Chapter 7: Chapter 7— Yer a Wizard, Harry

~Fun Fact: Did you know that Hagrid is always shown as if he shouldn't have been expelled, while he wasn't the one to attack the students he still endangered them. He had a pet Acromantula, Werewolf Cubs, the Blast-Ended Skrewts that he created without a permit and he had a pet Dragon.

A few weeks later, I once again found myself and Harry sitting on the stairs at lunch. We had just finished an English lesson with Umbridge 2.0 and I was beyond famished. I opened my lunch box and was greeted with two cheese and tomato sandwiches, an apple and a juice box.

'Ah~, all of my favourite things all in one place.' I thought, satisfied.

Harry looked at my lunch-box longingly, thinking I hadn't noticed him looking.

"Hey, Harry!" I said in mock anger. "Want some food?" my voice switching from angry to teasing.

"N-no, I'm fine." He replied embarrassed.

Over the course of the month, his stuttering had dropped from every sentence, to once in a blue moon.

"Nah, I insist. Not like I can eat two whole sandwiches alone!" I said, taking the other sandwich out of my lunch box.

Harry blinked at me owlishly before reaching tentatively to grab the sandwhich. Taking a bite, his face lit up as he continued to wolf down the sandwich. I was completely taken aback.

'I didn't know that he was that hungry…'

"That was amazing. Thank you!" He said with an enthusiasm that betrayed his earlier timidity.

He rushed forward and hugged me and that was when I felt the true extent of his abu— no, his torture at the hands of the Dursleys. Through his uniform, I could feel his ribs and I heard Harry wince in pain over my shoulder as I reciprocated his hug a bit too enthusiastically.

'I probably touched a bruise' I thought, cold fury seeping into my heart.

"Harry, I want you to tell me truthfully, who did this to you?" I asked in a cold voice that held the promise of retribution behind it.

"U-Uncle Vernon..." He said, his stutter resurfacing once more.

I moved in to hug him again. Albeit a little softer this time.

"I'm sorry Harry, there's not much I can do but if you'd like, you could come over to my house tomorrow. It's my birthday."

That was a lie, not that it was my birthday, but the part about me not being able to do much. There was plenty I could do, but none that were 100% certain. And I refused to give an already damaged boy hope just to rip it all away from him afterwards. Suddenly, my shoulder started to feel wet as Harry's tears fell upon it, his sniffling becoming audible.

"W-why are you always s-so nice to me?!" he asked tearfully. "When no one would sit with me in class, you did. And then you told Dudley to go away when he was mean to me and you always beat up his friends when they tried to hurt me. Why?! Why are you being so nice to me?"

"Because Harry, you looked like you could use a friend." I said softly, holding back the tears that threatened to fall down my face.

'Why must this happen to him?' I lamented. 'I understand the need for character development but this isn't fiction any more.'

After that bombshell, Harry broke down completely as he collapsed into my arms crying. I did nothing but hold him until he exhausted himself with tears. Gently placing him against the wall behind us, I wiped away both my tears, and his as I began to eat one of the sandwiches while leaving the other for Harry.

Half an hour later, Harry started stirring as I turned around and said "So, you're finally awake. I saved you a sandwich and if you're fast enough, you can finish it before lunch ends. After that, we can go drink water from the fountains and go back to class."

"U-um Yan?" Harry asked timidly.

"Yeah?"

"Thanks for being my bestest friend ever!" He said, smiling with tears in his eyes.

"You're welcome, Harry!" I replied cheerfully while patting his shoulder. "Now, finish that sandwich before Umbr— I mean, Miss Katherine comes outside to bring us back to class."

*****

A day later, it was Saturday as I stood at my bedroom window, eagerly awaiting the arrival of my new best friend. After all, today was the day I asked him to come over.

Suddenly, there was a knocking at the door as I rushed down the stairs to answer.

"Slow down little Yan!" I heard the very much amused voice of my mother call out from the living room.

"But, mum! It's Harry!" I shouted back.

Opening the door, Harry's emerald green eyes met my dark blue ones as joy filled his face.

"Yan!" he cried happily as he leapt forward to hug me.

