Une révolte inattendue éclate. Mais Gin, au bord du gouffre, déclenche un dernier protocole : une bombe nucléaire expérimentale sur le point d’anéantir leur ville d’origine. La dernière bataille se joue alors entre Gin et son ancien ami Ryuko, mentor de l’équipe, dans un duel aussi physique qu’émotionnel, entre regrets du passé et espoirs pour l’avenir. Ashen, enfermé dans une capsule, est sauvé de justesse, tandis que Gin, touché par la voix de son fils endormi dans une autre capsule, fait le choix ultime. Il se sacrifie pour désactiver la bombe, sauvant la ville, ses ennemis… et son propre honneur.
