Chapter 22: A world of capes and masks(6)

Harley swung her hammer at the CCTV display screen out of anger, "Damn that Bat! And that stupid Runt!" She cursed, "We were supposed to hold out longer!" Her hammer swings were wild barely avoiding purchase on her singular hostage, Hammer, who scoffed at her.

Hearing him Harley ground her teeth, as she backhanded Hammer, he ignored the pain and in a fit of laugh he spat out, "Sociopath."

"I am no sociopath! I am just Mr. J's wife," He said as she landed another hit on him.

"Whore not wife," He said much to her anger, as she lifted her hand to deliver another hit, the gizmo on the table buzzed, "This is Levi," It churned out as she picked it up, "Levi, my favorite shit head, what can I do for you?"

"None of the others are picking up our calls," Ignoring her insult he informed her, "These things aren't malfunctioning are they?" He asked with a bit of concern.

"Batman got to them, and some pint-sized kid too," She told them with a water cool voice only to be screeched at, "BATMAN!? AND YOU DIDN'T TELL US!?"

"Calm down boys, you are already fucked, so I didn't," She pulled out a revolver from her waist and uncoiled the revolving magazine as she cut the call.

Her hands started to slot in the bullets. She was going to need them before the day was done.

Oh, how beautiful her baby was, these tugs just didn't understand the value of it, they preferred those bulky assault rifles and SMGs. Fools by the time they fire a shot Batman would have three hands planted in their three, sorry, two holes.

They were all fools, especially those SMG users, their tiny 9mm wouldn't even scratch his suit. Those rifles could do a lot more than scratch though, so they weren't all fools. And with the baby in her hands, the .50 Cal that this thing was chambered in, she was going to make a bat skewer with it.

Loaded as she spun around her eyes caught on an incredibly smug hammer, she wanted to shoot him then and there. But no killing, remember Harley he is more useful to you dead than alive. And that bastard knew it too. So he was laughing in her face. She pondered bashing the fucker unconscious but she wasn't going to be dragging an unconscious body around, that thing weighed like eighty kilos.

She glanced at the clock, there were still fifteen minutes left, after which she could flee. But the Bat was here, so either she puts a hole in his head or she ends up in Arkham.

Where to go? She needs to distract him and keep him from joining Joker's fight. Holding up here with a gun to Hammer's head was her best bet.

"BATMAN!? AND YOU DIDN'T TELL US!?" The goon outside shouted loud enough for us to hear through the walls, a good thing from the looks of utter relief on the children.

Crazy how one man can inspire such contrasting emotions.

I patted my dress down checking my tools, the taser and the paper cutter were secured in my stocking's rubber strap.

"Mira!" Dina stuck herself to me, "We are going to be safe," She is becoming really clingy. Should I have let her get shot? Probably. Well, it would have been a waste of an investment.

Matthew and the gang around him looked happy too.

"Fuck! What do we do?"

"Stick to the plan and gather anyone still conscious."

So they were going to leave? Then we would be safe—my train of thought was cut off by Dina shaking me, "Mira we must go out and help," She said barely keeping her voice down.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing, "What? You want to go out? There are gunmen out there, Batman or not, he can't stop a bullet from half the school away."

Dina looked sheepishly at me, "But Mira, we can not leave our friends out," What friends? Last I checked I was your damn best friend who hung out with you ten hours a day, seven days a week, you don't have any friends other than me and the three meat bags.

She knew she was never going to convince me, so she switched targets, "Mathew, Prince..." No, no, this was not happening. I clasped her mouth in my hands closing it shut.

"What's up?" He asked as he saw Dina trying to wrestle out of my control. Dina stopped struggling only to bite my hands and bolt out, bitch!

"Prince, we should get out," She didn't even waste a breath. The look I was giving her probably equated to a death glare. But she ignored it.

At least his reaction was a sensible one, "What?" Entirely baffled, his eyes were wide as he asked, "In front of gunmen?"

"They have left, Batman is here," She replied.

"And do what?"

"Save our friends."

"That's an incredibly bad idea," I retorted.

"But we can't leave our friends to die right?" She made puppy eyes at him, wait, this bitch trying to manipulate him? Seriously? The fuck?

Prince was a logical boy, he surely won't—"Let's do it," ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Calm down Heylel, they are so many others here, they won't risk it, I just have to point it out to them, "We can't risk everyone's safety guys come on—"

"Let's do it!" Mathey cheered from the side, no, fuck off.

"Yeah, we gonna save our friends!" Shut up Riley, you obligatory black hire. We are not going.

[A/N: Just to be clear, this is a dig at the current Hollywood film industry. And not an attempt to be racist, I am of a darker skin color myself.]

I looked at the rest of the class, they were all contemplating it. Some were even nodding, why would they even agree to risk their life? Why choose to take a risk like that?

"No!" I snapped at them, "We will not be making Batman's job harder, we will stay put and wait," And I will stay safe!

"But we have to help out friends," Another argued, where did those understanding kids go? Where did those kids who knew not to raise their voices to go?

Fuck this mess. If I let them go, how would that look to Batman? These shitty meat bags, I should have just bolted instead of going for the camera, fuck, I made such a dumb mistake. I need to be better than to survive in this world.

[A/N: Next chapter we explore the impact of real life superheroes on the youth.

Also this fic crossed 900 collections! Thank you for all the support! Love you all.

To the guy who I told we would see her exploring her power this chapter, I have shifted that to the next chapter. Sorry. But as an apology, here's the chapter one day early.]
