The Influence itself had a very straightforward explanation, but he didn't want to give any care to it, believing that he would never use it. It's going to be his choice to use an Influence in the end. It is really frustrating to have a voice in your head, and the story will be about Spheris journey breaking free and finally retaliating. Could be torture to watch the process, but I bet that would make the result much more satisfying. Thanks for the review!

Really appreciate your engaging comment. However, I did try to make it clear that Spheris is a survivalist when in the normal world, the towns where he doesn't have to deal with magic. As for things concerning the world of magic, Spheris is very uninformed. Most of his survival skills involve escaping danger unharmed, not necessarily avoiding it. About the scavengers, he deemed it rational to seek help and advice from people who had lived in the world that he was just arriving into. The whole idea is for Spheris to realize that his survival tactics in the real world doesn't exactly play as well inside the Abyss. And I also don't want to spoil anything but he's growing slowly and learning fast. And he is playing dumb, or perhaps just being silent.
