Chapter 2: The Last day of The Year

On the first day of each year, there happens a strange natural phenomenon. Every 15 year old in the world undergoes a metamorphosis. Their root of eye awakens, enabling them to sense and manipulate mana. Their Appendix evolves, enabling them to start cultivating qi. Their soul awakens in their heart, opening them to the spiritual realm. This is a process that everyone experiences. This ceremony officially changes all these youths into adults. They can now interact directly with the higher energies in the world.
Due to the significance of this phenomenon, this day of the year, the 1st January, is celebrated as Awakening Day. On this day these children must choose the life they want to live, whether they want to create a completely new system or to use already existing systems, making the existing systems even better.
Mike was like these teenagers, he would be 15 this Awakening day, and he would be making the most important choice of his life that day.

He was traveling through the village square where preparations were being made for the upcoming village festival. He had woken up late today, by the time he woke up, his parents had already left for their work. His sister was at the school, making his house a bit lonely. Seeing nothing to do at home, he decided to go out.
He was absent mindedly walking through the market when he was jolted out of his thoughts,
"Mike? Mike is that you?"
"Oh Shit!!" Mike mumbled. he heard a familiar sound behind him. Without even glancing back, he sped up. But even before he could have run away, he was stopped by a powerful hand.
"Haha young man! Where are you hurrying to?"
Turning around, Mike saw a hulking man smiling kindly at him, as if he was the kindest person in the world. Realizing he was already in his grasp Mike sighed. It was said in the village, that if this guy ever calls you, you should run away as far as you can. This was because he had gotten his hands on a rather peculiar system, <The Lazy System>. This was a system which helped the host avoid all his work and give it to others. The system is so good with words that you cannot refuse him whatever you do. Today was indeed Mike's bad day.
"Since you are here, why don't you help me with making a stall for the festival. You young guys should help us elders whenever you can. My stall is numbered 11. Can you go and unbox those packages? Don't worry, by the time you finish unpacking I will catch...ahem, 'persuade' someone else to take up the work. Ok bye! Thanks for the help."
Before Mike could have processed the information and reply, the man disappeared in the crowd, despite his big frame. "Most probably he will get someone to manage the shop, then go to sleep like he always does." Mike sighed went to unbox the packages, otherwise, if he doesn't help him, his System would come back and take its revenge like it always does.
After finishing his task, Mike was free again. Remembering the <Lazy System>, he imagined how great that System is. Speaking of Systems, it was one of the most peculiar Systems in the village. Imagine never having to work in your life, someone somewhere will always help you do your work. It was every lazy persons dream.
There were many Systems in the village. The most common System were the various Farming Systems and merchant Systems. The systems like <The Village Head System> and <The Healer System>, the one his mother has were much rarer systems. <Village head System> directly helped one create a village and manage it. The <Doctor System> helped one by giving them all the knowledge and assistance needed to become a doctor, it also teaches them some healing magic, so magical talent was necessary for it.
Then there were some strange Systems in the village like, the <Lazy System>, <Sleeping Beauty System>, which were rarely found in relatively poor areas like a village and the host almost never shared them with youngsters.
<Sleeping Beauty System> is a strange system very popular with rich women. The system simulates mana, while the host is sleeping, to make the host more beautiful. It is believed that, with this Systems help even 60 year old grandma would look like young beauty in her 20s.
Thinking of these strange System, Mike thought about those carefully guarded Systems like, <the King's System> which has been made so advanced over generations that it will make you a king for sure, and possibly an emperor, if you get hands on it. It was a system perfected over many years. It's creator, Sir Bruce Wayne, is revered as a deity. Afterall, there were very few System that guarantee 100% results, and that too of becoming a great king. Thinking of this, 'Sir' was a title given to only those who are able to make a system which guarantees a result. Sir Bruce Wayne's System was so amazing that it was given a title of a forbidden System because it can create chaos if released to secular world, handling too many Kings was not a easy task.
Another great System, whose true name was hidden from public, thus popularly called as the 'World Dominator System', was a great System inherited by the eldest son of the great emperor, generation by generation. It was a ancestral system, created by the ancestor of most powerful dynasty in the world. Most knowledge about this system were from the rumors making it also one of the most mysterious Systems.
One other popular and mysterious system which is rarely encountered in the secular world, is the <Harem Creation System>. This System was so popular, that on the annual poll of ranking of Systems, this system has been winning first position as most desirable system every year since it was released to the world. The creator of this system, Sir Cassen Ova, is a idol of youths across the world. It is believed that he married 115 young maidens at the same time, which included humans, elves, dwarves and even the rare demi humans. The only thing protecting the young maidens heart was that it was a system which can be acquired exactly 3 times every 50 years.
Thinking of all the famous personalities and Systems whom are adored by trillions of people, Mike strengthened his resolve to create a great System. Snapping back from his imagination he started enjoying the cheerful mood for the upcoming festival.
A day before the celebration of the <Day of Awakening>, every place in the world celebrate the <Day of Farewell>. The <Day of Farewell> is popularly celebrated at the last day of the year by the masses. It signifies the farewell to the year going by and the arrival of the next. People in all the places lie awake till midnight, counting the last passing second of the year. Some celebrate the happiness of passing another year happily, Some celebrate the festival with new members in the family, some reminisce the happy and sad moments they had this year, while others recall the last festival when they had another loved one by their side.
The climax of the festival was the holy moment of the year, during which only the people closest to each other would remain together. Some stayed with family, some with lovers, while many introduced their lovers to their families.
There was another truth hidden in this festival. It was named after 'farewell', it not only meant farewell of the year, it also meant farewell between families. Countless youths across the world would soon travel the world to complete their dreams. These youths who dream of the ultimate glory, who want to immortalise their names, will soon leave their loving families, maybe forever, to strive to create a System. Only less than 1 in a 1000 will ever return, that too after a long long time.
This will be, maybe the last time they will ever celebrate the festival with their families, the last clear memories of their families in their minds. But none will say it out loud, no one will say goodbye to their sons and daughters or lovers today. They want to give their children and partners, the best memories of their lives today, how can they ruin it with the pain of goodbyes. If they start saying goodbyes tonight, won't they ruin the atmosphere of the festival. Won't they become embarrassed when... when they will break down in the middle of the festival. Won't their loved ones become sad years later, when they will remember how back then they were unable to hold back their tears. They want their children, their loved ones to remember them smiling, when they look back to this day, every year. Even the strictest of fathers will smile and praise their sons today, because no one knows if they will ever get a chance to praise them again.
This is a festival of bonding and happiness. this is a festival of eternal separation and hidden sadness. This is the festival of human emotion.
With loud and bright fireworks, the Festival, the day and the year ended.

Trivia Fact: There are 5 great festival in the world of Ammil. 3 of them are centered around the <Day of Awakening>, one is the <Day of Creation>, and the last one is the <Day of Celebration>.
