Lu Xun cherishes the answer of time

What does the pen name Lu Xun mean? There had always been two explanations for the pen name "Lu Xun". One explanation was that "Lu" was the surname of Lu Xun's mother, and the "Lu Town" often mentioned in his novels was his mother's hometown."Xun" was his nickname, so the word "Xun Ge Er" also appeared in his novels. The other explanation was that Xu Shoushang, the teacher's close friend, said that he had personally asked Mr. Lu Xun. The teacher smiled and said,"It means to take the meaning of being stupid and fast." This is your humble speech. These two explanations were both literal explanations and were also in line with Lu Xun's life. But recently, someone had discovered a third explanation. It is believed that the word "Xun" means wolf in ancient times. The source of this poem is found in Er Ya: "The wolf who is absolutely powerful is called Xun." According to this annotation, Lu Xun referred to a brave and powerful son of a wolf. The historian Hou Wailu said this. He said that Lu Xun was a rebel of feudal society. His masterpiece, Diary of a Madman, attacked the "cannibalistic" system of feudal society. He used these two words to express his willingness to call himself a "wolf" and completely break away from the feudal social system. It was said that Hou Wailu had once mentioned this explanation to Lu Xun's wife, Xu Guangping. Xu Guangping repeatedly thanked him and expressed his approval. In May 1918, Lu Xun published the first vernacular novel in the history of modern Chinese literature, Diary of a Madman, in the fourth volume of New Youth. He used the pen name Lu Xun for the first time. Before Lu Xun, he had also used Xun Xing's pen name. Because of a rule in New Youth magazine that did not allow the use of other names, which meant that the signature had to be like a real name, he used Lu as his surname and Lu Xun as his pen name. Lu Xun used more than 140 pen names in his life, and Lu Xun was famous all over the world under his pen name. Looking at the word "Xun" again, other than the surprise of being stupid and fast, there was also a deeper meaning. According to "Er Ya-Shi Shou" said: Female wolf, son? Strong and fast. When you are excited, you can talk about animal nature from dogs and water nature from water. In the study of words, it means that the breast is pregnant and becomes intense. Now, Lu and Xun were combined. Lu was taken from his mother's surname, and Xun meant wolf son in ancient times. Therefore, Lu Xun could be understood as a powerful son of a female wolf. There was a problem here. Why did he compare himself to the son of a female wolf? Mr. Hou Wailu had explained this problem in his book, The Pursuit of Tenacity. He said that there was a logical law in the modern enlightenment movement, which was to first modify the proposition of the old era and then deny the proposition of the old era. Using Lu Xun as a pen name was in line with this logical law. Mencius once said: Without a father and a king, one is a beast. Lu Xun took his mother as his surname and named himself an animal. This was a negation of the old era on the basis of acknowledging the natural and justified proposition. Since people without fathers and kings were animals, then I was a bird. For example, Xu Guangping's nickname was Xu Xia, and Lu Xun simply took Xu Xia as his pen name.
