Chapter 27: 27. Tea With Vincent Pt. 2

"That's strange." I mull over, resting my weight on the back of the chair.

A young girl who looked about in her late teen years appears from the back of the store, where the small door had been. An elegant air hangs about her and in the way she carries over the tray of porcelain tea sets over to our table first.

"Thank you."

She bends over slightly, setting down the cups in front of Vincent and I. She makes an attempt to pour the tea for us, lifting the kettle delicately when Vincent makes abrupt sounds of disagreement. It immediately cuts her action short and she peers over to him.

"I'll do it. You don't need to worry."

Vincent takes hold of the handle of the kettle and his eyes follow Cynthia as she gives him a small bow. She heads behind him, to Maria's table. I watch the crystal-colored tea pour out of the snot and push away the thought in the back of my mind that my body might not agree with what I am going to eat.

"If you could not mention that again, that was really crude and unseemly of me to say."

Really?

"But I liked it." I assert, and shrug with one shoulder, "I mean I did hear something like that at your birthday ball and I didn't know Elian can be with omegas."

"You know Elian can be omegas. Why are you acting clueless? Is this another one of your tricks?"

"I don't understand what you are saying?"

Vincent lifts his eyebrow up to complete his 'i don't eat shit' look, defensively crossing his arms. I look down suddenly, staring at my tea as I spoke.

"I...kinda have amnesia." It suddenly feels as though the principal has caught me and now I'm under scrutiny.

He scrunches up his nose,

"What's that?"

"You know," I shrug again, "Losing my memories."

"Oh, dear. Those things exist?"

"Apparently, because it happened."

"That's quite perplexing. I have only seen it happen in books and uh, stories."

"Reality imitates fiction." I mumble and then take a sharp breath in. I don't provide a window for Vincent to reply to my mundane statement.

"Yeah, so you like Elian huh?" I abruptly blurt out in the need to create a diversion from the scrutiny. Vincent seems to have a similar tendency that my mother does as well, detection of bullshit from a good mile away.

"I suppose it was quite obvious. Since I am the maverick as termed by your dear Duchess Louisa. I heard she was quite yapping about me at the ball that I hosted?"

"Oh." I take a deep breath in and then breathe out, recalling that Louisa was there and she really did talk my ear out with her opinions, "Louisa."

"What she said was undeniable though." He crosses one leg over the other, "I do prefer Alphas. Vance and I, we almost grew up together with Elian. He was the only alpha around me besides Vance and honestly, I didn't know whether I was looking at him through admiration or whether it was romantic feelings."

"Then why didn't you go for Elian?"

"What a joke. You know Elian isn't like me and I knew it even before you came. I already gave up when I found out that he already bonded with that omega."

Vincent leans back at the chair, sliding one hand into the pocket of his cream pants. He had unbuttoned his coat and hung it behind him. Now class is only in a pale blue vest and a cream shirt that matched his pants.

"What do you mean? Bonded with that omega? Do you mean Adian?"

Vincent instead hums distractedly, peering out of the glass-paned windows that are just at his eye level. A few pedestrians walk past by the window, creating quick shadows. I can hear the decreased pattering of the rain and I slouch downward, taking a trembling careful sip of the steaming tea.

Cynthia does, in fact, make marvelous tea. It's quite subtle in taste, strong in aroma with the smallest thing of a lemon tinge hidden deep within its layers. I look up and find that Vincent is yet still staring outside, looking even more thoughtful now. His neck tapers in elegance, accentuated by his long hair high up in a ponytail, small strands of hair slowly breezed by winds from the opened windows.

He heaves in a deep breath, his chest barely rising, and looks over, locking his eyes with me. I inhale sharply as well as I feel a heavy air settle upon us.

"He is bonded— was, actually. I don't think I deserve to talk about that matter. He prefers it remains buried. All the better if you hear it from him."

I immediately roll my eyes as he finishes up, "And you're saying that knowing what Elian is like."

A soft laugh erupts from him and he directs it into his cup, which is held up near his face for a sip. It trembles and looks as though the tea would splash over but thankfully, it doesn't. The chair creaks under his shaking and he manages to successfully take a proper sip.

"Yes." His eyes are brimming with fondness and with yet another careful sip of the tea, "He doesn't talk quite a lot, doesn't he? He infuriates me so much."

A hum in reply to his remark and I turn my attention to the accompanying biscuits. It is the right amount of butteriness and crumbliness as I bite into one side. I dip it into my tea, acting as though I was minding my own matters.

Silence is the best way to make someone talk and Vincent seems to be an easy person to crack open. I have tried this on both Elian and Frank but they possess this great tenacity in keeping their walls up for no solid reason.

And Vincent's unwinding began,

"Elian may be older than the two of us, but we might as well have grown up together. Our fathers were...good acquaintances and they met up quite often back then, leaving the three of us alone to handle ourselves…"

Thwack!

"Ah!" The young boy winced in pain, bringing his arm over his head where it was hit.

The culprit was his own brother.

"Bugs should be smashed! They are not friend!" He yelled, more of a declaration and he looked just like the other. The juvenile rage is evident in his tone.

"But–" The boy, Vincent began to argue but his twin raised his hand again, this time more threateningly. Vincent immediately cowered in fear of his younger sibling, covering his head and tears brimming his wide eyes.

It was a pity, they used to murmur between each other, that one of the boys was born as a recessive alpha. But yet again, a blessing in disguise for their father who would never have to choose between his sons for an heir. It was fate itself that presented his heir before him.

Of course, it was two decades before the present time and the reigning nobles were only alphas. Even now and then, omegas are merely the other half, the companion that served themselves to the alphas, and rarely do they dominate the line of nobility.

Whack!!

The tears in Vincent's eyes plopped out of control in shock at the sight before him. For once, someone had raised a hand against his brother and he was only a kid who looked a little too tall for his age. His dark eyebrows were a stark contrast against his pale skin and the bridge of his eyebrows were all wrinkled. He looked as though he had been frowning for eternity.

Vance grabbed the throbbing side of his head which had just been punched by someone unknown and he turned to his back, meeting eyes with the newcomer. He gave him the most hostile glare a kid of six years could manage but the latter only stared back at him with unfazed blank eyes.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!" Yelling out a war cry from the top of his lungs, Vance lunged forward to the taller boy with his fist raised.

That was the first time the Welstone twins ever met the heir of the Earl of Marcoxius Drane and Vincent found that Elian, the newcomer beat the black and blue out of his tyrant brother.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
miyobiya miyobiya

hi guys!

I'm just taking this chance to tell you that if you don't see much emphasis on the pregnancy, it's on purpose because Adian is still quite much processing this fact! (He couldn't get prego before and he is still slightly in denial)

And also that Elian hasn't found out that.

(Honestly I just wanted to establish my characters first before they start bonkin.)

I assure you that the pregnancy arc is coming soon! and I hope you enjoyed today's chapter~
