Chapter 2: Chapter 02 - Pursuing Meng Gu
Chen RuoYu met Meng Gu because of her good friend Gao YuLan. Meng Gu's the buddy of Gao YuLan's husband, Yin Ze. On a certain day, Yin Ze and his friend were involved in a fight and went to the hospital where Meng Gu worked, to look for the outpatient doctor to tend their wounds.
Chen RuoYu followed them and met this Dr Meng who regardless of his name or attitude, didn't seem like a doctor at all.
He said that his father's surname was 'Meng' and his mother's surname 'Gu'.. so his name was 'Meng Gu'.
When Chen RuoYu heard this, she had wanted to laugh because a person with the name of *Meng Gu could be a doctor. Combining its, he's called... Meng Gu Doctor.. a doctor with such name, isn't this a tragedy?
[*in Chinese 'Meng Gu' means Mongolian Doctor. In Chinese history, Meng Gu was the wife of Nurhachi, the founder of the Later Jin Dynasty. She was born in 1575 and died tragically in 1603 at the young age of 28 yrs]
The first impression this Mongolian doctor gave Chen RuoYu was..... he's handsome and humorous.
She likes males who're lively and humorous because she's the type that's bold and carefree, a bit on the rough side. So she's not interested in the type of males who're gentle and sensitive.
But she had made a mistake. She couldn't distinguish the difference between someone who's cheerful and humorous.... someone who's thick-skinned and an uncouth mouth.
At that time, she was in a critical period of a woman's life. She was of marriage-able age, she didn't have a boyfriend.. she was struggling alone working in a foreign city and she needed care and love too.
Then when she looked back, she had to admit that sometimes women at this stage of life when she was eager to be satisfied emotionally, it was easy to make mistake. At that time, she was like this.. in this situation.
She had made the mistake of acknowledging his uncouth mouth as humour.. from then on, her life was moulded by her own mistake.
At that time, she had given herself two persons to choose from. One was Yin Ze's good friend, Mr Lei Feng, a policeman who was steady, generous, polite and sincere. The other was the Mongolian doctor, Meng Gu.
Although it was said to be two choices, infact, Chen RuoYu did not fall in love at first sight with either one. It was only that times when she had met two men with good qualities, she only harboured a feeling of hunting in her heart and was indecisive. Its was an ordinary matter for an ordinary person. She admitted that she had many problems too and futhermore, she's only a very common ordinary woman.
In short, Chen RuoYu did not know who she should choose at that particular time. So she made another mistake by asking her friend, Gao YuLan to help ferret information from Yin Ze regarding the two men. She just wanted to know whether they're single, their hobbies, interest, etc. As a very practical modern woman, she thought this would be more secure and after getting the inormation, then she can decide who she'll pursue.
Yes, she does not mind being the one to take the initiative first. She's not a feminist and neither is she a weak woman who obeys without questions. She just wants to be an ordinary woman who can have a good relationship with a man, holds a good job and live a peaceful life.
She strived hard living a full life, worked hard at her job and she didn't mind working hard at taking the initiative to look for a partner.
So after learning that Mr Lei Feng already has a fiancee, Meng Gu naturally became Chen RuoYu targets.
This was the biggest mistakes she made. Mistakes followed by one another one.
She committed the mistakes in believing her first impression of Meng Gu. She was totally unaware of the true nature of this jerk which caused a series of exchanges in future, resulting in misfortunes for her.

Since Yin Ze knew she was interested in two men at the same time, then it would mean Meng Gu would also knows. Therefore, Meng Gu used this matter to ridicule her.
Her biggest mistake was that she had settle the wrong target, run into the wrong direction and later when she wanted to retreat, she found out it was too late.
Chen RuoYu looked at the pile of scallions on the chopping board. Then she realized that before she chopped up the scallions, she forgot to wash them. She also remembered that when she brought them, she clearly saw mud sticking to the scallions.
What should she do now?
How sure is it that after eating this dirty food, he'll not be sick? But this's for a sick patient, will it really be alright?
Chen RuoYu hestitated at while. Should I throw all the scallions away? But Meng Gu likes to eat scallions with meat porridge and without the scallions, the porridge will not be fragrant.
Her eye brows knotted and felt irritated. This obviously is a minor problem, why did she hesitated?
Her head felt hot, she took a basin, filled it up with water, then put all the scallions into it. At least, it was considered she had washed the scallions. The scallions floated in the water and the dirt sank right to the bottom.. then she used her hand to scoop up the scallions.

