Chapter 2: Magic

For a week after he joined, Inari hung around the guild, getting to know everyone, and getting used to them. Since she was the first person he saw after waking up, Inari was constantly with Erza. From what he could see and hear, she had a tragic past, but nobody was clear on the specifics. Thus, the two of them became friends through their tragic pasts. Or at least what they thought was a tragic past, since Inari couldn't exactly remember, so they just assumed.

"Inari, do you know any magic?" Erza

Inari immediately became gloomy.

"I don't. Ironic, I'm in a magic guild but don't know magic." Inari

Erza laughed. Inari glared at her in dismay, thinking she was mocking him. She stopped laughing, yet still seemed amused.

"What do you mean? It's not like everyone joins the guild a powerful mage. I'm still a novice, who barely knows sword magic. Take your time, there's no rush. Before you start though, go see the master. He will be able to help." Erza

Inari frowned slightly. What she said was reasonable, but he still felt like he was missing something. 'Anyway, that's for later', he thought. 'Maybe I will go see the master, he must be able to help.'

Inari and Erza hung out in the forest for training. Mostly training Erza. The two of them would take straightened sticks and spar as if they were swords, with Erza winning every time. Slowly a month passed, when Inari finally went to Master Makarov about his magic.

"Master, I want to learn magic. Erza said I should come to you first because you can give me advice. What magic should I use?" Inari

Makarov searched his face, stroking his own beard. Sighing, he remembered what happened when he used memory magic on Inari. He beckoned him over, leading him to an empty room in the guild.

"Inari, when I used magic on you, I found out that you are suited for a fusion of fire and lightning magic. However, I don't know any such magic. What I want you to do, for the next week, is to meditate and try to find the magic container in your body. Since it's built for a specific type of magic, maybe there will be some inspiration on how to use it." Makarov

Inari was excited. He might have a rare magic, he might be awesome. nodding to Makarov, he sat in a lotus position and started trying to feel the magic inside. He felt the master's finger on his forehead before something warm flowed into him. Just as quickly as it started, it stopped, however it was enough. He could feel it going somewhere, he just tried to trace it.

Meanwhile, Makarov was watching in astonishment as Inari burst into flames again. This time he stayed conscious, but seemed to be concentrating, so Makarov left it alone. He knew they wouldn't harm Inari, so he could feel relieved.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For a week, Inari was isolated with the help of the master. Finally, on the morning of the seventh day, he found his magic container. He was ecstatic when he succeeded, immediately running to the master to tell him the good news.

"Master, I've done it! I found the container. I tested it twice just to make sure. It works!" Inari

Inari danced with joy. Erza happened to be there at that moment, and after knowing he had succeeded after a week of hard work, she congratulated him warmly. Inari calmed down, a slight blush on his cheeks from embarrassment.

"Well done Inari. So, any clues as to what magic you might use?" Makarov

Here, Inari frowned. He hesitated for a while before shaking his head.

"No, master. I tried as hard as I could, but I could only connect. It takes time as well, but once I connect I can directly control the flames and lightning separately. Maybe I can't use them together." Inari

He looked defeated. Makarov, however, nodded. If it was that easy, the magic wouldn't be rare.

"Inari, it won't be easy. Take heart in the fact that it's only been a week since you started. i have an idea. Go with Erza on one of the lowest class missions, so you can get used to magic in a controlled environment. Erza!" Makarov

Makarov called Erza over and told her the details of the quest. He also asked her to look after Inari and allow him to practice his magic during the mission.

Inari looked embarrassed to be relying on Erza, but he knew she was strong.

"I will do my best master. Inari, shall we? You can buy me some cake as thanks when we get back." Erza

She smiled at Inari who turned tomato red. Whispering under his breath, so that Erza didn't hear, he said 'Like a date'. Unbeknownst to him, Makarov had heard, and was inwardly laughing while encouraging his 'kids' to have fun.

After preparing, Inari and Erza set off to clear out some critters in a nearby cave, Erza with her sword and Inari with his stick.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After an hour of travel, Inari and Erza reached the cave with the critters. As a monthly mission, the reward and difficulty was low, so it was ideal for training kids in Fairy Tail.

"We're here. I heard a bit of what you said. Do you want to take this time to activate your magic before we go in?" Erza

Inari said no, since he could do it while walking. Thus, together they stepped into the critter cave, expecting an easy mission.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

Much less than the first chapter because I felt that only one chapter out sucks. Therefore, ta-da.

If I get around to it, you can expect maybe 1 chapter a day, bonus if I have time. Just don't expect epics of 2000 words. These will be between 800-1500 depending on what I think of, and what ideas I get.
