Chương 16: Criteria

The world was always going to feel like a new world to Ezekiel, he couldn't just get used to it even though he accepted the fact that magic was real and he was mastering it anyway .

He couldn't talk to his grandmother after that nor his grandfather, he just left them standing there in confusion while his mind was filled with a lot of plans that he needed to perform to get his life back .

'There are a lot of people that have supremacy signs , and they are among us, they managed to pass the scanning before getting into school and no one suspected their magic powers therefore they lived peacefully with their families ' Ezekiel thought once he got into his class.

He always thought that the people around him were just normal like everyone else but now that he knew about the others he started to look at them in a different way .

'They must be hiding it really well ' He thought .

For the first time, he spent some time looking at his classmates' faces and looked at them carefully to investigate some signs that lead him to the right one of them .

The boy who got caught by the authorities was just a normal kid too .

'If they are aware of their powers, it means that they are doing the exact thing as me, they are suppressing their powers …they must be, otherwise, I would have known this ages ago '

Ezekiel spent the whole day looking at all of his classmates but he couldn't identify anyone with the same abilities as his .

At twilight he got back to his grandparent's house, he was acting just like usual, very cold and distant from them, his plans never involved them therefore he just kept them far from him emotionally .

" You are here, Ezekiel? " It was the voice of his grandfather .

He was having a wide smile on his wrinkled face and it felt like he was waiting for him .

Edward was waiting for him in the living room, sitting on the couch and reading something that looked like a letter or an invitation .

Ezekiel didn't even smile back at him, he just looked at him seriously expecting something not usual , then said :" Did something happen ? "

Edward pointed at him to sit next to him on the couch while he put what he was reading on the table in front of him, then said :" Sit here, Ezekiel, we have something to discuss "

" Something ? " Ezekiel said as he headed next to him to sit just like he wanted .

Edward pointed at the piece of paper that he was reading and then said:" Ezekiel Cooper, your school is saying that you have great results in both science and magic; this is a letter from your school ….there is something that I need to say here "

Ezekiel was puzzled , he didn't know what was the reason for his school to send a letter to his house, yet he tried to not look very confused in front of his grandfather, after all his face didn't look scared or stressed , he looked cheerful .

" This is a top-secret, they only revealed it to me today, you have been watched all these past years "

Edward couldn't contain his smile as he said that , however, Ezekiel looked at him then said impatiently: " You are saying it as if it is a good thing , why ? "

Edward patted his arm and then said:" Apparently , they were suspecting that you have supremacy signs all these past years because you were one of the tops in that in the country"

" Why are you happy ? " Ezekiel said .

" Well, they have some criteria apparently that no one knew about, the fact that you were on top of your class in both science and magic removed all suspicions around you , they think that people who master only magic have supremacy signs" His grandfather clarified .

Ezekiel stayed silent for a few seconds then said with a serious look on his face :" This is ridiculous, I don't buy it "

Edward was stunned by his answer , he didn't know what Ezekiel meant by those words , he should have been happy with it and not act this way .

Edward said to him :" Why are you saying this ? "

Ezekiel took the letter that was on the table and started reading it .

The letter was an official letter from his school, it had all the explanation that he was out of suspicion because he mastered both science and magic .

Ezekiel threw it away then said :" No …no …no …this is not happening "

Ezekiel knew something his grandfather didn't , the fact that he met a man who knew his identity , and that the man looked more like an authority .

" What are you saying Ezekiel ? You are making me very ….anxious " Edward said .

But even at a time like that, Ezekiel just stayed where he was silent, he didn't even show that he was panicking inside of him .

" This is a scum, this is not the truth , this is ridiculous, I think, they think that we are stupid somehow , do you believe that they would separate a person with a supremacy sign from normal people with a stupid useless criteria like that …this is not true " Ezekiel said very calmly .

" Why are you saying this Ezekiel, you are scaring me" Edward said with a cracked voice .

However, Ezekiel stood on his feet then said:" Put it all on them, do you understand ? Put it all on them "

Edward followed him right away , he stood next to him with a scared expression then said :" What do you mean ? Who are you talking about ? "

Ezekiel took his hand then said :" You are my grandfather , you don't know anything about me , my parents do, they threw me here to save themselves, put it all on them so that you wouldn't be punished, they kill all those who hide kids with supremacy , just pretend that you don't know anything, okay ? "

Edward was confused, he was still processing what Ezekiel to him still when his grandmother entered the room .
