Chapter 8: God of Magic and Blood

From that day forward my new parents always made sure I was hiding the tattoos around my body very well. Since they would help me with that, at night while they were sleeping, I would help change their luck for the next few days. After about five years I was walking around quite well and could speak, my parents were worried if I was hitting my developmental milestones a bit slow. So they took me to a healer of children to check up on me; apparently, it was someone they trusted and was a bit, unique.

My parents carried me to the healers home and yelled to announce that they were coming in. "Flero, we're coming in for our appointment!"

my new dad yelled as he opened the door and walked us in.

"You don't have to yell so loud, just because I'm old and blind doesn't mean I'm deaf too!"

The healer yelled back as he was moving his hands over a book with raised lettering. "Sit him down on the chair over there."

He pointed at the wall. My parents didn't say anything and sat me down in the chair he meant to point to, "My daughter put the chair somewhere else didn't she?" Flero was scratching his head and frowned,

"Yeah, she did."

"Can you guide me to where it is?" Flero asked

"Of course."

My dad grabbed Fleros hand and guided him to the chair,

"So what do you need me to check? He seems healthy from the particles he's giving off; in fact, he should probably try out for one of the magic schools in the town!"

Flero sounded quite excited, although he was utterly blind he could still see magic particles. It gave him an unbelievable edge in battle but those days were long behind him.

My mom gave an excited expression, "We would love to!" My dad looked his wife with a glare, "But we're only here to make sure he's hitting his milestones for development since he didn't try to speak at all till he was five."

My dad still glared at his wife before turning back to Flero; he knew the risks if I was found out. It didn't help that they were poor so the chances were only greater and they would receive an even worse fate than death.

"He is fine, and it's more common than you think, some children speak when they want to. Now back to the magic schools."

Flero stared at my dad even though the direction was a bit off.

"We don't want him to go and although you and my great-great grandfather helped each other and fought together in the war-"

Flero interrupted him, "He has the chains doesn't he Jacob."

My dad sighed, and that was the only answer he was going to give him. Flero looked at me,

"You have the chains, don't you."

Before I answered, I conjured a gold shield to protect my parents although it was a bit weak and unstable from the chains suppressing me. Next, I made some magic circles in Fleros heart to let him know not to make any wrong moves as it would cost him his life; all of this happened in less than a second.

"Yes"

Flero laughed,

"You're quite good for your age! And no I wouldn't even think about killing your parents, I owe their ancestors a life debt for helping me and saving me in the war. I don't even want the reward for getting you into the school, I'm planning on handing it over to your parents. Now let's forget the magic schools in this backward village; I'll take you to the best one I know."

As Flero said this, he held his hands together and shielded my parents with magic particles,

"I don't want your parents to die from the pressure of reigniting my core. If you survive this you have the grounds to join that school, after all, just because you're born with ability doesn't mean you will have an easy life boy."

He lowered one hand while keeping the other in the same position, thousands of Magic circles appeared and encased Flero like a cocoon; within a second it felt as if I was being crushed to death. The long ragged robe that was around me to cover my body was ripped to shreds by the pressure, letting Flero see my body features without the robe using magic particles.

"And a beast Bloodline it looks like! Your parents or their descendants won't have to wish for anything and neither will you!"

Flero yelled out from the cocoon that surrounded him excitedly.

'I want to test the limits of my body although these chains suppress me.'

"Give me all you've got old man!"

Flero smiled, He then stopped controlling how much pressure he puts on me. I got up from the chair and put all my strength into a shield to protect me, A silver and jade colored shield with magic circles floating around on the surface surrounded me protecting me from the pressure. Yet even with the protection, I was still bleeding from my eyes, mouth, and nose.

"Hahaha, good job! That's some high-level magic you casted for your age; I'm impressed!"

The magic circles around him dissipated revealing a man in his 30s with scars all over his body from the war.

"Alright enough messing about; let's go." Flero smiled with a toothy grin

"After I get the reward I'll send it to your parents with some strong bodyguards."

Flero smiled as he opened a portal behind him,

"Don't I need a robe or something for my chains?"

"No, you won't be needing that anymore, now hold my hand. It's been a long time since I've done this."

As he pulled me through the portal I looked back at my parents, they were crying but extremely happy to see their child attend a strong magic school, and even though I wasn't related to them by blood, I would always be their son.

"Goodbye, mom and dad."

When we got out of the portal, there was a lush green courtyard with a man sitting in a chair, drinking his coffee he looked to be in his 50s and was wearing a silk robe,

"Flero! My old friend, how are you!"

Flero smiled, "I'm doing good but, I'm here to get this kid in your school."

I stepped forward and let the man look at me, "Hmm silver hair, gold and jade eyes, a good build for his age, possibly a Bloodline and.... chains...."

Flero spoke up, "This is a friend of mines kid, so you know what that means to me."

"Of course, I just didn't think I'd see one with chains in my lifetime, and even with a Bloodline!"

The man scratched his head with a smile, " I'll make sure the council will give you all it can so you can give it to the family. Oh, and Flero, does he have a name?"

"He doesn't have a name, as far as I know, just give him one from before the war, after all, it sounds better than these newer ones." Flero joked,

"No I don't have a name, my real mother died before she could name me; additionally my step parents never decided to name me." I told him with a solemn expression.

"I'm sorry to hear that if you want we can send some people to investigate it for you and wipe them out."

The man in the robes gave a determined yet sinister smile for a brief second, thinking that he will finally be able to go out and fight as he had done in the war.

"If you can that would be great."

After talking for a while and telling him my true mother's name, her father's, as well as the location, I learned that Fleros friends name was Lera.

"Well now that it's settled let's name you."

After a bit time, letting Lera think he spoke again,

"I think I have the one for you; it's based on the what we believe is the most powerful god since the age of Magic. Jemno the God of Magic and blood, the God gets the name from the time he overfed the planets with his blood giving rise to magic, magic materials, and herbs as well as strong magic beasts. Additionally the vast majority of people love the god. So your name will be Jem since you have a Bloodline and from what Flero told me, you're already pretty good at magic. Sorry if you wanted something different, that is just how some of the old names are made."

Lera shrugged,

"It's okay; my name will be Jem from today forward. Now if you can, please show me around the school while we wait for the council."
