Chapter 73: Addition

Wreck's POV

Time has passed since the incidents in the Kingdom of Zione happened. Everyone in the Mudland Union has been extremely busy, and there is a reason why.

Due to our involvement in the Kingdom of Zione, our country has been popular throughout the land.

"Hey man, have you heard about the Mudland Union?"

"Yes, but I am not familiar. Would you mind telling me about that?"

"Of course! That land is amazing. They say that if you go there you immediately get a job and be rich!"

"No way that is true. You must be lying!"

"I am telling you the truth! Even the Kingdom of Zione approves them! They are allies."

"Zione? Then it must be true! I better go there and start a business!"

"Just a business? I am going to go there with my family and move there permanently!"

"That sounds a great idea! I might follow your plans!!"

"Let us go now!"

Yes. Immigration. The conversation earlier is what I commonly hear from the new travelers finding opportunities here. Aside from the travelers and businessmen, most of the immigrants here are also from small villages and refugees from other lands. So basically, we have people from rich countries, entrepreneurs, villagers, and refugees with lots of variations of races. Before the news broke out, we had a population of over 11,000 residents. With the new additions, our total population has now reached more than 50,000 residents!!! That is a lot of new people to handle.

And with more people come with more work. This is by far the busiest time of my life including the previous one! The good thing here is that I am not alone with all of the paper works and documents. Rael has been helping me for months and the new addition, Chief Executive Mello Lasterson. I am so glad about hiring Mello. He has been incredibly useful in our budding country. His position, Chief Executive, is basically the same as being a minister at the Kingdom of Zione he easily adjusted in his new working environment.

One problem that I had with the new immigrants in the housing. I really do not have a problem with having them stay at Crimson Town because Laur personally approved it but our town has limitations. I knew that the town could not accommodate an additional 39,000 more people. I was about to reject them until the heads of the union which is now officially called "The Assembly" suggested.

"We will take them, Chairman," Mayor Sais said.

"What?"

"He said we will take new residents to Wreck!" Gald added.

Oh?! The other towns are also willing to accept new residents?

"Wait, are you sure? Each of your towns has one race only. Are you sure about your decision?"

"Of course chairman. The rest of the assembly has talked about it already. we do not want you and Madame Laur to handle all of the burdens of the nation. Besides, we do not want to fall behind the advancements of the Crimson Town. And we believe that accepting new residents with different races is a step to the next direction." Tran explained.

Wow. Never thought they are willing for a change. This is great then!

"Cool! Then we should distribute the new residents equally."

And after that meeting, each of the towns in the union is now officially called cities with the capital officially called "Crimson City".

With new members of our family, a lot of jobs are needed to accommodate all of them. Farming, carpentry, and blacksmithing are some of the hottest jobs. Many private establishments also have opened which is what I have expected. With new private businesses, the assembly quickly passed a bill for Business Tax which I personally suggested and wrote. Since it is still new, I imposed the rule that the business must pay a monthly tax of 3% of their income. For those businesses not doing well or the businesses that have a monthly income of less than 1 gold, they have a monthly tax of 5 silver. It might seem like it is way too little but I took into consideration the situations. Most of these businessmen are all from different lands in hopes of finding an opportunity. I did not want all of them to go broke. This bill applies to all cities in the Union. After the writing and the meetings with the assembly, the bill officially became law. The official name is "The Business Tax Law".

The most popular job in the union by far was the Military. As we all know, prior to these immigrants, there was also a group of immigrants that came here but not a lot has joined the army. I was kind of bothered by that because, after the events that unfolded at the Kingdom of Zione, I felt like our country is way too weak. I decided to resolve that problem. With the Help of the Union's Commander General and the Master of the City of Gaorus, Gald, we devised a plan to attract the new immigrants in joining the military.

"Do you have any ideas, Wreck?"

"Hmmmmm…. Gald, if you are a poor person what is the most important thing in life for you?"

"Easy, it would be my fighting abilities!!!!"

"No, not yourself!!! What I meant was to imagine yourself as a poor person. What do you need?"

'Probably some food, clothes, house, and money. Those are the basic needs right?!"

"Oh! Now I know what we should do!"

"Really? What is it?!"

"We should increase the benefits of the soldiers like adding their salary and providing some dormitories for them!"

"That is a wonderful idea Wreck! We should totally do that!"

After we brainstormed the idea, our bill then went on the same process as the Business Tax Law. With the approval from the Assembly, our bill is now officially a law. It is called "The New Military Union Law". The law includes the benefits for new applicants for the military such as 50 silvers per month for new recruits. The salary increases as your ranks increases. Not only that, but they are also provided with dormitories to stay and hazard pay if ever a soldier gets hurt.

And just like what Gald and I expected, the Military was the hottest job within the market.

(3 men talking on the streets of Crimson City)

"Have you heard about the news about the new military law?" man 1 asked

'Yes! And it sounds really good! I am so tempted in joining the army with those terms!" Man 2 replied.

"You are only tempted? Well, I will for sure apply right away with those conditions!" Man 3 declared.

"Really? Aren't you afraid? What if you suddenly get injured or killed in battle?" Man 1 asked again.

"Oh don't worry about that! That is where the hazard pay comes in. Besides, there is nothing to be afraid of! We are still getting trained and we have easy tasks such as hunting and scouting only! We aren't at war fool!!" Man 3 replied.

"Now that you said it, I will apply too! It really sounds good! Join us!!" Man 2 supported.

'Alright! Let us all together apply right away!!" Man 1 stated.

With some campaigns and endorsements, the Plan for the Military was extremely successful. The number of soldiers added to our army was mind-boggling. The Union Army has now reached over 20,000 soldiers!!! That is two-fifths of our population! Out 5 people, there are 2 members of the military! We did not expect this amount. Gald is extremely happy with the results of the plans.

20,000 men are a lot of soldiers to handle so after a long wait, we have finally implemented the Ranking System for our Military.

The Highest Rank is called Commander-in-Chief. That rank is held by yours truly, Chairman Wreck Crimson.

The next rank is the Commander General, which is the highest rank within the military since I am not part of the army itself. This rank is for Gald, the Master of the City of Gaorus. I believe he is well suited for this rank since aside from Laur and myself, he is the next most capable fighter within the union. He also has the charisma and the authority of a true leader.

After that, we have the rank of the Vice-Commander General. Tran is the one that owns that position. Tran, like Gald, also holds a seat in the Assembly since he is the Proxy Leader for the City of Rhine. Tran deserves this rank since his skills complement well with Gald. Unlike Gald, he is a strategic genius and he uses his brains over his brawns in battle.

Next is the Great General of the Mudland Union. These six individuals are the leaders of each city in the union. Each of them is stationed and assigned to one of the cities in the country. Their job is to protect the city they are assigned. They also have power over their military. The Six Great Generals are as follows: Kirth from the Crimson City, Poel from the Baugan City, Bren from the Norman City is the old members. The new great generals are as follows: Kaji from the Rhine City, Phinny from the Gaorus City, and Everett from the Hanel City.

Those are the high ranking members of the army. The Great generals are then ordered to assign their own generals and captains within their armies.

Now that the military talks are settled, we are about to face one of the most important events of the country.

It has been officially a year since the union.

It is time for the Union Festival.
