Chapter 6: Fire!
That night, after we had dinner together and prepare to get sleep, a loud bang sound like something hitting our door house followed with the sound of a man calling my father's name
"Brother You! Brother You! Come out quickly!"
My father, who that man called get off from the bed and open the door. In front of the door, there's a man who looks frightened and breathing heavily like just running from far place.
"Is that you, brother Chen?"
It seems my father recognize the man who stands in front of our house. It's an acquaintance of my father in the commercial district.
"Bad news! Bad news brother You!"
The man saying that while still panting and catch his breath.
"Bad news? Calm down brother Chen, tell me what happens for the start"
"No time…your restaurant in fire…you should go there immediately"
"WHAT!"
My father's face suddenly becomes pale, without waiting for us who standing behind him, he runs toward the commercial district. My mother tries to confirm what happened with that man.
"Brother Chen…is that true our restaurant on fire?"
"Yes! I'd run as fast as I could here to inform your husband"
"Oh no…..husband! wait for me!"
And my mother also runs to catch my father to the commercial district, leave me and Mr. Chen alone.
"Uncle Chen…let's go there, I'm afraid something bad happens to my parents"
"Yes...but I can't run faster again. I'm already tired after running from there to here"
I know uncle Chen…just don't let anything bad happen to my parents"
Finally, after close the door, I and uncle Chen go to the commercial district to see the fire and find my parents. When I arrive there, the situation is terrible. What previously my father restaurant already changes into a big bonfire, and people shouting and screaming in chaotic ways. Lines of people carrying buckets full with water trying to extinguish the fire. Luckily, the winds are not blowing hard that night and there's space between my father restaurant and the nearby building, so the fire can be contained in my father restaurant only. Still, the owner of the shop near my father restaurant evacuating their things from their shop, because they afraid if winds suddenly blowing hard and send the fire sparks to their shop.
I'm trying to find where my parents are, and when I find them, I can't hold my tears. I see my father lying on the ground with some burnt wound all over his body. His face becomes black because of smoke and my mother is crying beside my father while hugging him. There's a box within my father's arm.
"Husband…husband…why you so reckless…Don't you love me and your son anymore?"
That's what I'd heard from my mother's mouth between her sob.
After the fire has been extinguished, people start helps my mother to carry my father back home. There's nothing left from my father restaurant, only charcoal that still releasing black smokes.
According from what my mother told me after that, my father is barging into the flaming restaurant to take his kitchen knives set, but when he about to get out from there, a burning log fall from the roof, hit his leg and arms. Fortunately there are people who help him out by dragging him from the fire site. But because of that, one of my father's leg and arm is broken. My mother had to call the doctor to give my father medical treatment.
