Chapter 9: Freedom
Again? You have been the bane of my existence in this Colosseum why won't you just die?! Mia screamed in her thoughts
Time and time again she was humiliated and each time it was more humiliating than the previous one.
Blinded by her rage, she kept on shooting the barrage of arrows and it seemed as if the rain of arrows would cover the skies above. There's also poison within each of these arrows and used alongside the technique, Perfect Aim which shoots 100% accurately.
Among all of these arrows, none managed to harm Arthur's body in the slightest, always falling down right in front of him.
Mia didn't give up though. She kept on shooting her barrage of arrows without rest even though her efforts were all in vain.
It was basically a stalemate between both of them.
Arthur couldn't kill Mia because he was unconscious and Mia couldn't kill Arthur because of the aura he was emitting.
Sir Marcus stood up and voiced out his thoughts, "Since that young man was unconscious this entire time, I declare Mia Amir to be the winner of this--" Sir Marcus was interrupted by another unsettling aura.
Joseph was still looking at Arthur and was shocked as he saw another Will, it was the Will of S--, it disappeared as fast as it appeared.
This aura was coming from Arthur, a vibrant lively aura surrounded him shocking the spectators, King Rhast, Mia and even, Sir Marcus. Greenlight enveloped Arthur's body as he managed to wake up and mutter.
Arthur woke up in a daze still emitting the lively aura but the other one wasn't. "Mia? What just... happened?"
The moment Mia felt the aura that threatened her was no longer there only the lively aura remaining. She didn't hesitate and closed in the distance.
"Wind Dash"
Mia thought that Arthur still had his 'hidden injuries' and this was the moment where the aura has dissipated, where Arthur was vulnerable without any backup.
There was a quick swift motion of her dagger towards Arthur's neck. Arthur, who was still dazed, looked at Mia expressionlessly.
"Wisp Movement"
Arthur who was at the ground was struck by Mia but surprisingly only struck air. Arthur then appeared behind her and with a swift strike of his sword, he tried to stab Mia in the back.
"Wind Dash"
Mia reacted extremely quick to Arthur's movements but in doing so she misstepped and fell down on the ground still at an extremely fast speed grazing her entire arm as she cushioned her fall. Blood started to drip from her arm and it was extremely painful.
The pain she was experiencing was a small price for being able to still live. Arthur then turned into a faint figure and left multiple afterimages as he dashed towards Mia.
Trying to keep her cool, she then picked up her bow but because of her injury her aim was off and the ones that managed to hit Arthur were only his afterimages.
Desperation appeared in Mia's eyes as she realized,"This is where I die... huh? That damn brat actually is the one that's gonna kill me... the weakest person manages to kill a one in a thousand year genius, what a joke..." She closes her eyes as she accepts her impending doom.
As Arthur uses his Full Strike Technique and swings his sword, another bright light engulfed the Colosseum. It was Sir Marcus blinding everyone and standing in front of Arthur's sword blocking it with only a hand.
"That is enough... you have proven that you already won! Now stop this!" Sir Marcus' voice was stern as he bends Arthur's sword making it unusable. Arthur then backs off the moment his sword was bent.
Arthur saw Mia's relieved expression and said, "So you are telling me that you are breaking your own rules?"
Sir Marcus' eyebrow twitched as he replied, "Hmph! Back off! You already won the match and have received your freedom what more do you want?"
"What I want? I want to finish this match or..." Arthur prolongs his sentence as Sir Marcus intervenes.
"Or what?"
"Or be given satisfactory compensation..." Arthur wasn't going to back off. Knowing Mia, she would definitely try to kill him again and again until her ego was sated. This satisfactory compensation was for him to get stronger and start off with new life here easier.
"Satisfactory compensation it is! I will give you a Status Orb, 100 iron coins, and a slave." Hearing this, Arthur immediately thought about the exact value of these items. He knew that Status Orbs are extremely helpful as they show your stats. The 100 iron coins were as he expected were within the mid-low range basing his knowledge in isekai novels. And the slave, he wasn't sure with the compensation of a slave as he was just relatively a kid.
He didn't think too much on it as he could just ask Joseph as he also won his part of the tournament. The three final winners were: Arthur Reeve, Joseph Tampus and Clinton Sien.
After the tournament closing ceremony, three remaining people were free men and they were to be sent out tomorrow.
Arthur talked to Joseph about his compensation. Status Orbs cost from 1 Silver Coin up to 10 Crystals depending on its limitation of how high it can record the stats, the higher it can display the more expensive it is. The money system was:
- Bronze – 1 Bronze
- Copper- 100 Bronze
- Iron – 100 Copper
- Silver – 100 Iron
- Gold – 100 Silver
- Crystal – 1000 Gold
Lastly, it was the matter of the slave. Joseph calmed Arthur down as he said that slaves were common, in fact too common in the 6 Realms. Even though it was common to Arthur it was still an inhumane act that should be punished.
The following day, a couple of guards woke up Arthur and told him to follow them. Arthur nodded and followed the guards. He was led into a luxurious room with Sir Marcus sitting in the middle of the room as if he was a king.
"You are finally here... I keep my word! Here are the items!" Sir Marcus beckoned the servants to bring out the items.
Arthur inspected the items and nodded in agreement but was curious as to where was the slave. Arthur then asked Sir Marcus on where the slaved he as promised was. Sir Marcus replied," Oh, that! You may pick your poison from the variety." Sir Marcus then motioned once again and brought out 5 girls completely naked and eyes that were staring into the abyss not minding death, they were full of bruises and cuts that could make one question how they were still alive.
Arthur gasped as he tried to remain calm but seeing others being treated so poorly he was furious but he couldn't show it on his face. He smiled and asked if he could take them all jokingly. But to his surprise Sir Marcus allowed it saying that it was a gift and said that he could just owe him a favor.
A gift?! How can a human being be a gift? What has this world descended into? No one has any more morals regardings such matters! Treating other people as if they were property! Arthur cursed in his head on what Sir Marcus was doing.
A mark was used on the 5 girls' necks showing Arthur's name. This was so that the slaves couldn't run away or defy their master.
Still, Arthur accepted the deal with a furious flame within his heart almost breaking the limit on what he could handle. He then asked for clothes for the girls which the servants did. Arthur returned to his cell where Joseph had just woken up.
Joseph squinted his eyes trying to confirm that Arthur had 5 female slaves behind him. Arthur asked Joseph on where the 5 girls could possibly start over their lives. Joseph understood exactly what had happened when Arthur said those words but the 5 girls remained emotionless and cold.
"I know a place where they could start over and even possibly regain their lives but the cost will not be a small amount around 30 iron coins."
"Thank you, Sir Joseph for helping me in bringing back their lives." Arthur bows in respect for Joseph.
"Anyways, let's head out. It will take about 2 weeks to travel to the destination and after that, we will go to the Adventurer's Guild to register you."
Adventurer's Guild? Arthur didn't expect to see an Adventurer's Guild here. Arthur alongside the girls traveled to get there.
They set up for their trip, Arthur and company walked out the gates of the Colosseum of Guilt. Arthur being here for the first time made him somewhat excited but he still retained his cool.
"Freedom at last!"
