Chapter 9: Chapter 8: Weirdo In My Office

-Glasses POV-

Yes! Finally my hunter rank has reached the pinnacle. One more big hunt was all I needed to become a Grand Hunter. I had just finished submitting a report about my most recent kill and when my name was announced, I heard whispers around me of people telling each other how amazing 'I' was. How 'I' was able to kill the DoffleGord while most people were told to run away or how 'I' protected a group of weak hunters from a group of Crazed Geavers.

Both were powerful monsters that the multitude of people would be too scared to fight. I could beat them easily! And it wasn't even tiring! I wondered why others are so weak, why they were born into weak families and had to suffer from the weakest training. I felt sorry for them but every time I offer life advice they would disregard it. If they won't take 'my' advice then I shouldn't help them. Nevermind, if I do that the people who think good of me will lose faith.

All that mattered was that people thought good of me. They knew I was strong and someone that wasn't able to be compared to. Even though they called me the Four-Eyed Hero, I was respected. They knew my strength grew faster than normal and my speed of learning was incomparable to others. They knew I out ranked the high priest of the church when it came to priest magic. They knew I was the best, I was the greatest. Everyone believed in that, until today.

-Bragging End-

I listened to the comments around me and confirmed them all to be positive. Even if they weren't true I didn't correct them because it was still a positive exaggeration. Positive exaggerations mean more people will like me. More people liking me means my reputation would improve. Improved reputation would give me better rewards from the Hunter's Association as gifts, from my Father as respect for what 'I have done', and the church as God's reward for good deeds. Yes, I was doing all of this for self-gain but it's worth it and that's all that matters.

After delighting myself spin spoonfuls of compliments I left abruptly. I did that intentionally so people would talk about me after I left. I headed to my priest quarters(which is my second job and income) which is located in an outer section of my mansion. This part of my mansion was closer to the church and anyone who was going to the high priest to get healed or bless would immediately change their mind after seeing my healing center. I got a lot of business this way and I had second option for increasing my reputation.

Most of my successful heals would be spread to the public causing more people to come to my domain instead of the stup- the holy church. I knew plenty of healing spells for hundreds of scenarios and also had plenty of tools that were provided by my father.

So many people came to my healing station everyday and most of the time for stupid reasons. They all either wanted to see me or see if my healing magic was as good as it sounded(which it was). Because of this I had to set up requirements to get healed by me.

Requirement 1: Person must be a Hunter or Adventurer of high rank(5 or higher) or be a Soldier

I set up this requirement for two reasons.

-Reason 1:Most likely if you are a hunter or adventurer of high ranking you will be fighting higher ranking monsters. Higher ranking monsters create more devastating injuries. Healing people from devastating injuries is quite impressive. Doing impressive things increases reputation. Soldiers are quite strong so if they get injured they had to be fighting something powerful.

-Reason 2: Since I do not allow myself to heal people under those rankings or professions, then I am treating my abilities like a reward to others. Hunters or Adventurers who reach the Rank 5 mark will have access to me and only then will they be able to experience the greatness which is my healing. This would also improve my reputation because I would appear as a person of high status(which I am) because people of great strength need my assistance.

Requirement 2: Injury Must be Severe

Usually people would come up to me having a minor injury from a lowly Frox or a monster of that kind. This really gets on my nerves because this is what good-for-one-thing priest are for. GFOT priest are fully capable of healing scratches and cuts that aren't fatal. That's all their good for and they are actually incapable of doing anything else. There are plenty of these people who live in Astasia and if you want a bandage then I'm not the person you should be asking.

The reason why the injury has to be severe is obvious. Healing Severe Injury=Impressive, Impressive=Reputation.

Requirement 3: Peculiarity

This requirement allows you to bypass the other two. If you have an injury or illness that is very interesting and was rarely or never seen then I will heal you. The reasoning is the same as the previous two. Healing someone from an unknown illness would greatly contribute to my reputation.

-Requirements End-

Less people would come because of the requirements and sometimes no one would come at all. People understood why I did this(they thought they did) and treated it normally. It didn't bother me because it was less I had to do to become popular.

I was sitting in my chair behind my desk inside of my priestal quarters. I was patient person and I had a few designated hours when people decided on coming the most so I knew when to wait. Towards the evening when people began bringing in their hunts was when I sat in my chair waiting the longest.

