章節 2: CHAPTER 2: SHADOW ARSENAL SYSTEM

BLINK, BLINK.

"Aaah… my head!"

Drake groggily opened his eyes, sitting upright with a wince.

"What's happening? Why does my body hurt so bad—like I got run over by a truck?" The irony wasn't lost on him. "Am I alive, or am I dead?"

He looked around, his breath catching in wonder. He was in a forest unlike anything he'd ever seen—or dreamed of, even in his most vivid manga fantasies.

Ancient trees soared skyward, their massive trunks vanishing into a canopy so high it looked like they stitched the sky together. At the base of these towering giants, clusters of glowing gems shimmered softly—sapphire blues, fiery crimsons, and deep emeralds pulsing with gentle light.

The air was thick with enchantment. Birds with gem-like feathers sang melodious tunes, and the breeze carried the sweet, heady scent of blooming flowers and golden pollen, wrapping around him like a spell.

For a moment, Drake just sat there, overwhelmed. This was it—the second chance he'd desperately wished for in his final moments. The chance to become someone worth remembering.

"This place..." he whispered, struggling to his feet. "It's beautiful."

DING!

[SHADOW ARSENAL SYSTEM]

*Reincarnation of soul complete!*

*System loading…*

*Welcome to Celestial Woods, Drake Lorenzo.*

A glowing translucent screen appeared before him, suspended in the air.

Drake stared at the interface, a mix of excitement and disbelief washing over him. "I actually did it. I really got reincarnated." He touched his chest where the truck had hit him—nothing. Just smooth skin and a steady heartbeat. "My old life is gone, but... maybe that's not entirely a bad thing."

He thought about that woman in the coffee shop, how she'd seen something in him that no one else had. *Names have power,* she'd said. *The kind that belongs to someone who'd risk everything to save a stranger.*

"Well, I did risk everything," he murmured to himself. "And now I'm here. Time to see what this Shadow Arsenal System is all about."

"Show me my stats," Drake commanded.

DING!

The system shifted, revealing his status board.

Drake's eyes widened as he scanned the numbers. "These stats... they're incredible." A smile tugged at his lips. "Maybe I actually can become someone important here. Someone who matters."

He flexed his hands, feeling the power coursing through him. It was intoxicating—like drinking liquid confidence.

"Let me test this out," he said, clenching his fingers into a fist. "If I'm going to make something of this second chance, I need to know what I'm capable of."

He looked at the towering tree beside him. "Agility test, I guess."

WHOOOSH! THUD!

With swift, fluid motion, Drake performed a perfect backflip—something his old body never could have managed.

"That was..." He paused, catching his breath. Not from exertion, but from amazement. "I wasn't able to do anything like this before. But now?"

He dashed toward the ancient tree, kicking up dust in his wake. As he neared the base, he launched himself up, using his momentum to sprint several steps up the trunk before grabbing onto a thick branch. With powerful, graceful movements, he climbed higher, swinging from branch to branch like he'd been doing it his whole life.

Before he knew it, he was perched at the top of the tree, wind brushing against his face and the entire world spread out below him.

"I made it," Drake said quietly, a genuine smile spreading across his face. For the first time in years, he felt... capable. Strong. Like maybe he could actually protect people instead of just being the one who needed protecting.

From his high vantage point, he spotted a massive kingdom in the distance, about a mile away.

It was a grand realm enclosed by towering white stone walls, each etched with glowing gems that pulsed with protective energy. The buildings inside rose elegantly, with golden, green, red, and white rooftops glinting under the sun. At the far end of the kingdom, perched atop a majestic hill, stood a magnificent castle. Its spires pierced the clouds, and flags bearing a silver phoenix on a navy blue background fluttered proudly in the wind.

The sight was breathtaking—like something out of the stories he'd always escaped into.

Drake climbed back down the tree, landing gracefully with a soft thud.

"That kingdom," he said thoughtfully. "I wonder if that's where I'm supposed to go. Where I might find..." He trailed off, thinking about connection, about belonging, about maybe finding someone who could understand him the way that woman in the coffee shop seemed to.

"System, what is that kingdom I just saw? Am I supposed to head there next?" Drake asked.

*Processing info…*

*You are currently in the Celestial Woods of the Kingdom of Sidonia.*

*Yes, your next destination is the Kingdom of Sidonia. Once there, you will receive your first mission.*

"Kingdom of Sidonia," Drake repeated, testing the name on his tongue. "Sounds like a place where adventures begin."

TAK! TOK! TAK! TOK!

His footsteps echoed through the stillness as he made his way toward the kingdom, but his mind was racing with questions.

"My class is Shadow Gunslinger, and I'm level one. I should probably understand what that means before I walk into a populated area with weapons I don't know how to use properly."

"System," he called out as he walked. "Can you explain what a Shadow Gunslinger is, and what my abilities actually do?"

DING!

Drake absorbed the information with his enhanced intelligence, but one thing stood out immediately. "These abilities are powerful, but they're expensive. I can't just spam them mindlessly—I'll need to be strategic."

He nodded to himself, appreciating the balance. "The system isn't going to let me become overpowered without earning it. I'll have to actually think and plan." The challenge excited him more than it frustrated him.

"What about my equipment? I should check my inventory."

"System, show me my inventory."

"Twin Pistols of Midnight Howl," Drake said, testing how the name felt. "Let me see them."

WSSSSH!

He reached into the air instinctively, and the twin guns materialized into his hands with a flicker of dark energy.

The pistols appeared in a swirl of dark mist, their obsidian-black frames radiating with faint violet light. A cold aura surrounded him as the weapons hummed with shadow energy, dark smoke coiling lazily from the barrels. The grips molded to his hands like they'd been crafted specifically for him.

WSSSSH… WHOOOM!

A soft, ghostly howl echoed through the air. Shadows from the vegetation around him bent subtly toward him, and the temperature dropped just enough to raise goosebumps. In that moment, Drake didn't just hold the pistols—he wielded the shadows themselves.

"They're beautiful," he said quietly, turning them over in his hands. "And they feel... right. Like they belong with me."

He let them vanish back into his inventory with a thought, then continued walking toward the kingdom.

"This is it," he murmured to himself. "My chance to be someone who matters. To find my place in this world." He thought again of the woman's words: *You have a kind face—the kind that belongs to someone who'd risk everything to save a stranger.*

"I proved her right once," he said, his steps growing more confident. "Time to see if I can do it again."

Just then—

SSSSSH! SSSSH!

A rustling sound came from the bushes nearby. Leaves twitched. A twig snapped.

Drake stopped, every muscle tensing. His hand moved instinctively toward where his pistols would appear. "Hello? Who's there?"

GRRAAH! GRRR! GRAAH!

GRRRR! GRRRR!

Suddenly, five wolves burst out of the underbrush, their eyes glowing with predatory hunger.

Drake's heart pounded, but this time it wasn't from fear alone. It was anticipation.

Time to see what a Shadow Gunslinger could really do.
