Prologue II

" ... Moon Deity, Xinyu ... cannot follow you any longer. ... What to do now?"

Xinyu looked at the face in front of her, he who kept her tight in his embrace. She lifted her hand to lock one of his hair locks with her fingers and smiled dearly at him. She loved the feeling of his silky hair coiling in her hand. Her actions were done leisurely contrasting her pitiful figure laying in his arms. She knew that she didn't have much time left, yet she couldn't bear to show him any weakness. Before she could only sneakily do this when he was asleep. This time, she braved herself to do it while he was awake, after all, this was probably the last time she could do so.

A layer of tears has coated her eyes. She tried her best to smile but couldn't hide traces of helplessness and devastation. It hurt, both her body and mind. Xin Yu's lips were dyed red by her blood and her words earlier were said in tormenting breaths. She could feel her fairy energy draining by the minutes, and her body just wanted to rest. But if she closed her eyes now, who knew if she would ever wake up again.

She knew ahead that this day would come, and had even planned out every single detail of this particular day. However, she never expected he would be here and see her in this state. What a tragic ending?

"... Moon Deity ... you don't have to be like this. ... Xinxi ... Xinling ... Xinbu ... Xin... Xin... everybody else is still here ... with you." Xinyu tried recalling more names, Moon deity has many star spirits by his side, she was just one of them. One of his underlings, just one of his students living in the Moon Palace. There was nothing between them, only her hidden adoration towards him.

Maybe this wasn't a tragic ending. At least she could lay in his warm embrace. "Yu'er, don't speak more. I'll figure this out." He even spoke to her so dearly. Xinyu has never heard his voice like this before. It seemed to be hurried of helplessness. The Moon Deity she knew wouldn't sound like so, he was solemn and stern. His voice was slow and of indifference, as if the matter didn't matter to him at all. Yet now, he sounded desperate, silly her, she must have been delusional.

"Say ... would you miss me ... when I'm gone?" Xinyu said with difficulty. Her throat felt like burning with every word, but she couldn't stop herself with this question. She could no longer see his face, as her tears blurred her vision. She couldn't see how his furrowed eyebrows and angry bloodshot desperate eyes looking at only her. She couldn't see him nod his head multiple times at her question. She didn't notice his hands constantly trying to fuse his fairy energy into her body even though it held no impact.

With the last strength of her body, she held up a lock of his silver hair and kissed it dearly. Her mouth formed the last words to him. Words she had hidden in her hearts all these years. "I ... love you ... so ... so much." With it, she smiled at him one last time and closed her eyes. The heavy eyelids closed easily and left behind streams of tears.

It was a hot midsummer day, yet the wind was chilly. A deep melancholy could be heard in the winds howling. The flowers surrounding them seemed to have wilted, creating a scene of desolation. In the centre sat the Moon Deity, in his arms, was a frail-looking fairy spirit. Her skin was almost transparent as if she could disappear at any time. Yet the Deity held her gently in his arms and watched over her body.

Even after her body had slowly faded into nothing, he sat still in his position. Loving him, she said. Yet she could bear to leave him so heartlessly. Would he miss her, she asked. Every night and day, every minute, every hour, when didn't he miss her? There were other star spirits here, she said. He didn't care, he only wanted her.

What were this distress and agony? His love was so distinct yet she never knew, even before her deathbed, she still couldn't see. With a wave of his hand, he mounted a bolt of death lightning with all of his powers. Couldn't follow you anymore, she said. It didn't matter, he could follow her. Where she goes, he shall be there. They would never be apart any longer.

As the dark clouds surrounded their place, a force field had been built. Silver lights shone in the air, roaring and angry berating. The once wondrous land of Glistening Island was turned to a misty dark graveyard. Intervening the mist, fell petals of plum blossoms. Down on the ground, grew white lilies. As if guiding the way for lost souls, they also glowed a golden light and danced in the air. There shone no moon that night, and no stars could be seen on the night sky, then the darkness soon took over until a new tomorrow came.