To pass the time, I would practice spells, write down what happens out my window, or throw darts at a target I keep on a wall. This day was different however, two of the Astasia Guards has come rushing to the door. I opened it and greeted them with my priest smile.

They weren't breathing heavily or sweating but I could tell that they ran to get here. A weird-looking Human(?) was unconscious and was held in their arms. It seems they carried him here from the front gates.

"Bring him in." I said it in a more welcoming tone than a commanding one. "Do you know what's going on?"

"No, we've seen a lot but we've never seen anything like this." The calm guard spoke while helping the other guard put the person down on a bed.

"The Elopesion Crystal detected monster energy from within his body!" The other guard which was more energetic than the first told me useful information.

"Why didn't you just extract the monster energy from his body?" I was wondering why these two guards were being stupid and didn't do the obvious solution.

"His body wasn't strong enough to handle that power." The calm guard looked at the sleeping person as they talked.

"He has just came back from killing a monster and suddenly collapsed in pain!" The energetic guard was telling the information out of order and was confusing me.

I decided to start from the beginning. "Are they a hunter or adventurer? Oh, and also what is their rank." I was wondering how strong the monster they were fighting was and where it was located. I decided to ask those two questions and deduce from that.

"Rank 5 Hunter. They aren't that strong though." The calm guard answered while still staring at the unconscious person.

I was curious as to why the guard kept looking at the person and turned my focus onto their body. Even though they looked average and nowhere near as handsome as me I could still sense something within them. They gave off a weird atmosphere that somehow made them look different from how they really did. It wasn't that much of a difference I just think there's something wrong with their back. And their hand. I couldn't put my finger on it so I stopped thinking about it.

I wanted to ask the guards more questions but their presence started making me feel annoyed. Maybe it was just the energetic one.

"You guys can leave now. This person meets my requirements so I will help them to the best of my ability." I asked them nicely but with a well-practiced stare I was able to convey the nonverbal.

After the guards left I pulled out my personal Elopesion Crystal and waved it over my patient's body. It began to glow as soon as it went over the abdomen.

'What's going on here?' I moved it back over the stomach and saw the light glow greatly. I wasn't activating the Elopesion Crystal using magic and it was still emitting a blinding light. I moved it from over the stomach and placed the back of my hand against their stomach. To much clothing.

I took off their cheesy armor and placed my hand on their stomach again. Something was moving, something was definitely moving. For the Elopesion Crystal to glow so bright and for something to be moving inside of him there had to be one thing going on. Monster ingestion.

I searched the man's body for any tools that could've been used to caused this. A bottle that looked as if it were made for drinking was filled with green slime and was carried on the side of the man's waistband. It was disgusting! Why would he keep this thing in here! I removed it with gloves and looked at it for a few seconds. Fresh slime that still contained monster energy was most likely dranken by this person. What an idiot.

There stomach was moving weirdly and the person, who was still unconscious, was for some reason still breathing. How is this man still alive even after ingesting a living monster. Very peculiar indeed, I started writing down this information in a notepad so I could keep track of what I was going to use to increase my status in the future. After writing it down I decided I should begin curing this weird person.

I thought for a moment...Paralysis. The monster inside of him is a low-level slime so Paralysis casted multiple times should immobilize and eventually kill the creature. After coming up with my plan I decided to execute it. I waved my hands around and started chanting.

"Paralysis!!"

The spell was very effective and the slime was paralyzed completely. After checking the body a few more times I recognized the person also suffered from the paralysis. 'Isn't he have a Hunter Rank of 5. A low-level paralysis spell like that shouldn't have any effect on him.' I was very upset that I had to waste my magic on such a weak person but I needed to do what I needed to do to increase my status.

I stepped out of the room for a bit to rid my self of that weird person's weird atmosphere. I guess there's no other way to describe it. Before I went to go cast a few cleansing spells on myself, I grabbed that bottle of slime to further examine it. 'Why would he put slime in here? Must've been difficult?' I couldn't come up with a reason for the man's actions and considering how smart I am then probably no one else could either.

After a few hours I returned to see that the man was still asleep. It was getting dark outside so I decided to go take a nap in my luxurious bedroom located in the most concealed part of my mansion. I'll check on this person in the morning...
