Chapter 12: Rune

Human? She may have been human but she is most definitely no longer human. And the water she spoke of? I need to find out what it is and most importantly what it's doing to her. No wonder she was walking around looking like that... But how had she come to this world in the first place? Humans can't enter this world. I needed to look into this more.

I shift out of the castle to the forest she spoke of. Sure enough, the trees were all twisted and broken. The large trees were no longer bursting with life.. it felt like a graveyard. I found the area she described and knelt down touching the pile of ashes. Live water? Why had I never heard of it? I stand up and look around. I backtrack to the old tree she spoke of and look around. The old tree was broken and lifeless. I pull my power to me and slam it into the ground.

Instantly the images of Syn Slowly lowering out of the sky and being placed in front of the old tree was played out in front of me. Shocked I watched as the lightning struck her and the ground she laid on. It pulsed and then was gone. Syn laid there as the trees slowly awakened to find her. I quietly watched everything and gritted my teeth in anger as she hid from those bastards Ryder and Keen. She was lucky the trees had helped her or she would have died.

I watched her as she is chased and nearly killed before making out of the forest. I pull my power back and walk back to the old tree. "Thank you," I say placing my hand on the tree. I think back to the seed he gave Syn and what it might be. I use my power to erase everything that happened here in case Ryder or Keen come back to search. They won't be able to see anything now. I don't want anyone to know what she really was.

I suddenly thought of something. The trees had called it live water but that didn't mean that it was truly called that. What if it went by a different name? I shift back to my office in the castle to find Ren waiting for me. "What did you find?" I ask Ren as I sit down. "Nothing.. I can't find anything on her.. It's like she doesn't exist." Ren says confused. My smile grows as I say "Because she doesn't."

Ren looked at me confused but waited for me to explain. "She doesn't exist in our world. She was speaking the truth. She was human and somehow she came here as a human. She spoke of this water called "live water". I want you to quietly find out what it is and if it goes by another name. I will send one of our men to the human world to find her information." I say determined. Ren nods and shifts out. My thoughts shift back to Syn and her scared look and I sigh.

It seems like she has stumbled upon something that has completely changed her life. Something she didn't want or ask for but I will keep her safe. I decided to go back and speak with Syn. I walk into the room to find her holding Fig and I suddenly felt bad about earlier. "Is he okay?" I ask. Her beautiful eyes land on me and she gives me a warning look. "You went too far." She says angrily. I nod and apologize as I take a seat in the chair again.

Looking at her sitting on the floor holding Fig as the sunlight bathes them in a warm glow.. it looks like something from a picture. How can someone be so pretty? Everything from her odd hair color to the slight pink glow on her full lips.. It made something in me stir. I suddenly realized I was scared. Scared of the way I reacted around her and what that could mean. "Look, I came here to place a few rules okay?" I say watching her. She nods her head without looking at me and I suddenly find myself crouched in front of her with my hand on her delicate chin.

I wanted her to look at me and I wanted to see those eyes of hers. Those eyes that held depths I found myself quickly drowning in and I liked the feeling. Dammit, I liked when she looked at me and I liked getting lost in those magical eyes. The blue and lilac color never really mixing but together making them hypnotizing. Even if she was glaring at me I was okay with it. Like an idiot. "I will allow you and Fig access to the entire castle and the grounds but you cannot leave. Do you understand?" I ask while releasing her chin.

My hands shook.. I wanted to keep touching her. I took a deep breath and backed away after she nodded her head. "Dinner will be served soon," I say before turning around and shifting out to my office. I lean over my desk thinking about my reaction. Was this because of the live water? Or was I like this because it was her.. I shouldn't be losing control like this. I look at the hand that just held her chin and clench my jaw. I can fight this... whatever this was.
