Chapter 12: Thanking Mo Rui Han
"Hello, Senior Mo. I'm Liu Xing Yu."
Xing Yu gave Mo Rui Han a bright smile as she bowed to him respectfully. Seeing this, Mo Rui Han's heart sped up slightly as he struggled to control the urge to embrace her.
He had been searching for her for so long that the feat was almost impossible. But Mo Rui Han was a man of great control, so he simply nodded and gave her a slight smile.
"Mo Rui Han." He introduced, and Xing Yu couldn't help but laugh in amusement.
At this, he cocked an eyebrow and Xing Yu immediately explained herself.
"Of course I know who you are," she laughed, and it was like music to Mo Rui Han's ears.
"Did you need something?" He asked her, and though both the words and his way of saying them were very curt, Xing Yu could tell from his tone that he wasn't trying to chase her away. He was genuinely asking.
"Ah, that..." She started, not sure how exactly to say it. "I wanted to thank you."
She looked at him again and scanned his face, trying to gauge his response. He was even better than her at maintaining a poker face though! He didn't say anything, and only gazed at her expectantly, waiting for her to continue speaking. So Xing Yu just charged forward and said what was on her mind.
"For helping me get the lead role." She said. She gave him meaningful look.
"..." Mo Rui Han was surprised. He didn't expect her to be able to figure it out. However, he wasn't bothered as he hadn't been particularly interested in hiding it from her. He simply didn't want others to know, as they would assume the worst and think lowly of her. Xing Yu finding out was actually a pleasant surprise.
Mo Rui Han was very pleased and loved how sharp Xing Yu's thinking was. But most importantly, that led her to approach him first!
"No problem," he said, giving her one of his rare smiles. It wasn't one that stretched across his entire face, Nor was it one that seemed cold and insincere. It was the faintest and subtlest of smiles, and fit his personality well; simple, not calling for attention, yet attracting gazes anyway.
Xing Yu's heart stopped for a bit.
"..." This man was too good-looking for his own good! It was normally important for those in their profession to be photogenic, but this man looked even better in real life!
She returned the smile quickly, albeit still a little surprise by his friendliness. Although he was still extremely passive, she had heard rumours about how cold he was, like he had a wall around him. Everyone knew that Mo Rui Han didn't like talking to other people on set, and if he did, he was always very aloof! Yet she was pleasantly surprised by how the man had given her a heart-stopping grin.
Seeing as he hadn't denied her statement, she got a little more bold.
"Why..." she asked, cocking her head curiously. "Why did you help me?"
The man didn't reply for awhile, and his eyes narrowed as if he were thinking of what to reply. Xing Yu was starting to get used to the pauses, and waited in ease.
"Because she's bad at acting," he said simply. "And you're good."
The way he said it was as if he were declaring a fact, leaving no room for argument. Although Xing Yu still felt like there was something more... well who was she to say that he was lying? She wasn't him, so she wouldn't know the truth.
Xing Yu decided to just take things at face value. She was extremely honoured to hear that from him.
"Well, then... um... thank you." She said. She wasn't one to be at a loss for words. But she truly didn't know what else she could say.
Although she had been wilful in front of Xia Ting and those in StarTime, she knew that there was only so much she could do alone.
She was confident in her abilities and sharp thinking, and knew that with enough time, she'd be able to climb her way to the top. Even if she lost her tiny role from before, she was sure that sooner or later she would be able to nab another. This industry wasn't only filled with those who simply wanted to make money and brown-nose their way through after all.
But she had to admit that it would've taken her much longer. She had spent 5 years already to get to this point and it might've taken her a good few years more.
But in one day, Mo Rui Han had brought her up to speed by at least 3 years!
Xing Yu could easily guess that he had invested in the production to help sway the tides. Even if he only did it because he wanted a good actress alongside him, or because he wanted his investments to be worth it, it had helped her monumentally.
"You don't have to thank me, you deserve it." He replied firmly, looking at her seriously.
"Still, I feel like I have to do something. It might not have been difficult for you, but this alone has helped me tremendously..." Xing Yu didn't want to owe anyone, even more so when she genuinely felt gratitude towards them. She was always someone who was ten times nicer to whoever had been nice to her first.
"Then..." Mo Rui Han had an eager spark in his eyes, although the rest of his face didn't let on. His fingers were sliding over his chin, and he looked like he was thinking hard.
In truth, he didn't need to think at all! He had been aiming for this all along, and now that he had the chance to make it happen so soon, he was going to take it.
"How about you keep me company for a meal?"
Xing Yu raised her eyebrows in surprise. He was asking her out for a meal? However, she really was grateful, so she naturally accepted.
Having been in show business, she was used to being asked out for "meals". She hadn't gone even once in all her years as an actress, no matter who had asked, but in this case, she felt that Mo Rui Han wasn't a sleazy kind of person.
With his chiselled features and pristine background, he had women throwing themselves at his feet. He didn't need to do anyone any favours to get them to sleep with him, so Xing Yu felt comfortable accepting.
Hearing her agree, Mo Rui Han smiled at her for the second time during their conversation.
"Good. Would dinner tomorrow be convenient for you?"
"Yup!" Xing Yu chirped in response. Seeing as there was no other reason to stay around, she bid farewell and left the set.
Today had been an amazing day for her, and she was going to relax at home and recharge so that she could begin preparing for her new role!

Slightly further away, two people peeked at the couple, with very different feelings.
Lu Man had a hard time picking his jaw off the floor.
"..." He didn't know whether to laugh or throw up, and he regretted not taking photos to show Auntie Mo.
That gloomy fellow had actually smiled at the woman not once, but twice!
Oi oi Mo Rui Han! If you keep smiling like that your face is going to fall off!
Seeing his friend's unfamiliar appearance made Lu Man shudder, and he shifted his gaze to Xing Yu appraisingly.
Suddenly, he grinned playfully, and searched for Liu Xing Yu on Weibo.
Although she didn't have any big films under her belt, she had trended because of her beauty in the past, and had a decent following of 100k people.
Lu Man happily clicked on the follow button. He was going to get closer to his potential Big Boss!
Elsewhere, another pair of eyes was glaring at Xing Yu with resentment.
Xia Ting clenched the fabric of her dress, her nails digging into the silk.
Liu Xing Yu...
Not only had she stolen her role, the hussy was happily chatting with a man like Mo Rui Han! Of course, he was a successful, good-looking man, and Xia Ting had made a few advances and him, only for him to turn her down coldheartedly! Yet he was actually smiling and talking to her? Why was it that hussy!
She was trembling with jealousy. While Xia Ting had always disliked Xing Yu, but it was never anything deeper. However, today... a deep hatred began to harbour in her heart!
