Chapter 3: On her way to meet the masters
In the entirety of the ride, Narae remained quiet. She was afraid. Fear was the only that was keeping her from jumping out of a running car.
Van noticed her fidgeting in nervousness, no, fear. He had seen a lot of these in his 3 years in guarding vampires. And he always pitied those that were chosen. So, he touched her hands that were just resting on her lap which made her almost jump out of fright.
Gee, she's really afraid, he thought. If she's already like this with me, what would happen if she meets the boys? He asked himself.
"Hey, don't be afraid. You're going to a more carefree place. And the people there won't kill you," St. Van said, showing her a sincere smile to assure her. Well, they'll bite but they won't kill you unless you kill yourself, he added to himself.
"B-But no tribute has ever returned alive," Narae said.
"It's because they're given freedom after their service, "Van explained. "Now, don't be too nervous. You're safe. Now, stop fidgeting, I can't sleep. We still have 2 more hours before we arrive at the mansion."
She only nodded and tried to focus her gaze outside the car window.
What will the place be like?
Who will be her master or mistress? Will they be nice?
Narae closed her eyes, hoping for the best of her fate.
