Chapter 3: Starview Forest

Though his body was completely healed Lake continued to stay unconscious, his body was emitting a mysterious aura that drove the evo beasts away. It seemed like they were afraid of it.

It wasn't until the next day that he awoke. Slowly opening his eyes Lake stood up in a daze.

Looking around he asked himself, "Where the hell am I? What happened?" Unsure of where he was he tried finding signs of humans but to no avail, he only saw a corpse sitting quietly next to him.

"Isn't this a Blood Hyena? Why is it dead here?", Lake paled at the thought that this creature died so close to him. But what could've killed an evo beast so thoroughly?

He quickly took a look around and after confirming there was nothing around him slowly made his way through the forest. But his mind was still thinking about why he was here.

"I was just at school, so how did I end up here?" Thinking up to here Lake's eyes narrowed and anger rushed up from his heart.

"That bastard..." His teeth were clenched as he thought about being beaten by Gregory and his goons.

"Eh? I thought they knocked me unconscious, where are the injuries?" Feeling his body he could not find a painful spot anywhere. Knowing the strength of those kids he felt that it was strange to not have any injuries on his body.

At first he was doubtful but soon just accepted what he saw. His first priority should be to find his way back to Itor City.

Taking the time to analyze his surroundings he discovered that he was in Starview Forest, outside of the city. Lake's nerves were taut as he knew that evo beasts could show up at any moment and attack him. For the current him it'd just mean death.

Quietly he climbed to the highest tree he could find to observe the area, and from afar he noticed a trail within the forest.

"That's about 50 meters from here. If I move quickly I can make it before any evo beasts spot me." He quickly checked his stats before moving out.

Lake Halma

-----------------------------

Ability - None

[Physical Fitness] - 70

[Mental Prowess] - 80

[Energy Capacity] - 100

[Evo Styles] - Quick Feet, Hardened Fists

-----------------------------

Lake exceptional stats for his age, even in the larger scope of the world he was an anomaly in his age group. Just relying on himself he raised his stats to be beyond most of his peers, especially his energy capacity, it even exceeded some of the older students!

To say he wasn't a talented student would be blasphemous, but Lake knew that he needed to put in incredible amounts of effort to make up for his lack of an ability.

He had even mastered two different evo styles, even if they were the most basic kinds they were still a great challenge to master. This was a testament to his incredible comprehension.

Yet he still couldn't hold a candle to those who had awakened their abilities. Flame Coat for example, just being able to coat ones self in fire already limits Lakes avenues of attacking, and it was only a 3 Star ability. For those with higher grade abilities, Lake wouldn't even be able to touch their clothes.

While running towards the trail Lake thought, "Something isn't right. I've been running for a while now yet I haven't even seen a sign of any beasts."

Feeling that the situation was odd he stopped and looked around yet couldn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Unknown to him was that his eyes were faintly glowing. In reality he was surrounded by evo beasts, it was just that wherever he looked the beasts became frightened and hid before he saw them.

Moving more cautiously than before it took Lake a few more minutes to get to the trail.

Looking for the trail was the hard part, now that he had made it he knew which direction to go in to reach the city. Following the trail it only took him around 10 minutes to the see the gates.

Soon enough he reached the city gates and was about to enter when...

"Halt! State your name and your order of business!"

The guards defending the gate had stopped Lake as they saw him as an outsider but when they noticed he was a boy they relaxed.

"Hey kid! What are you doing out in the forest? Don't you know how dangerous it is out there?" Assuming that one of the guards let Lake out earlier he didn't question how Lake was outside.

"Yeah, sorry. I just got excited and wanted to go explore the forest." Lake replied sheepishly while scratching his head.

"Alright well show me your ID and you can be on your way."

Nodding Lake took out his ID and showed the guard, after it was confirmed that Lake was a resident of the city they let him enter.

Looking around he finally relaxed, during the whole journey back Lake was anxious to return.

After that little episode Lake headed home exhausted.

Entering his house he found his mother sitting at the table asleep. He knew that she had worked another late shift. His mother was the reason he could increase his stats so quickly. She worked often to afford him the resources he needed for training.

Grabbing a blanket from the closet he brought it over and covered his mother in it. Looking at his mother so tired a fierce determination was burning in his heart. Kissing her head he turned and went to bed.
