Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Three months Later ---------------------

The Cullen's were on their way to Wyoming again because last week Stephen had called and informed Carlisle that he had indeed finished his schooling. Carlisle was in a car with Jasper and Alice, while Rose was in a van with Emmett. Alice was all happy and talking about how she and Stephen would be the best of friends and how she would take shopping and put him in some much better clothes. Jasper was telling her to calm down because he felt Stephen's emotions and how it would take him a while to get used to everything because he was timid. Alice started to pout when Jasper told her that, then it turned into a smile.

Carlisle looked into the center mirror, " Yeah, we got to make sure he is comfortable with us first, Alice. Even if he gets better with us, we must take it slowly."

Alice just crossed her arms and pouted while looking out of the window. Jasper smiled and started to play with her hair.

While they were about thirty minutes from his house Alice got a vision; when she was done, she looked worried and yelled at Carlisle to immediately get to his home.

Carlisle looked worried, " Why, what's wrong, Alice? What did you see." he said, yelling back.

Alice, worried, said, " Stephen is hurt."

-----------------------------------------------

"I figured I would die, just not this way," Stephen said as he spat some blood out of his mouth.

About an hour before the Cullen arrived, Stephen was packing some of the things he could pack without anyone's help when five men broke into his house, and he recognized them as locals of his town. Stephen knew people were afraid of him because of what happened to his family, but he never predicted that they would harm him. They came in with bats, and they beat him. His legs were broken, but when the first person swung, he tried to block his face with his hand, which broke his hand. They beat him for about 15 mins, then they left.

Stephen, after they left, tried to fix himself the best he could, but he was in and out of consciousness. He tried his best, but when he closed his eyes to die, his front door broke open, and he could see Carlisle run over to him.

"Stephen... Stephen, wake up, buddy, don't close your eyes" He turned to Alice, " Alice, go to our Vehicle and put the back, sit down, and take Jasper."

Jasper and this point were fighting the urge to run at Stephen, but Alice got in front of him and grabbed his arm, and told him to follow her. " Yes... Ma'am."

He looked at Rose and told her to tell Alice to take her and Jasper into the desert for a while. Rose left the house quickly at a human pace. He looked towards Emmett next, "Emmett, I need you on this one. Just help me stop the bleeding so we can get him into the car."

Emmett nodded

Stephen was in and out but getting a tad bit better still in pain, which Carlisle gave him something for it. They soon brought him into the back of the car when Stephen could speak a little.

Stephen's eyes were covered in blood, so he could not see, especially with it being nighttime.

"Carlisle... Carlisle?" he screamed.

Carlisle quickly said, " Yeah, buddy; I am here. I'll fix you."

Stephen was trying to say some words, but they were barely words. Carlisle could hear a few words.

" The hard drives, Painting, and the safe," Stephen said weakly

Carlisle nodded a little, " Emmett, Rose, in that house, go to his Workshop and grab all the hard drives but be careful with them, then there is a safe in the Living Room. I think that is the one he asked for and his family photo framed on the wall."

They both nodded and ran into the house.

Stephen spoke again, " And the black Crate in the workshop."

Carlisle replied, "Of course, buddy, anything." He yelled to Emmett about the crate, and after about five minutes, they loaded it into the van. Emmett didn't know how to take the hard drives out, so he just unplugged the computers and grabbed them. Once all of the items Stephen asked for were in the van, Alice and Jasper returned. Carlisle cleaned as much blood as he could off Stephen and told Alice to ride with him and Jasper with Rose and Emmett. Alice had medical knowledge to help Carlisle as he drove.

As they were leaving and got back onto the highway, his condition was improving, and he could speak better.

"Alice, reach into my pocket and grab my phone," Stephen asked

Alice reached into his pocket and grabbed his phone. It was no standard phone. It had no keypad but a glass screen phone. With Alice's help, Stephen turned on the phone, swiped to an icon, clicked on it, and swiped the screen to text that said " Protocol 66".

Alice had a confused expression, " What's protocol 66" she asked. Stephen smiled, "It's this"

Alice got a call from Rose asking about what that was, and Alice told her Stephen did it. She hung up the phone and saw Stephen tugging on her shirt. He clicked a button, and from the direction of his house, a massive explosion went off, and a vast cloud of fire rose in the air.

"Yeah, Stephen?"

"Stephen Tine is dead."

Stephen's comment took her and Carlisle by surprise. They looked at Stephen, and Alice started to pat his head. Carlisle gave her orders to make sure he would make it to the there house. Then Alice told him he could rest now that he would be okay.

"I'm gonna take a nap," he said quietly

Alice, while holding his hand, " Go ahead."

---------------------------------------------

Three weeks later

Since they reached Forks, Stephen had been in a coma from shock. They were still shocked he could last as long as he did without going into shock.