She gave the basin a slap and regretted that she was so obedient.
She was still angry with him and had decided to ignored him but with just a phone call, she rushed to him immediately.
Actually, How did all this happened? She leaned on the tabletop and starred at the pot of porridge on the stove and seriously reflected.
Initially, when she decided to pursue Meng Gu at that time, she had seriously planned for it.
The first step.., of course, was to create a coincidental encounter and then try to get close to him to improve mutual understanding.
The second step was to adapt into his preferences and seize his affection.
The third step was to stabilize the intrusion and consolidate their feelings.
If all goes well, the fourth step was to get a marriage licence, get married and lead a happy peaceful life.
And if it goes a little smoother, the fifth step would be the birth of a child and she'll not have to worry anymore for life's daily necessities.

But Chen RuoYu did not expect that when she made the first step as planned for Meng Gu, she met with a defeats.
Meng Gu was on duty for a day a week in the outpatient clinic and at other times, he was on duty in the hospital wards. In order to pursue him, Chen RuoYu did everythings possible, calculated her timing and pretended to be sick. She registered herself for treatment, then send him flowers and food to express her thanks. She also used her friends, Gao YuLan and Yin Ze's name as an excuse to date him.
She thought she has been very obvious and he must know her meaning but Meng Gu did not accept nor refuse. It seems as if he didn't understand what's happening.. he was innocent and harmless.
That time, Chen RuoYu was foolish as she was not a veteran in this kind of game. Infact, this was the first time, she was going a head-on in pursuing a man, so she was not aware what was going on. Maybe, it was because she expressed herself in the wrong way that he didn't felt it at all. Or perhaps, they're separated by Gao YuLan and Yin Ze's frienships, that he did not think of starting any emotional relationship with her.
In short, at that time, Chen RuoYu was foolish and embrassed. Although, she was a bit shy, a bit reserved and for variety of reasons, she did not dare to express herself clearly to Meng Gu. But after being more frustrated with herself, she became more braver. Everyday, she would think of ways to express herself to Meng Gu until one day, she happened to overheard the nurses' conversations in the hospital.
"You say.., how can that Chen RuoYu be so shameless? Dr Meng had made it clear that he's not interested in her and she still clings to him."
"Based on her qualities, it's not easy for her to find a boyfriend. She's not beautiful, she sells insurance and mentioning this's already so shameful. I think it's because she thought she's familiar with Dr Meng's buddies that made him an easy target. She should take a look at herself first and see whether she can match up with him."
"That's right.. I think Dr Meng likes Nurse Tian. They often talked and laughed with each other."
"It should be.. that day, Nurse Tian had also complained to me about Chen RuoYu, maybe Dr Meng had told her something. Well, I just don't care about gossips, otherwise, I'm sure to talk to Chen RuoYu and tell her not to come anymore. "True.. whatever things that Chen RuoYu gave Meng Gu, he did not keep and given them away to others. I think the bouquet flowers was given to Nurse Tian and those durian candies were all given to the other nurses. If I were Chen RuoYu, I won't even dare to come again."
Chen RuoYu shrank into a corner listening to their endless sympathy and disapproval of her. She really does not have the face to walk pass infront of them. She reached into her bag and held onto the durian candies she had brought earlier. This's her favourite candies and to her, they're expensive. When Meng Gu accepted the candies from her, he had smiled and she thought he liked it too.. but actually, he did not.
Actually, if he didn't, he should tell her straight away. Why didn't he say anything? If he had wanted to give her face, he should have given her some hints, she'll understand. But he had not said anything infront of her and then turned around complaining to others. What's all this about?
Chen RuoYu's mind was blank, felt embarrassed and so humilated that she couldn't move a step. Suddenly she realized the nurses' conversation had stopped and when she looked up, she saw they had walked around the corner of the corridor and was standing right infront of her.
The faces of the nurses were indecisive. It was clear that they did not except the leading lady they gossiped was actually standing and listening nearby. Chen RuoYu's big eyes met theirs for a moment and when the nurses were about to say something, Chen RuoYu gathered her thoughts, looked unhappy and nodded to them and said "Thank you".. then she turned and left.
Thank you?!
Infact, she didn't know why she said so. Anyways, she had thought she'll never see Meng Gu again.
