Chapter 3: Expedition
'So this is how the skill activates. I was wondering whether I have to say some magic word or something to get it to activated' Scott thought as he tries to withheld his emotion and let go of Hilda's hand.
"Hi, I'm Dale Crane, the person next to me here is Tom, Tom Wilburn. He's kind of a quiet person so don't take it to heart if he doesn't say much to you." said one the boys while also stretching his hand to Scott.
Scott replied with some courteous word and shake Dale's hand and based on his guess the system gives the same notification. But when he let go of Dale's hand the system notification disappear. The same sequence occurs when Scott introducing himself to Claudia
'I want to use the skill but it would be a waste to use it on freshman students' thought Scott 'There's also a rule if I remember correctly that requires me to be at close proximity with the target. It would be a waste to use it now since there no telling how the expedition going to go. '
After 15 minutes pass more and more students shows up at the meeting point. At that time Scott saw a familiar figure arriving.
"I heard you already woke up but I didn't think you foolish enough to be here." said the leading figure with a mocking sneer.
Qamir quickly replies with "What does it matter to you Orville. Are you his mom or something. Oh and by the way who invited you here as I recall you seem to look down on associating with our kind"
"Oh, I'm just a righteous and proud noble who is looking out for you lesser nobles and commoners. I don't want Scott to experience another 'misfortune' befall upon him. Not after when he just got back. And to answer that question of yours where I go and what I do is none of your business" said Orville with a hint of mockery in his voice.
The surrounding atmosphere became a bit uncomfortable with Orville present. It was at that time a voice can be heard. "Alright, alright break it up all of you I don't want any conflict while we are here."
The voice came from a charismatic individual who seems to be the senior that is helping out with the expedition. Behind him stood 3 more people that seem to be the individual friends with their robe and battle armor. 'Based on what the Qamir have told previously this person should be the leader of the group, I think his name is William.'
"Alright, I think everyone's here. Now before we begin I guess a proper introduction is in order. My name William, William Geeve I will be one of your guide and chaperone for today expedition. Now I don't want to waste everyone's time and get right straight to the point. Since there are 20 of you here I want everyone gets into groups of 5 people in each group. Then each guide will go to your group where you guys pay the deposit money before we began the expedition. Then once all preparations are made for, each group will follow their designated guide "
Scott looks around and saw that all of his classmates alright have their own clique. It seems due to his presence with Qamir friends it causes an awkward situation.
"How about we split up evenly there's 6 of us here. So if we should split into a group of 3 people. I can see that some of our classmates seem to be in the same dilemma as us so they would also have to split up with their own group so that none of them will be left out. I'm sure there would be someone to fill our group." Said Qamir to get rid of the troubling mood.
"I second that notion. We can't just leave Scoot on his own right. So to make things easier for you guys I will be joining them" Said, Hilda.
The other three people in Qamir's clique wanted to say something but since Qamir and Hilda already made up their mind. They decided to just go along with the division of the group.
After a while, all of the students have formed their group. Orville group with his own clique while Qamir's friends already have 2 of their acquaint classmates joining them. As for Scott group, the 2 other people that join his group are the ones that are left out. The timid girl Angela and the loner Flinn. While the senior that accompany them is William.
"Alright, now that everyone has their group and have deposited their gold, let move out."
Each group embarks on their expedition by going to different paths so that they won't fight over the limited resources they seek. While walking through the wood Scott, Qamir, and Hilda make some small conversation with each other with Angela joining in on it with her nervous voice.
"Oh. you're from the Norton, Angela. I heard it a quiet place there away from the busy city life. So are you getting used to the lifestyle here" ask Hilda
"Y-Yes somewhat I'm so used to living in the rural area. It's kinda hard to get used to the busy environment. But since the academy is built at the outskirt of the city I will get by." said Angela with her cute and hesitate voice.
"What about you Flinn care to tell us about yourself," said Qamir while looking at the back of the group. But contrary to Qamir expectation Flinn said nothing and just quietly walk at the back of the group.
But Qamir did not falter instead he keeps talking and talking while also asking some questions to Flinn until he gets the reply he wanted.
".....Taewa...That where I'm from...now be quiet and stop with the 21 questions already..."Flinn said with his cold monotone voice.
Qamir felt as if he won a competition held out his chest while putting his hand on his waist and held his head slightly higher said: "Sheesh see is that so hard it not like I'm getting information about you and selling them or anything... wait what did you say you're from Taewa!"
At that moment a cry of an animal can be heard. William quick said with low and commanding "Shush be quiet everyone. Did you hear that? It sounds like there's a wild animal or monster nearby. Everyone be on your guard"
As they quickly take out their weapons and maintaining a defensive position. They slowly walk over to the area where the noise coming from and saw 2 creatures are fighting against each other.
