Chapter 10: The King of Gambling

After training, Michael created a roadmap. He planned out which casinos to go to; how long to stay at each one and how much money to make from each one. After a good night's sleep, he headed to Choctaw Casino.

Three Months Later

Riverwind casino was holding a Christmas party; there were many celebrities attending and everybody was having a blast. Many people were gossiping about the Mysterious gambler that debuted in the Oklahoma gambling scene three months ago. He was said to be a young man who just kept winning. He would win nearly $150,000 every day and he kept visiting different casinos. He had visited over a hundred casinos and established his place at the throne as the King of Gambling. However, this king was very reclusive; he turned down interviews and even turned down the invite to World Poker championships.

Ironically because he never went over a moderate limit and because he frequently switched casinos, he actually brought in more money to the casino; because he always attracted huge crowds when he gambled. They would watch him win and later try to gamble themselves. After all, he looked so young; if he could do it maybe they can too. It's not like he has a magical system.

Naturally, the gossipers were all talking about Michael Rodriguez and they were all wrong because he had a very magical system. Michael was attending the party too; except he was in disguise so nobody recognized him. This was going to be his last day in Oklahoma. He had been gambling and training for the past three months. He earned nearly $14 million dollars. He did not want to earn anymore because he felt like he attracted too much attention. There were cars following him to his motel after he gambled. Fortunately, he could detect them with his animal instincts skill and always lost them.

He knew that they were sent by casinos to watch over them. Clearly, they were only watching for now because he had not yet crossed the bottom line of the casinos so far. However, he did not plan to push his luck any further.

He skipped out on the rest of the party and headed to his motel. He had to keep switching motels to throw off the stalkers. Ironically he did not even get a chance to use his new car because it would give him away.

He checked for any noise before walking into the room. He had learned his lesson from last time and was always cautious even when entering his own room. He realized that he was already a millionaire; He was also basically a Superhuman. However, None of these things made him happy. He was glad to have the system but when he was young he thought he would be happy if he was rich or was strong enough. However, lately, he realized happiness is not something you can buy or even acquire overnight.

Michael could not help but think of the time he was in the orphanage. The orphanage was run by a retired priest; who was very strict but cared deeply for all of the kids. He once asked Father George who his parents were and where he came from. However, Father George said he will only say it once Michael grew up as an adult.

He doesn't blame his parents because they might have had a good reason, and he would have rather been raised by the priest than some abusive parents. However, sometimes especially during holidays like today he can't help but feel like he was missing something.

Michael decided that once he goes back to Briarcliff, he will ask Father George about his parents. He felt like he needed closure. He cannot just spend the rest of his life using his orphan status as an excuse to stay away from people.

Michael then turned his attention to the system. He transferred $1 million and checked his status.

Name: Michael Rodriguez

Strength: 7.3

Intelligence: 7.9

Stamina: 7.1

Agility: 7.1

Status: Healthy

Credits: 1,070,000

Three months of intensive training had only raised his stats by 1 point each. He was still getting used to the system and all its quirks. "System are stats and skills related? Why do I have to train? Can't I just buy and upgrade skills?" Michael had been wondering about this for a while now. If he could just buy skills with money then why bother training?

[ Host needs to understand that in order to be able to use skills, you need to have the appropriate stats. Think of the stats as your physical strength and the skills as your weapon. Even if you have a godly divine sword, you need to have a minimum strength to be able to use it. Right now host has not even unlocked all the skills yet because you do not meet the stat requirements for them.]

That kind of makes sense. Honestly, Michael did not mind the training; especially the meditating was very fruitful and one of the main reasons why he could operate like a machine for this past couple of months.

He decided to buy some more skills after all one can never have enough skills.

[Congratulations on buying skills. You have purchased:

Basic Intimidation (10,000 credits): You have an aura that once activated will intimidate weaker individuals. Even stronger individuals will be cautious and respect you.

Basic Enhanced Vision (10,000 credits): Will allow you to see much further and gives partial vision in darkness.

Basic Temperature tolerance (10,000 credits): You will be able to handle extreme temperatures much better.

Basic Digestive Efficiency (10,000 credits): You will last three times as long without food and water.

Basic Stock Market analysis (100,000 credits): You have much better chances of determining the true value of a stock and its future trend.

Basic Persuasion (100,000 credits): You have higher chances of convincing someone and manipulating their thoughts.

Deducting 240,000 credits. Do not forget to upgrade your skills. ]

After purchasing the skills Michael once again passed out as his body was being reformed and information flooded his brain. This time though he was prepared and was already at his bed ready for a nap.

He quickly recovered and woke up. He could feel the changes in his body especially the Temperature tolerance skill and Enhanced vision skill. He wasn't bothered by the heat and could see much farther ahead. He did not have complete night vision but he could partially see in the darkness.

Michael decided to go to bed. He wished himself Merry Christmas and slowly drifted into sleep.
