No I get that, but couldn't he dodge the Chains? If he couldn't, how did Shirou do it? Just seems bizarre to me. Nasu did try to explain by saying Gil was holding back, but Gil's AGI is several times higher than Shirou. He should've been able to react to the attack.
Additionally, I strongly believe that Shirou had plot armor since the [Chain of Heaven] was preventing Berserker from attacking at literal point-blank range.

Basically it gives annual amount of AP based on the number of Perks × the number of Branches. If he puts the effort in, he can get Perks for less, if he doesn't it will be at full price. There's also a Heat Meter which is based on Rebel Inc Inflation System that limit the amount he could purchase even if he has the AP for it, which is mitigated by another Branch that will be explored in the future. Perks are also divided into 2 categories: Perks and Upgrades for the previous Perk. It does get complicated, but it's not the entire story. You can skip these chaps if it's too confusing, but I'd like the System and Magic System to be explored more thoroughly.
