Chapter 2: The Approaching Storm

Calm, strong, and gentle winds roll over the valley, bringing with them a warning to the inhabitants of the land. The cows are the first to respond with their mooing. The hens line up their chicks as they head into the chicken coop. They've had enough time to play. The little girl looks up just as the winds pick up and she sees dark clouds tumbling in the skies as if they are racing to the finish line. The little girl gathers her tools and hurries home.

The little girl runs past the farmer who is driving his tractor back to the garage. The farmer doesn't have time to ask the girl if she wants a lift, she is fast for her size and has already made it to the end of the field.

The farmer's wife is lightly alarmed when the little girl rushes into the farmhouse and studying the little girl's face, the farmer's wife realizes something's coming. She looks outside and can plainly see a storm coming. The farmer's wife goes out to collect the dried laundry she had been procrastinating on gathering and is quite efficient and quick.

The farmer has closed the garage doors and goes out to help the farmhands in bringing the livestock into their respective barns. By now the farmer's wife has finished up her outdoor chores and is talking to the rooster and the hens to make sure all the chickens are inside their coop. The rooster, being the head of the coop, cocks his head up and down to nod that the coop is all accounted for. With a sigh of relief the farmer's wife locks up and heads back the farmhouse where the little girl is waiting.

Inside, the little girl has put another log in the fireplace and in the stove, and has already started boiling water in a kettle for the farmer's wife to use later. The little girl puts the bread dough in the oven and then heads upstairs to her attic room until suppertime comes.

The farmer and the farmhands now finished and covered in sweat and mud, head to the showers before they go to the farmhouse for supper.

The winds have picked up in speed and ferocity by now and have started to rip out a few weak plants and leaves off of trees. The clouds give a low rumble in their tummies, as they begin to ejaculate the water stored inside them. The bigger and darker clouds roar as they clash with each other, creating large sparks of static electricity and often displaying flashes of light that brighten the dark land below for a second or two.

The storm, now in full display of its might, rumbles more in laughter as the inhabitants of the land cower in fright.

It won't be over anytime soon.