Stephen opened his eye and took a second to clear up, but he could hear people.

A familiar motherly tone, " Guys, he is waking up," she said

Carlisle rushed over to his side with Esme and put his arm around her, and soon everyone was there, even a girl he didn't know. Carlisle saw that he was looking at her," Stephen, this is Edythe. She is my daughter."

Edythe was staring at Stephen, and Stephen was worried. He thought to himself, 'Please don't tell me you can read minds'

Stephen could see a slight nod.

He thought to himself again, 'If you are reading my mind, please don't tell them I will. Just give me time.'

He saw Edythe give another nod.

"Nice to meet you, Edythe; my name is Step..." He then looked at Carlisle

"Hey, Carlisle, how much morphine did you give me? I think it hasn't worn off yet. I can't feel everything." He looked at Carlisle, who had a sad expression on his face.

When Stephen saw that look, he got worried and threw the blanket off him. He was missing his legs and his arm that got shattered.

"I tried my best to save what I could. Your legs and your left hand I could not save. I am sorry." Charlie had a saddened look.

Stephen sat there for a few, and tears were coming out of his eye; he wasn't crying all out, but tears flowed out of his sight, " Can y'all leave please, like outside for a few."

Esme put her hand on my shoulder and kissed my forehead, "Of course, sweetie, take your time."

They all shuffled outside; when Stephen knew they were out, he started crying. For about 20 minutes, he cried himself back to sleep for the rest of the day.

-----------------------

Three days later

While Stephen was still bedridden, he had Emmett set up his computers, so he had access to them. On one of the days when everyone was around him, as Carlisle was doing a check-up on Stephen, Emmett came up with the crate he had asked for from his house. Stephen got all giddy from it, " Thank you so much, Emmett."

They all looked at him weirdly. Esme was the first to ask, "What's in the box, Stephen?"

Stephen had Emmett open the box and put what was in it on his lap. Carlisle was surprised it was a hand prosthetic, it was nothing super high-tech, but it was not a normal one either. Carlisle looked at him, "When did you make that?" he asked.

Stephen put it on to his hand and connected a cord to it, and plugged it into his computer, " I made this when after I was attacked the first time after I was released from the hospital, I was doing my check-ups and my hand was not doing so well, so they told me if it keeps going the direction it was going they would have to amputate it, but my hand got better through a few months, so I never need it tell now."

They were all impressed by it. Stephen started to program it with his computer; he wanted a standard function to the best of his ability. Stephen's mood got better throughout the day. When he went back to sleep, he was awakened by Edythe, "Hey Stephen...." she poked him.

Stephen cleared his eye to adjust, "Yeah, Edythe?"

Edythe sat and looked at him, "How long have you known?"

Stephen was confused, but it clicked on what she meant, "Since, after my first attack, I knew they weren't normal, so I did some digging and found out about the paranormal world."

Edythe stared into his eye and read his mind. He was telling the truth, " So you knew the first time you met my family, didn't you?"

Stephen nodded, "Not at first, though. After some time hanging out with them, I was 100% sure."

Edythe looked angry, "Why didn't you tell them you knew? You could have avoided them or not accepted Carlisle's offer, why didn't you think?" she snarled.

She looked and Stephen for a while. He was trying to find the right words to say to her, then he looked back at her," Do you know what it's like to be lonely, Edythe." She nodded. "It leaves you empty and sad, I have been on my own for a few years, and I'll tell you, it's hard. I miss my parents and just being a kid again, not having to worry about life and its problem. When your father offered me that internship, I jumped on board, and it gave me a reason to want to live again, not to be lonely, a new start where people won't know me or my past." he paused

Edythe's expression changed to apologetic, " I am sorry, Stephen, I didn't think you had it that hard. I just thought you were alone by choice."

A tear came down his eye, " Ever since I met your family, I never knew what it was like to be loved again to have kindness directed to me. It made me happy, that's why I jumped to Carlisle's offer. I wanted a family again." he started to cry softly.

Edythe grabbed him and started to shush him and hold him tightly. She let go of him when he stopped, "But hey, you have to tell them. I won't tell them, but you have to. It's only right." he nodded, clearing the tears from his eye, "I'll do it tomorrow, can you be there to help me." he asked

She nodded, "Of course, I'll help you."

----------------------------------------

The next day Stephen had planned on how he would tell them how he knew they were vampires. He had Edythe call all of them to meet him.

Esme and Carlisle were worried and thought it was about his condition. The only two that were not worried were Edythe and Alice. He knew why Edythe wasn't worried, but he didn't know why Alice was not concerned.

Carlisle looked at him, "What's wrong, buddy are you okay?" he asked

"I am fine, Carlisle," he said

He looked at Edythe, then back to the rest of them. He told a deep breath, " I have something to tell you."
