Chapter 5: Gifts & Bad news
At the Beifong's house.
Beifong Li yawned, this was a tiresome day for him, he spent half of the day until was his turn to choose and the rest of the night he spent with Sun Mei, although the night was the part of the day he liked the most.
"Mother, Father, I'm going to leave as soon as the sun rises."
Li's mother hugged him, tight. Although she knew this would come, it was hard to let her son go, but she had to do. As she said one day, her son wasn't born to belong to her, like every other person, he belonged to the world.
The mother loosen the hug and went away, now in the room were only Beifong Leylin and Beifong Li, the older man looked to the younger one, was looking to the mirror, but in the past, although the younger version had a beard, was still weird to the father, to this day.
"You are still with this beard…"
"Yes, it's my style Father, when I shave it, I get a baby face... I just can't like that baby face."
"Maybe it's because the beard that they don't talk to you so much."
"Yes, I think so…" Beifong Li smiled and his father noticed.
"Why are you laughing boy?"
"Let's say the beard can be some sort of filter, if they can't go through it, they don't deserve me. And you know that I have always said that one day I would be big, Father."
Beifong Leylin nodded slightly.
"But maybe without the beard, you can find someone to call yours…"
"Father, I already told you, I'm going to marry that girl, Sun Mei."
"You say that but I have never seen you talking to her." Beifong Leylin questioned his son.
"We do at school…she graduated with me, she did those optionals one with me, so she is as smart as I'm, even more, I think, oh that girl..." His eyes were sparkling when talking about Sun Mei.
His father, notice how his son's eyes shone, he knew that looking pretty well, he has it when he looks at his wife, the loving look was a part of Beifong Li now.
"When you are out there, just take care of yourself and protect her, okay?" The father asked his son.
"Yes father, I will. We Beifongs we take care of ours."
"That's our motto, using against me, you've grown boy." After that phrase loaded with proud, they hugged each other.
The mother came to the room and saw those two hugging each other, she knew her husband was not that emotional, so she stood there quietly, waiting for their special moment to have an end.
When they finished they saw the mother there and Beifong Leylin coughed so she wouldn't say something to mock him.
She was there standing with a black robe over her hands, she unfolded it and let it drop, she hangs it over with her hands, displaying the robe, it was a black one, with a white tiger face on the back, but this one was different from the other, this was sleeveless. "This is a gift for you, my son, your great-grandfather used one like this when he went out, so as every generation of our family, although theirs had sleeves, yours I thought It would not help…"
"Thank you mother, that's a beautiful robe indeed, I'll take care of it." Beifong Li thanked his mother.
"Just by any chance…would you have another one like this, but in a small size?"
"I do, but why do you need it?"
"It's a gift to your future daughter in law."
"Future daughter in law" The mother chuckled and left, a few moments later she was back with another robe, like his son's, but smaller.

At the Sun's House
Sun Tzu was still thoughtful, while his youngest daughter was really happy in her own room. Just thinking about the day she had was enough to make her blush.
Her father called her out.
"Sun Mei, come over here."
"I'm going Father." The quiet girl answered promptly.
When she went downstairs, her father wasn't the only one there, her whole family was there by his side. The man was wearing a white and golden silk robe. The house was as well. They were a wealthy family, compared to their peers.
"Uhmm…what happened?!" she blushed by seen all her family there, staring at her.
"I'm the one that asks!" Her father was angry.
"You said that was your response to that man. What do you mean?"
"We met 4 years ago, everything started as a friendship, then now we…" The girl blushed a lot.
"We…like each other."
"I told you…" Said his wife, while she and Mei's sister chuckled.
"No…" said the father almost crying. "I arranged your marriage with the mayor's grandson.". Sun Mei went pale, almost as chalk, then red, she screamed. "You did WHAT?!" Sun Mei was mad, ever her sisters got scared because of her reaction.
"Watch your tongue child, I'm your father." Said Sun Tzu
"I'm so sorry father, but I can't accept that. You want me to marry someone that is as smart as a pigeon and it's not strong. Why would you do that?"
"He is a good boy and he will be strong, you will see with the time being…" Sun Tzu answered without emotion.
"No, he is not good! You know who is good enough for me? Beifong Li, he was the one I chose, not that Xiao Yan ."
"He is the mayor's grandson, maybe he will follow his grandfather's step and become important…he will be good for you." Sun Tzu said with a very serious face.
Sun Mei was shaking went from red to pale again, she couldn't believe what her father had done to her. She stopped right there, stood firmly and her eyes changed.
"When is the marriage?"
Her mother and sister were with their mouths wide open, they couldn't believe that the woman which just had screamed at her father would now obey.
"3 Months from now, why?" Sun Tzu was worried about his daughter, he thought she would do something stupid.
"Nothing special, I just have to defeat him when the time comes." She said, bluntly. Beifong Li's temper was starting to affect Sun Mei. The rest of the family was astonished. The girl was standing her foot for once and in such an important moment. Sun Tzu didn't know what to say, nor the rest of the females in that room.
"Good night, I'm going to sleep now." Sun Mei, said that and left the room.

At the Xiao's house
"Xiao Yan, I have good news for you. Your marriage was settled. "The mayor said that with a big smile on his face.
"My marriage…" the young man was shaken. His hopes were high, he was thinking that maybe his grandfather could arrange a marriage with the An family, he really liked An Anne. But destiny is something odd. The next few words from the mayor weren't what he expected. "You are going to marry Sun Mei." Said the mayor, still smiling.
Xiao Yan went pale in a second. His marriage wasn't with the one he was expecting but instead was with the only girl he wasn't fond off.
"I thought you would talk with the An family…" asked Xiao Yan with a sad face. His grandfather looked at his face and answered him seriously. "I was going to…but it came to my attention that the Sun's girl is way smarter, she will be a good wife and will help you more than An Anne when you become the mayor."
Xiao Yan was as pale as Sun Mei when she received the news. His grandfather had considered to bestowed him to the girl he liked, but he changed his mind.
The young man went silent for a small period and before his grandfather leave, he questioned him a very important question.
"When is the marriage? He was upset.
"3 months from now, why?
"You really think she will survive 3 months outside?
"I don't know, that's entirely up to her." Said the mayor with a bit of sadness in his voice.
"by the way, who is Beifong Li?"
"He is just a nobody, grandfather, don't even bother, his path will take care of him."
The mayor left his grandson's room and the Choosing day from this year was over. Now, if the numbers of monsters would go down and the quantity of meat could go up. Would rely on the amount of help of those new Monster Hunters.
