Chapter 1: Dreams
Two sets of small shallow footprints led away from the barony of Gray, following a pair of footprints into the serene forest of Lillieth.
The perfect velvety black night sky uncontrollably covered by millions of brilliant small suns just drew the eye heaven bound. The scenery of seeing star, after star, after star, a never-ending void with brilliant dots projected on it, left nothing, no meaning, stealing the thoughts, leaving nothing but awe to the two children lying on the cold ground.
Not far away from the two lying children, a man no more than 20 could be seen swinging a large wooden stick, the rhythmic sound of a wooden stick hitting a solid tree trunk resounding through-out Lillieth forest.
After listening to the rhythmic sound and gazing at the stars, the young boy turned his head to face the other child, her long silver hair messily lay along her face, strewn along the ground.
"Ali, I really envy those that can read and use the stars." His eyes filled with curiosity and admiration.
"Hmm, Shi, I like them because they are really pretty against the night sky, are they really useful?" Ali turned her head, giving an inquisitive look, her brilliant grey eyes showing a hint of questioning.
Giggling, Shiloh looked at his adorable naïve innocent twin sister. "Of course, they are silly. The complicated configurations and patterns of light among the stars and the guidance they give. Uncle Cross says that they are used for a lot more… but I don't know anything else, for now."
Ali's face grew serious. "I heard once from Uncle Krister those people are called gazers, only special people can be gazers. I just want to be a knight, saving people, valiant and brave."
Shiloh perked himself up, bringing his hand over towards Ali raising his pinky finger "Pinky promise, you'll become a knight and I will become a strong gazer".
Ali clutched her stomach and laughed uncontrollably, her stomach started to hurt from laughing so hard. Shiloh looked on dumbfounded at his little sister with his pinky still in the air. As time passed, she slowly stopped laughing, looked at Shiloh and told him, "Silly brother, we can't do that. You have a better chance of becoming a gazer than I do of becoming a knight. first I need to be a boy; even then step-mother wants me going to an academy to learn how to become a proper lady when I am older…."
After pausing for a while, she continued, "Besides, you're a boy, all you need is a little luck to become a gazer; I need to become a whole new gender if I want to become a knight."
"Who cares! I will find a way to make our dreams come true then, one way or another", Shiloh said in a serious tone, his eyes shining with hope.
"Alright, we'll do as you say Shi, remember you promised me you'll find a way", Ali said in an upbeat manner with a fake smile on her face, but her despairing eyes betrayed her.
'T'chi', the twang sound of an arrow being released, and a whistling sound suddenly appeared among the discussion of the two children and rhythmic hits against a tree trunk.
