Notes==|>

Levels are a combination of overall health, physical strength and stamina.

Special Defence and Special Attack can be attributed to mostly stamina and a little bit of physical strength and good overall health.

Attack and Defence is mostly physical strength with a little stamina and good overall health.

Hp is Overall Health and a mix of stamina and strength.

Refresh: Removes all negative statuses such as poison, burns and being paralyzed.

Barrier: Improves physical defence.

Doing full scans of my Pokemon to see level, ability, moves and health checkups costs 25₱ at Poke Center.

While healing at the Pokemon Center is always 2₱ per Pokemon. The exception is if you're participating in a league in which healing is free.

<|==General Notes==|>

"Thank you so much, Professor! Can you quickly release Mudkip so I can catch him in my own Pokeball?" I say getting a quick nod.

"A bit unusual, but not a bad idea." Birch comments, pressing some buttons before returning Mudkip to his Pokeball. Soon after he tapped the ball again leaving an orange beam showing Mudkip's release.

Pulling out a Premier Ball I couldn't be happier.

"Mudkip we will become the next champion of Kanto," I whisper to which Mudkip nods exaggeratedly.

Laughing at this I tap his nose with the ball.

*Zzt…*

*Ding!*

The ding signalling the successful capture, I sent him back out to walk beside me.

"Kipp!" He cutely growls out, making me squeal in my mind.

'This little guy is my Pokemon…'

"Hey Professor, I'm wondering if you met someone called Ash Ketchum?" I ask making his eyes widen in surprise.

"Yes, I have! Is he a friend of yours?" Professor Birch said pleasantly surprised.

"Ash and one of my new trainers, May, met about six months ago. Deciding to travel with each other. May even had the choice to choose this Mudkip over here but stuck with Torchic!"

He happily says helping me remember some moments in the anime. With the typical team rocket experience, Professor Birch had Mudkip use [Water Gun] three Poochyena without any effort.

Not bad initial feats for a starter Pokemon. While May's Torchic struggled to beat a Wurmple.

This reinforces my choice of Mudkip even more so.

"Thanks a lot, Professor, hopefully, our paths cross sometime."

"Mudkip!" The mudfish Pokemon chipped in.

With a little wave, I made my way out of the room with my new partner and met up with my father.

*Creak*

"Sunny is that your new starter?" So asked satisfied with how tame Mudkip seemed. Hearing this I just happily nodded with a giddy smile plastered on my face.

"Mudkip huh, a very logical choice," Joshua comments.

Now on the SUV and on the way back to the airport, the fin on the top of Mudkip's head started to twitch a lot.

'Is it going to rain?' I thought seeing this.

From what some people online said Mudkip's fin would twitch showing some signs. But my Mudkip's fin is bending a little too much.

"Hey, Joshua why is Mudkip's top fin bending so much," I asked a little concerned. Sealing my mudfish into a small hug he wagged his tail while melting into my embrace.

Joshua looking back saw the phenomenon and frowned.

"There must be some kind of horrible storm brewing up to cause that. His fin shouldn't move that much from what I've seen from professor's notes on sensing the weather." He responds.

Taking my notebook I put it into a compartment to keep it dry and right on time, it started to rain a little too heavily. Thunder started to strike all over the area as it was currently pouring.

It was like transitioning

Mudkip who was on my lap was shivering and rubbing his face into my chest.

What could cause something like this? It's clearly not a simple storm from what I'm seeing. Feeling completely soaked I just dealt with it as it wouldn't take longer for us to arrive.

'Anything that happens in the anime… Wait don't Kyogre and Groudon got awakened?' I thought trying to piece things together.

In the Pokemon Advanced Series, the conflict between team Magma and Aqua was so boring I skipped over it on the rewatch. But the scene of Pikachu being possessed by the blue stone still lingered in my head.

'It shouldn't last for the rest of the day.'

Sighing in relief my boy g-man Lance should have that covered.

I'm not strong enough to participate in world-ending sh*t with legendary Pokemon, maybe until the end of my first league?

That's just dreaming though.

I doubt I have plot armour to save me from legendary wrath if my Mudkip fought it. Or even as a Swampert my boy would get ragdolled I'm sorry.

"If it doesn't bother you can I ask what you're writing down?" A voice asks to my right.

Turning to my side I see Joshua, who was pretty soaked due to the rain looking at my notebook in interest.

Mudkip who was next to me taking a small nap, was curled up and rubbing his gills on my wet pants. Quite the interesting feeling but I don't really mind this behavior.

"Yeah it's fine, I'm just filling some stuff out. Planning my team and all." I respond getting an impressed look from the guy.

Currently, we were under a roof in some random Pokemon Center regaining ourselves due to the downpour. Not how I planned getting my starter but there's nothing to complain about as the trip was successful.

"Was Mudkip your first choice when considering his type chart advantage?"

Hearing this answer I chuckled a little.

The fighting type slot was unfortunately taken after some not so careful consideration.

"Nope!"

Also MC is like a mix of Sawyer (Pokemon) and Minato (Naruto) personality wise. Minato is gentle in nature but he's a kage for a reason
