Chapter 4: Two Missions

[Ding! To receive Quests, you must find employers. Would you like system to search for potential employers?]

"Uhm… yes"

[Ding! Three possible employers located in the restaurant district.]

[Ding! Two possible employers located in market]

"I choose the restaurant district I guess."

He walked out and didn't even bother to check the safe. He was done with this man's life and wanted his own. However, as he left he couldn't help but look back and toss a key on the ground.

"Here, I hope there was something good in that safe." He said before he laughed and walked out back into main street. He headed towards the restaurants.

Basically, the town was divided into five parts, and after passing through two more parts he arrived at a bustling restaurant.

He hadn't eaten for a while, so he asked a waitress for a table. It seemed like this part of town was largely unscathed, and there was even quite a lot of noise.

A second later, the same waitress walked up to him with a menu, and a smile.

"Hi, we're surprisingly crowded, right? What can I get you?"

Marcus pointed to a few things on the menu before the waitress smiled and nodded her head. However, before she could leave, he reached out and grabbed her hand.

"Oh, dear. I forgot to ask, would you happen to know if your manager was here. I heard he might be looking for a helping hand."

The girl smiled at him as he let go of her wrist. "Ah, so you saw the posting! I'll go get him and bring you your food. Just please don't leave. We've been looking for someone forever…"

She wiggled away over towards another table before she ran off into the kitchen. Her shadow drooped out through the bottom of the doorway. He could almost see her excitement before a man ran out holding a plate.

It took him roughly ten seconds to approach Marcus and throw out his hand.

"Ah, if It isn't the man of the hour! So, you're here to talk about project Sam?"

Marcus waved the man to sit down, and he joined him in the booth putting down the food that he asked for. It was some wild roadrunner with a side of jack rabbit sauce and fried potatoes. He kind of remembered hearing about this dish in game and was wondering what the taste would feel like as it touched his tongue.

"S-So… Yes… Project Sam…" He munched as the flavor mixed in with his words. He shook off the taste before the bald man threw out a package.

"Ha, well, here you go. If you can take care of Sam's restaurant for me, I'll give you the other half."

The man smiled before he stood up and started dancing.

"Did you hear that Sam! Someone's going to rob you tonight," He laughed as he ran off into the kitchen."

[Ding! Mission acquired. Rob Sam's shop of his peacock]

[Mission Type: Theft}

[Reward 200 experience, SP points + 5]

Marcus sighed as he looked over at the store he was supposed to rob. Luckily, Sam didn't hear him, and he was able to eat his meal in piece.

He sat there for a while looking out before he realized everyone had left.

"So, you're still here, Macus right?"

The waitress sat down as Marcus sipped another cup of coffee. Luckily, this world had things like coffee, and a few modern amenities, so he had enough energy to stare at the waitress in front of him.

She had gorgeous locks twirled into her hair. She still looked pretty after a ten hour shift, and he happened to glance at her a few times when he wasn't looking over at Sam's shop. She still looked pretty after ten hours, and he was bored enough to answer her.

"Yup, just waiting for Sam's shop to close so I can complete the project..."

The girl laughed before she scooted into the booth Marcus was in. "Ah, it's just a silly competition between these two owners. However, that peacock has a blessing on it. Hence, we're really hoping you can get it for us."

Marcus nodded his head before he sipped one more cup of coffee. "I'll do my best to get it. However, what do you mean it has a blessing on it. What kind of peacock is it?"

The girl smiled before she leaned in and took his plate. "You'll find out after you get it! Now, stop making me stay here late. I have to get home, so I can wake up and do this again!" The girl laughed as Marcus handed his cup to her.

"Well, I'll be back in the morning with your peacock," he smiled at her as he fixed his satchel and took the envelope with half his pay. He didn't even bother to count it, and found himself walking over towards the man leaving the restaurant across the street.

He sighed before he 'accidentally' stumbled and fell into him.

[Ding! You've stolen the key to Sam's restaurant]

He fell onto the floor before the man offered him his hand and pulled him up.

"S-Sorry… I didn't see you there," Marcus said as the key vanished into his inventory.

The man in front of him was named Sam, and he could tell that he wasn't doing too well.

Sam Oraco

Civilian

Lvl 2

HP 20 / 20

Energy 2 / 15

Marcus laughed before he dusted himself off.

"Sorry about that. I didn't see you there, but man why do you look so tired?"

Sam sighed before he pointed towards the restaurant across the street. "I just had a long day trying to keep up with them… I'm sorry about not watching where I was going..."

Marcus pat him on the back. "It's alright. You helped me out, actually, by bumping into me. I was hoping to ask if you had any jobs."

The man in front of him yawned once before he looked at his hands oddly and quickly. "I, uhm, well, might have a job. Yet, you look like a nice guy. You wouldn't be willing to spy on my wife, would you?" He laughed before he pulled out an envelope.

"I'm just kidding. What I really need is for someone to steal me a couple ingredients from the market. If you get a chance, steal a few exotic eggs for me. I'm hoping to raise a few more peacocks to piss Jorge off. Would you be willing to do that for me?"

"Uhm, yeah, but wouldn't it be bad if I got caught? Why don't you just buy the eggs?"

Sam laughed before he pointed towards his pocket. "If I can save a little money, the better it is for me. Now, I got to get home before my wife starts planning to leave me again. However, get me that egg and you'll get a good reward!"

[Ding! You've acquired Mission: Sam's desire for luck]

[Mission Type: theft]

[Reward 300 experience points, 1 gift basket]

Marcus smiled before he pulled out the key and turned it into Sam's restaurant.

A second later, he saw a sleeping peacock in a cage not too far away from him hanging from the ceiling.

With one leap he reached up and grabbed onto the cage and pulled out his knife.
