It was past lunch time when I finally made it to Jerry's house. As instructed by Selina I had already called both her and Jerry to let them know about my arrival before parking. This whole running and stealing was like a fool's errand to me. Still the most exciting part of today would be that, I should admit. The envelope I took from Selina's apartment was in my bag. There was a risk with keeping it with me as Jane used to search my bag whenever she could. As much as I wanted to keep it calm and quiet, the situation wasn't really helping me keep that up.
-Problem with the car?
-Whoah!! Jerry? Hi.
-Hi. What's wrong?
-Just, I was having a hard time parking.
-I think it's good enough. Go easy with the pedal and make the turn really tight to align her first. Have one foot ready on the break.
-Yeah.
-Let's go. Never liked underground garages.
-Right. I know.
.
.
-So, how did it go?
-Huh? What is it?
-Uhh, you being called by your Dad to get home and my guess? Exhausting lectures.
-Hmm; you said it. Exhausting. I should've told them about the night. Anyway, I am sorry for running away like that. What's she doing? Must be mad at me.
-Well, she may be now.
-(Sighs) I messed up. Believe me, it was hard for me enough. When I got up in the morning, my routine was pretty clear. Spend the day with Jane, with you guys.
-Hey, it's okay. We all sometimes end up having to deal with unexpected turns of events. I am just glad you made it here at the end.
-...,-That was the lie I told him. About my parent's asking me to come home.
-Mr and Mrs Roy wouldn't have any worries if you had let me call them earlier.
-Forget them now. I will call them later today. That should make them shut up for tonight.
-Want me to do it? Talking?
-No; I'll be okay.
-Hmm. Just, if things get out of hand I'll be there.
I am not a saint. To get ourselves blended into this side of the world properly, my father had to go through many hardships and sacrifices. I was around sixteen when he had to go away for work and leave us here. Mother and me were to have ourselves habituated in a completely new life alone. Schools and colleges were hard to get in. But the support of both Mom and Dad made me what I am today. And even now telling a single lie which involves them feels like a blunder. A typical story, a part of my life.
-Thanks Jerry...I, hey?! What are you,- I couldn't finish. There was his hand over my lips out of nowhere. It could very likely be a prank, specially today was supposed to be fun and stuffs. But the look over his face wasn't giving away any funny vibes. I knew him all too well.
-Two guys. Armed; after you. Haven't made us. Yet.
-(Panting rapidly),- I started to panic, my voice got muffled.
-Layla! Hey? Count to 10.
-1...2...3...
Thanks for reading. I have done some sketches of the characters, how they could look with their personalities. Wish I could share here.
