Chương 34: Unknown

The plan had been set. Ava and Noah went to the shop to buy a few TVs, cables, and speakers to finally being to spy on Matt. They were very determined to put an end to all of this. As they were purchasing their equipment a little boy walked up to them and tugged at Ava's coat.

"Excuse me?" a squeaky voice spoke.

Ava turned around to the presence of a small boy about Lucas' age.

"Hey."

"Why hasn't Lucas been coming to school or to play with me?" he asked.

"Ah, you must be Lucas' friend. Well, Lucas has been feeling very sick lately, so he had to stay at home with his Dad," Ava lied.

"But I saw him get into a black van with some men. Is he going to the hospital?" he questioned.

Ava looked at Noah with wide eyes. Noah pulled out his phone and checked the security cameras. Matt was still at home, which could only mean that he hired someone to take Lucas somewhere. He signalled Ava that they needed to leave immediately, so she paid for the equipment, and they rushed to the abandoned house which had now become their base.

When they reached there, they quickly set the TVs up in the room and connected them to the security cameras. Ava had previously cleaned up the room and made some advancements to it, placing a large table with a few computers for their work. They looked at the cameras and viewed through them until they found Matt. There were a few people dressed in black talking to Matt.

"Turn up the volume, we need to hear what they are saying," Ava ordered.

Noah turned up the volume, and they began to listen to what they were talking about.

"Do you still have him?" Matt asked sternly.

"Yes sir. He is asking to go back, but he knows too much," a lady's voice spoke.

"What about the rest?" Matt aggressively questioned.

"They are currently being tested to see if they would make a worthy subject," a man's voice answered.

"Okay. Make sure no-one goes in. We need this place kept a secret, or else everything could be ruined," Matt finally spoke.

After the conversation, the four people left the backyard and made their way out. Matt looked at him to see if anyone was around and then left.

"We have to know where they are going," Ava rapidly said.

"Right ahead of you. I figured we needed to know where he was going sometimes, so I put small cameras on every one of his coats so we can know his whereabouts," Noah explained.

Ava looked at Noah dumbfounded.

"You watch too many detective movies," Ava mocked.

"But hey, it finally serves a purpose."

Ava shook her head and changed the camera's view to the one on Matt's coat. They could see him walking towards a van with the same people.

"Have you noticed that they spoke about more than one person?" Ava said, still focused on the screen before her.

"Yeah. It seems like it's not just Lucas they have."

Matt entered a van and all they could see were a group of people, but the only thing visible were their eyes. When they saw that the van finally stopped, Matt and the rest jumped out. It was a very secluded area, somewhere Ava and Noah had never seen before but there was something familiar to Ava, but she couldn't pinpoint it. Matt only observed the surrounding but never went in.

It was an abandoned castle-like building but it seemed to have many operations going on in it. A glowing part at the corner of the building seemed to glow like Ava's amulet.

"Noah, do you see that at the corner?" Ava asked.

"Yes. Hold on, let me zoom in."

As Noah zoomed in, they could see many people surrounding that area, but they couldn't work out what they were doing. Suddenly Matt turned around and entered the van, soon heading home. Noah turned off the TV and sat on the chair behind him.

"Looks like this is bigger than we thought," Noah stated.

"Yes, but we are smarter than them and better than them. Soon we'll be training me to get all my powers, and we can defeat them."

"You know we need more than one person in this. It can't be just the two of us. That would be a suicide mission," Noah pointed out.

"I know, I have some people in mind. But for now, we have to be sure of what they are doing."

Noah nodded and looked at his crutches. "I've got a doctor's appointment today. I might be finally getting these crutches off, which means we can start practising to control your powers by Friday after school."

"Okay, let's go."

They took a bus to the hospital and waited for their turn. While Noah was getting himself checked, Ava called her mom, but she wasn't answering her phone. Ava hadn't seen her mother in days, and she was starting to get worried about her. After a few unanswered calls, she decided she would go home and see whether she could find something that will give her a clue as to where her mom is.

After a while, Noah walked up to her and put his arms out.

"No more crutches," he exclaimed.

"Great. But I have to go home and check for some things. You should go to visit Aiden; he's been worried about you," Ava stated as she got up, readying herself to leave.

"Okay, text me when you're done with your stuff."

Ava nodded and ran towards her home. She opened the door and rushed upstairs to her mom's room. She looked through all the drawers and cabinets until she found a small book. Ava sat down on the bed and looked through it. The book contained a few locations and names. Including hers and Lucas'. Ava looked at them but thought nothing of it, yet she still kept it in her bag. She goes back to their base and sits down on the new couch while reading through the book. There she found a lot of information that she didn't even know where mother knew.