"Hello Harry!" I chirped, hugging him back. I then moved aside and invited him indoors.

"Hello, Harry. Thanks for coming over for Yan's birthday." my mother said as she walked over to the door.

"Oh, it's fine Mrs Barak. Yan is my bestest friend ever!" he said happily as my heart practically melted.

"Well isn't that nice." She said with a smile, ruffling both our hair. "The cake isn't quite ready yet, so go up to Yan's room and have some fun till then, okay?"

"Ok!" Harry and I said in unison.

I looked at Harry as my mum walked off.

"Race you?" I said cockily, sprinting up the stairs.

"Hey! Wait for me, Yan!" I heard Harry shout as we ran up the stairs giggling hysterically.

*****

After playing a few rounds of snap, I decided to ask Harry about accidental magic.

"Hey Harry, I have a question. Have you ever done anything that should be impossible before like floating stuff or something?"

"T-That's a bit of a weird question, Yan." Harry commented nervously, looking up from his cards.

"But have you?" I pressed.

"Once. I did better than Dudley on a test, so he told Uncle Vernon. After that, he pushed me over and kicked me shouting, "How dare a freak be better than my son!" and then sent me to my room. I was so angry and upset that things started floating around me."

'Sorry Hagrid, I'm about to steal your line...' I thought apologetically.

"I have something to tell you. You're a Wizard, Harry!"

"I-I'm a what?!" He shouted, bewildered.

"A Wizard, Harry." I repeated confidently. "Look at this!" I said as I levitated the deck of cards on my left. My face was as composed as I could make it yet I still felt the strain, albeit not a very big one. Harry's jaw dropped as he took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes for good measure before putting them back on.

"Wow! That's real?! Magic is real?!" He exclaimed.

"Yes, now shush. I'm pretty sure my parents are wizards too, but they don't know that I know they are so we better keep this under wraps."

Harry nodded enthusiastically. I smiled to mask my tiredness as I lowered the still floating deck of cards..

*****

For the next few hours, Harry and I tried levitating a variety of objects around the room. From pencils, to books and pillows, and at the very end, as a sort of 'fuck it' challenge, my chair. Needless to say, neither of us could lift it.

It really became apparent to me how gifted Harry was as it took him no more than 17 tries to grasp levitating things with his magic, of course with advice from me, since he obviously was still a child.

'Then again, if he could score average in tests without ever really trying, imagine how well he'd do if he applied himself.' I thought.

"Boys! The cake's ready!" We heard mum shout from downstairs.

Harry and I glanced at each other as grins broke out across our faces. We raced down the second floor corridor as the running and giggling of two children could be heard from downstairs.

*****

It was around 6pm when dad got back home after taking Harry back to the Dursleys. He opened the door and I saw he was still on a phone call.

"—Yeah, I know Ted but they're not treating him like a person at all! He's got a room inside a cupboard for god's sake!" He shouted angrily.

There was a momentary pause as he calmed down and listened to the person on the other end of the call.

"Yeah, hey Ted, I know you're a Wizarding lawyer but you reckon we could intimidate them? Scare them away from hurting Harry. Then he could spend the majority of the week at our place. We have the extra room for it."

"Alright, I'll call you back next week or so, okay?" He said as he hung up the phone.

I dashed around the corner and hid behind the shoe cupboard thinking he couldn't see me, but I was naïve.

"I can still see your hair little Yan." My dad said chuckling in amusement.

'Damn his height!' I thought, exasperated.

"Will Harry come live with us daddy?" I asked innocently while inwardly rejoicing.

"Hopefully. The people who live with Harry aren't very nice so we're trying to get them to let him live with us for most of the week."

"That's awesome daddy!" I exclaimed, leaping to hug him as he picked me up while laughing.

"What, are you looking forward to making a racket?" He said teasingly, his purple eyes glinting amusedly.

"Yup!" I replied as we laughed together.

"Dinner's ready!" We heard mum call from the dining room. I looked at dad and smiled slyly.

"Race you?"

"Ha! You're years too early to be racing your dad—" Was all he got to say before I sprinted past him, my laughter being carried through the wind.
