Chapter 75: Nam's Match
Kalan's group met Yamcha, Puar and Oolong. Yamcha had also come to participate in the WMA tournament, Puar and Oolong was here to cheer on Yamcha.
"Kalan! Bulma! You're both here!" Yamcha said happily.
"How could I miss it when Kalan's going to win!" Bulma said confidently.
"It seems like I'll be the runner up." Yamcha said. He had trained alone in the wilderness, but he knew he was a far cry from Kalan's strength.
"Well... The runner up position might be difficult to attain this time, my student Nam is pretty strong too." Kalan said and introduced his dojo members.
The group chatted for awhile before the preliminaries began. Kalan, Nam, Yamcha and some of the dojo members hurried over to the preliminaries ground.
"Go, Kalan! Beat them all up!" Bulma cheered and waved her fist excitedly.
Kalan smiled in response and entered the preliminaries, unfortunately the audience were not allowed inside.
Everyone in the preliminaries recognized Kalan as the last WMA's champion and looked seriously at Kalan. Like last WMA, the participants were divided among 4 blocks. Some of Kalan's opponent decided to forfeit before the fight, they weren't confident at all. Kalan swept past the preliminaries with ease. On his final match, he met Bacterian.
"Shit, how unlucky am I?" Kalan muttered while wrapped inside his invisible Ki barrier to avoid the stench. Bacterian was a giant man who stunk severely, even the preliminaries participants spectating the battle stood far away. Bacterian's attack was simply using the filth and stench to defeat his opponent, very dishonorable.
"Ha!" Kalan immediately ended the fight with a Kiai, he put his palm facing Bacterian and sent a shockwave to blow him away.
*Bang* Bacterian was sent flying, crashed past the walls and flung far away into the distance.
"...Winner Kalan!" The referee announced after being stunned for awhile.
Kalan saw Krillin and Goku in the preliminaries, Krilin was at first bullied by two monks from Orin Temple. He then met one of them in a match and defeated him with a kick, shocking his companion into running away.
"Kalan!" Goku saw Kalan and ran up to him.
"Kakarot, long time no see!" Kalan greeted.
"This is Kalan? The last WMA's champion!" Krillin exclaimed upon seeing Kalan. Krillin and Goku both studied under Master Roshi and were fellow students so he followed along Goku when he ran up to Kalan.
The preliminaries ended and the final 8 gathered to draw lots. The 8 people were Kalan, Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, Nam, Jackie Chun, Ranfan and Giran. Kalan knew that Jackie Chun was Master Roshi in disguise, it was unknown if he were here in order to beat his students so they would believe there were always someone stronger and strive harder in the path of martial arts. Or in order to put Kalan down after his arrogance in Mt. Frypan.
The lots were drawn and the matched decided.
First match: Jackie Chun vs Nam.
Second match: Goku vs Giran.
Third match: Kalan vs Ranfan.
Fourth match: Yamcha vs Krillin.
"I seem to have great luck to be matched with that cute girl." Kalan thought as he saw Ranfan wink at him.
"Hey, hey! What about lunch?!" Goku pulled at the announcer's clothes and asked.
"Are you sure you want to eat right before you fight?" The announcer asked dumbfounded.
"Yeah!" Goku nodded. Kalan also walked up as he wanted too eat as well.
"I guess you're eating before a fight again too, huh? Is it a thing among boys with tails...?" The announcer said. Kalan also ate before a fight in the last WMA. The announcer looked bewildered at the two boys with tails.
While Kalan and Goku were eating, the first match started. Jackie Chun and Nam looked dumbly at the two eating before entering the stage.
The match started with Nam landing a few blows on Jackie Chun, downing him in an instant. But as usual he waited honorably for Jackie Chun to get up instead of knocking him out.
"Kalan's dojo? It did not expect his student to be this strong." Jackie Chun exclaimed while getting up, he could see Nam wearing Kalan's dojo dougi. He had not expected someone else than Kalan being so strong and had let down his guard.
The two clashed again and were evenly matched, both sending a barrage of kicks and punches at each other. The announcer jumped around excitedly and commentated.
Kalan and Goku had finished their meals and came to spectate the fight.
"Wow! Those two are so strong!" Goku exclaimed.
"What the heck..." Kalan said in exasperation, he could tell that Nam was fighting with a battle power below 200. It could only mean he was dumbly wearing his weighted clothes again.
The fight continued and Jackie Chun gained the upper hand with his experience, he landed several minor blows which slowly stacked up. Nam foolishly tried his best to defend.
"Nam, you idiot! Why are you wearing those clothes?!" Kalan upon seeing Nam's situation worsen and yet foolishly defend, shouted out.
"Ah?" Nam turned around upon hearing Kalan shout. But Jackie Chun wasn't as honorable as him and continued his attack and punched Nam in the face, sending him flying to the wall.
"Oops, my hand slipped." Jackie Chun shamelessly said with a foolish grin while sticking out his tongue.
Nam stood up and quickly took of his weighted clothes, leaving him in only underwear. Some of the audience even thought he was going to strip naked.
Kalan threw him a pair of dougi he had quickly materialized so he would not embarrass himself.
This time Jackie Chun gave Nam the time to dress.
"Weighted clothes?! I did not expect you to be even stronger than I had believed." Jackie Chun said seriously.
The fight continued, Jackie Chun had immediately used Pump Up to empower himself, his muscles enlarged so much he had to take of his shirt.
Jackie Chun had a small advantage even though his battle power was still below Nam's. The fight was the longest seen, the sun could be seen setting.
Nam was covered in injuries while Jackie Chun only had a few bruises. Both were panting tiredly.
"I'll have to show my secret technique then. Otherwise I'll run out of stamina before you." Jackie Chun said. He breathed in deeply and in the position used for Kamehameha.
"Oh... I forgot, I only taught Nam the basics... Even though his battle power is over 200, he doesn't know how to make energy attacks nor fly..." Kalan clapped his head and thought.
"Ka... Me.... Ha... Me.... HA!" Jackie Chun shouted and launched a Kamehameha at Nam.
"What is this?!" Nam exclaimed as he was sent flying out the stage.
"Amazing!! The only one able to do the Kamehameha is Master Roshi, but now, we just saw another person do it before our eyes!" The announcer shouted excitedly.
Yamcha, Krillin and Goku all exclaimed in shock.
"Winner Jackie Chun!" The announcer announced.
Nam stood up, but wasn't really injured by the Kamehameha and just sent flying out of the stage. It seems that Master Roshi had control over his Kamehameha.
"So strong... Kalan if your student is already so strong... How strong are you?" Yamcha asked, still stunned from the battle. They had fought is such high speed, he could only see small parts of the battle.
"Ah? That Nam guy is your student, Kalan?" Goku asked shocked. Krillin also had a shocked face.
"Yeah, he's the head instructor of my dojo." Kalan said calmly.
"Kalan, can I join your dojo?" Yamcha asked, he did not have the luck of studying under Master Roshi. Although he suspected Jackie Chun to possibly be Master Roshi from his display of Kamehameha and his perverted actions. If Nam was already so strong, how strong would Kalan be?
"Sure, but Nam will be the one instructing you." Kalan said. He did not mind getting Yamcha to join his dojo, he lacked instructors. His over 50 dojo members weren't talented, their battle power was ranging from 5-50 even after 2 years of training the martial arts Kalan had learned from Kami. It was the most exquisite martial art on Earth. He knew that the Z fighters were very talented when compared to the rest of the Earthlings.
