Chapter 26: The small things in life.

Slowly opening his eyes, Nemesis awoke. The hard, uneven ground which he lay on felt uncomfortable. Lifting himself off of the ground, he stood up straight, however, noticed strange details about both his whereabouts and stature. Conjuring a small handheld mirror, he stared like some narcissist infatuated with his image, at himself. His youthful face and dual coloured eyes blankly stared back at himself.

'This... can't be. If this is during that time, it has got to be in the future so, me looking like this isn't normal. This shouldn't be happening. Am I not supposed to relieve these memories through my own eyes?' Nemesis completely baffled at what was occurring. He pinched both his cheeks and felt a sharp pain coming from both cheeks.

Rubbing his cheeks to comfort the pain, he then glanced around now wary of his surroundings. While he may be within the [Void Mirror] he has no clue of the properties and thus wasn't sure if any injuries would be transferred to his real body.

He was in an empty wasteland with only a gigantic wall a couple hundreds of meters away. Nothing else was located near him though, it was truly a barren land.

Scanning his approximate area and the inside of the wall located away from him, he could sense thousands [Void Conduits] moving about in the direction of the wall, the number fluctuating as people left and entered the radius.

"I... I guess that's where I should go. I have not entered there yet otherwise there'd be no movement from within." Nemesis softly mumbled to himself before speed walking towards the [Rank - 4 Demonic Domain]. It had been years since he last entered [Styrlheim].

---

Glancing up as the looming wall which towered over his meagre presence. Even he couldn't help but let out a small chuckle to himself at the sight. With his neck held high and eyes staring at the sky, he wasn't able to see the sky past the wall. It simply just too tall.

"Well, guess walls work." Nemesis couldn't help but admire before muttering quietly to himself, "In blocking my view."

The number of [Void Conduits] he could sense within the walls now numbered over 10 million demons.

His body quickly transformed into a purplish-black form and jiggled slightly, as if he were a giant, human-shaped slime. The purplish-black Void he has transformed to then sunk into the ground and within the blink of an eye, any trace of his existence there disappeared.

---

Within the bustling [Demonic Domain Styrlheim], amidst the hearty laughs, joyful conversations and pleasant atmosphere, away from sight near the wall which separated this striving domain and the barren lands outside, a spot of the ground turned a purplish-black hue. The purplish-black liquid slime began congealing as it grew and shaped itself into a human-shaped figure.

The purplish-black hue began dissolving as it seemingly evaporated, colouring in the individual and his attire.

Standing tall with his back upright, dressed in a vampire's outfit though lacking the cape. His pure black, pristine suit top with a cryptic symbol flaunted upon his left breast pocket. The symbol, completely visible was of a bird's talons meshed in with an eye drawn atop of the talons. Near the neck region, the two buttons closest to the neck were undone, revealing a vibrant white undershirt. His pants were pure black too with only two pockets at his sides, no button or belt anywhere in sight. His shoes once again black, lacking laces or stripes and his two hands had a pair of delicate, pristine white gloves covering them but upon closer inspection, his outfit seemed to be attached to him, as if a prison keeping captive a prisoner.

His azure sky-blue and lustring emerald green coloured eyes dazzled bringing a wave of positivity to his dreary, dull attire. Finally, his pale skin which seemed to have never have seen any sunlight before which fit with his vampiric appearance and his sharp, jet-black spikey hair.

He glanced around as a reassurance to ensure that he wasn't spotted then once he was clear, he ventured forth onto the streets of [Styrlheim]. Lost in cause with no real motive to drive why he was doing such a thing.

Nemesis walked by many sights, paying attention to everything around him, continuously halting just to glance around and sometimes watch what others were doing. Within only the first two minutes of practically window shopping the area, he saw a demon lady selling [Harmonious Heart Flowers] for only [5 Bronze Spites] a flower at a stand on the street, along with what he presumed to be her son. The pair of [Ruthless Ravangers] selling dainty flowers and babbling about their benefits to the environment and how they helped one calm one's nerves was an amusing sight for him. He has been so used to what he has done to every surviving demon left, enslaving them that he forgot the little things in life could grant more joy than the endless misery which he caused, wishing that it would bring him even the slightest hint of happiness as he did his task.

He couldn't help but reach into his pocket, ignoring the crowd of various demons walking by him as within his pocket, he conjured up [10 Bronze Spites]. He wanted to see if by seeing the whimsical sight could grant him happiness, what would granting them happiness cause for him?

Walking up to the pair as he squeezed by other pedestrians of diverse races, he made it to the flower stand and with his best efforts, he attempted to give a real, 100% genuine smile. One similar to the ones he had shown Shane yet had always felt something off with.

What he did actually show was a crooked, awkward and nervous smile to the mother and son [Ruthless Ravanger] duo. The duo couldn't help but crack a smile of their own on their scaled faces as they let out a tiny chuckle. The mother quickly composing herself looked at Nemesis and asked, "Are you by any chance lost? We'll help you find your parents." The mother then quickly added to reassure Nemesis, "Don't worry, your parents must certainly be anxious and worries for you so it won't take long to find them."

Nemesis couldn't help but let out a sigh in defeat. He had failed at a true, genuine smile to someone else in his life other than Shane and even then, the smile he gave Shane felt awkward to him as if something were missing. Rapidly shaking his head so as to not have the older of the two [Ruthless Ravangers] yell out for his non-existent "parents" he replied as he shook his head.

"Er.. no... I-I mean, no I'm not lost. I'm actually here to pur-purchase two [Har...Harmonious Heart Flowers] please." Nemesis response was in a shaky, uncertain and tone as he stammered throughout his reply.

"Oh... well, you are aware that it is [5 Bronze Spites] each, so it will be [10 Bronze Spites] to buy the two of them." The mother [Ruthless Ravanger] replied, believing that the kid was unaware that the price was for each flower.

Nemesis, saving himself from the embarrassment of failing at public speaking, took out [10 Bronze Spites] from his pocket and raised them up to the mother [Ruthless Ravanger].

Her eyes widened slightly that the kid had that money on him, as he was after all a kid and then she paid a lot more attention to his attire and noticed the pristine condition and simply nodded, taking the [10 Bronze Spites] held by Nemesis and placing two [Harmonious Heart Flowers] on the palm of his hand to finish their transaction.

"Thank you for purchasing our flowers." The mother and son duo spoke in sync, Nemesis certain that it was something they said after every purchase. "Thank you for the flowers." He replied before walking away from the duo, still grasping at the two flowers in his hands, making sure not to let them fall as he went to venture forth and explore more of the city which he had destroyed, in that past life, all those years ago...

Sorry for the long hiatus, once again I lost myself into my gaming addiction. Sorry, I got no excuses, if anyone is even left to read this, thank you.

I'm a disgrace of a writer, sorry.
