Chapter 52: Kowtow

The system started to cackle with glee. "Hey partner that was awesome, your getting better in your act... Or are you not acting anymore? Well... Still you could work on your condescending talk, or you could practice looking indifferent as if everything is going as planned. Hmm for now your doing alright, but I hope you get to sound more O.P, and not just act O.P actually try living and breathing being more O.P. The only way you can get by in this world or any other is if you have power, and to get powerful you need to rely on me your buddy the system."

The system was laughing in Ragna's mind, but Ragna ignored him. Ragna fully utilized the memories of the character he got the the Gradation air skill from. He was the coolest character in that VN, his life was full of hardships and he had an eschewed sense of justice. Ragna wanted to use that heroic spirit's ultimate move, but with his current level of mana, he was unable to form it.

So he needed to make the weapon that heroic spirit made the most, the weapon the heroic spirit was the most familiar with. Even though in the VN this weapons were absolutely weaker than Caliburn, but because the skill Gradation Air is stronger the better ones understanding of the weapon, this was a better weapon to make than Caliburn; Because there is no other weapon that heroic spirit was most familiar with.

Ragna started remembering the history of the blades he was about to project, the better his understanding the stronger the projection. Kanshou and Bakuya: Gān Jiàng and Mò Yé are "married" twin swords representing Yin and Yang, crafted by the blacksmith Gān Jiàng of Wu during the Spring and Autumn Period of China. They were crafted more for the sake of crafting, as if questioning the meaning of the swordsmith, than for any real idea behind their creation. They were created without vanity, and lack a sense of purpose found in other swords. They contain no fighting spirit to defeat others nor a competitive spirit to beat other weapons, and they contain neither the desire to be famous nor the faith to accomplish great deeds.

Upon receiving orders from the King of Wu to forge an imperial sword, Gān Jiàng could not think of ways to forge swords that fit such orders. While he was extremely frustrated and desperate, his wife, Mò Yé, upon seeing this situation, decided to gamble her own life. The sacrificing of human lives is absolutely necessary in order to forge items reaching the realm of Gods, so Bakuya hurled herself into the furnace in front of the husband she loved and used her own life to help the Essence of Five Mountains and the Metal of Six Heroes meld. Kanshou forged the two swords in grief. He kept the Yang sword, named "Gān Jiàng", and he only handed over the Yin Sword, "Mò Yé", to the king when it came time to present them. The king was furious upon discovering the deception, and he had Gān Jiàng killed.

Their quality and ability as swords is high due to being made with the best materials and a human sacrifice, and they have shamanistic and ritual aspects as enchanted weapons.

"Trace on" Twin blades appeared in Ragna's two hands. Though they were made devoid of battle intent and neither the desire to become famous or accomplish great deeds, but due to the continuous use of the heroic spirit, it gain a new meaning and has now a great amount of battle intent.

Kei saw the twin blades Ragna created instantaneously. They were identical in shape with the only difference being their color. Kanshou (Gān Jiàng), the black Yang sword, is covered in a hexagonal pattern, and Bakuya (Mò Yé), the white Yin sword, has less of the shine of a polished metal in its ore than it has the haze of a cloud.

They were exquisite looking swords, though they lack the majesty of Caliburn, the people knew that this twin blades were in a more completed state. Even those who knew almost nothing about blacksmithing felt the twin blades were a more complete creation than Caliburn. The Elders of the Burning Flame sect gritted their teeth once they saw Kanshou and Bakuya, they knew their Sect Leader was about to lose.

Kei on the other hand was in a very frantic state, and was startled by the twin swords held by Ragna.

"So do I win now? Or do you still want to judge my weapons?"

When Kei heard Ragna, he bit his lip until it bled, but after awhile smiled at Ragna. "Ok then how about we ask these master blacksmiths their judgement."

When the crowd heard Kei suggest the Elders of his own sect be the judge, they found him really despicable. He suggested the same thing once again. They thought that Ragna would deny his way of judging, but what he said next shocked everyone present.

"Sure they can judge my work. I'm sure such masters have enough prestige to judge fairly." Ragna smiled at the Elders. Kei frowned when he heard Ragna's statement but then smiled again and reached for Ragna's weapons to show the Elders.

"There's no need, I will show them the swords myself." Ragna went closer to the Elders and displayed to them Kanshou and Bakuya.

When the Elders saw the almost flawless workmanship their mouths were agape. As a weapon with the battle intent as weapons the two were almost perfect. Even the beauty it exudes was almost peerless, the symmetry of the swords made them truly feel like they were meant for each other.

"So what's the verdict?" Ragna asked without breaking his smile. The crowd as well as Kei found it funny, that Ragna even asked. It was obvious the Elders of the Burning Flame Sect would side with their sect leader.

Yet the Elders did something out of anyones expectations, they kowtowed in front of Kei. "We are sorry sect leader, but we cannot claim such a perfect specimen of a weapon will lose. If we did so we would never be able to be blacksmiths again."
