Chapter 28: Assassination
Lu Kei, the guard that Zhou Zhu's maid called to kill Yan Yun was originally going to play with Yan Yun for a while and then kill her but after hearing that some people tried to kill her and failed he decided to not do that.
He reasoned that the Yan family would protect her if she got back to the Yan family manor. So he decided to just kill her on her way back to the manor, he would just have to play with others that go after the mayor. The mayor was just too handsome.
Lu Kei was at Soul Refining stage 6, while Yan Yun was at Body Refining stage 9, he could have killed her outright but that would ruin his reputation and the mayors, he would be killed for that. So he decided to follow her around until he got the perfect opportunity to kill her. And he found the perfect opportunity, it was dusk and there were crowds of people everywhere. He would kill her and no one would notice him in a crowd of people.
When Lu Kei was near Yan Yun he quickly drew his blade and sneak attacked her. He fully anticipated when she would die when he heard a sound.
"Ding!"
"It's not nice to sneak attack people you know?" A voice rang out after the sound.
His sword met another sword. He was really surprised, he did not leak any killing intent since he had done this countless times but someone found him?
That sword was, of course, An Cheng's sword and voice. An Cheng had noticed Lu Kei long ago but just did not react, if he did not kill Lu Kei if An Cheng attacked, he would get away. An Cheng waited for the perfect moment to block and attack back. It was the perfect time to test his cultivation after he devoured the Spirit Stones.

An Cheng slashed at Lu Kei right after blocking, catching the surprised Lu Kei off guard. The slash hit Lui Kei on his right arm at it got cut off.
"Ahhhh." A heart-wrenching scream came out of Lu Kei's mouth as his arm got cut off. Blood was spraying everywhere, even some of the nearby shoppers got it all over their bodies. An Cheng quickly tried to slash at Lu Kei's neck to kill him off, but Lu Kei disappeared.
Lu Kei, after getting his arm cut off knew that the next strike would kill him so he quickly activated the talisman that the mayor gave him for his service.
That all happened in a flash so the people around him did not catch a glimpse of him. An Cheng and the three girls knew that they caused a commotion so they quickly disappeared like a ghost.
After regrouping in a remote spot in the corner of the city An Cheng asked Yan Yun "Who was that?" He had seen intense hatred in the eyes of Yan Yun when she saw Lu Kei for a split second.
"One of the mayor's guards." She answered in a cold voice, she did not tell them all of the truth, Lu Kei was the guard that had the duty to kill people that went after the mayor, but he did something extra too.
An Cheng still seeing that Yan Yun did not reveal everything just let it go, he was hired to protect her not be her best friend. Lucy had a consoling expression on her face as she looked at Yan Yun but did not say anything. As for White Lotus, she was still an iceblock, what did you expect?
Yan Yun led the trio back to her family's manor and they followed silently. They followed all the way back to the doorstep where they parted. The trio was hired to protect in secret, how were they going to explain when they were spotted next to her. They camped outside the manor for the night just in case there was another attempt at Yan Yun's life.
It was a cold and quiet night.
