Chapter 8: Vampire ‘101’ 1
Rose and Jack were sitting on the sofa facing each other.
"Do you want to hear my story?" Rose asked. Jack nodded.
"How far have your father thought you about vampires?" Rose asked.
"Father said that vampires are creatures of the night. That we hunt them down because they suck the blood of living humans for food." Jack said. "They can't go out in sunlight. They won't die under the sunlight like what the folklore says. The sun's rays just pains and burns them. Some of what the folklore says about them aren't true. Such as garlic or crucifix. They won't die with a stake in their heart. They can only be killed with special weapons. The weapons that are used by hunters. That's how much I know."
"You only know the basics." Rose exclaimed. "Well your still young and learning other information will need your mind to be more mature."
Rose paused for a moment. Jack looked at Rose eager to hear her story.
"Vampires are ancient species. They date even before the 1st record of humanity. At 1st they were classed as predators in the animal kingdom. But when humans emerged, vampires evolved to their image and likeness. They loved the taste of human blood. It gives them unimaginable strength and power."
"As you know vampires prey on humans because you think blood is their primary source of food, right?" Rose asked.
Jack nodded. He was listening eagerly to Rose.
"That's where you are wrong. Vampires also can eat food like humans do. They can also get their nourishment from them." Rose looks at Jack. "Blood is their source of power. They just prefer human blood rather than others because it gives unimaginable power. And well it tastes good" Rose winked jokingly.
"Oookaaaay?" Jack said a little thrown off the topic because that.
Rose giggles. "Okay let's continue."
"But really, it tastes good?" Jack was curious.
"Well think of it as presenting you a freshly roasted meat and a vegetable salad. The aroma and look of the roasted meat will make your mouth water rather than the vegetable salad." Rose explained.
Jack tried to envision Rose's example snd his mouth started to water from thinking of roasted meat.
"Now you get what I mean, right?" Rose giggles. Jack nodded in agreement.
"Vampires have different classes. Like the hunter level and rank. You know that, right?" Rose asked. Jack nodded.
"Vampires of the upper class have pure bloods. Meaning their blood holds ancient memories and strengths. They are called original vampires. They are also the ones that have the power to turn normal humans into vampires by feeding their blood."
"Original vampires range from birth, meaning natural born pure blood vampires and also sired humans where pure bloods turn specific humans. From there a class system is made. Imagine a pyramid and a original pure blood vampire at the top. If he turns a human into a sired vampire and that sired vampire turns another human and so on the pyramid starts to grow. Then the lower class which is at the bottom of the pyramid will have muddled blood. Meaning not pure because of the long line from the original vampire. Those are the ones that we call 'tainted'. Because of that they are not stable and their instinct become that of a beast where they only think of feeding and quenching their thirst."
Rose looks at Jack, waiting for him to process the information.
"Meaning the ones that we hunt are the tainted?" Jack asked.
"Well yes. Majority of them are tainted. But we also hunt originals that are a threat to humanity." Rose explained.
"Like Cain." Jack said and Rose nodded.
"Cain is a progenitor vampire. He is one of the oldest and most ancient. The older the vampire gets the stronger they get. Specially if his blood is the purest form. The ones atop the pyramid." Rose said.
Jack was processing the information he has learned. "Then what are you?" Jack asked.
