Chapter 69: Different Match Ups

Similar to Ning'Er, Ye Zong felt the pressure to defeat his opponent within a short time frame. After all, his Black Gold Ranked daughter was part of the team taking on a Legend Ranked demon beast! Levitating above the mass of webs, he recognised that this was the dreaded 'death zone' that the dangerous Icy Snow Spider would build when confronting an enemy. This numerous layers of webs beneath him covered an area of fifty by fifty feet, of which the spider lay hiding somewhere within.

In his younger days, he had accompanied his soldiers on expeditions to secure resources for the Snow Wind Family, and the Icy Snow Spider silk was a highly valued material for equipment manufacturers. This silk was extremely light and tough, and if it were made into a rope, it barely took any space to pack, yet could hold the weight of two adult humans!

He allowed himself a grim smile as he realised that he had gotten very lucky in his match up. It was a demon beast of which he was familiar with its abilities because he had fought them before. At the same time, the biggest danger was to get tangled and hindered by the numerous traps of webs, which would allow the demon beast to freely attack its entangled prey with its more lethal venomous fangs and spear-like front appendages. This tricky silk web was something that Ye Zong had a natural counter to.

Without wasting any more time, he directly transformed into his Black Scaled Earth Dragon and began indiscriminately shooting its corrosive black flames all over where the cobwebs lay, even as he landed in the middle of the area with a loud crash. Within a few seconds, every strand of silk that was covered by the insidious black flame began to fray and snap under the corrosive effect.

There was an bizarre shriek of anger as the Icy Snow Spider rushed out from its hiding place, utterly provoked that its carefully prepared 'death zone' was being torn to shreds in the matter of a moments by this repulsive enemy. It dashed towards the dragon beast that was causing so much damage and began shooting out more streams of silk to slow down its prey before it went in for the kill.

In response, Ye Zong took a deep breath and vomited out an even greater burst of black flames, quickly following it with his body as he engaged in his favourite form of battle, close combat! While the spider beast was still distracted by the flames and its precious silk being disintegrated before its highly sensitive eight eyes, it barely saw the dragon beast jumping directly towards it.

Ye Zong immediately grabbed the front two razor sharp legs with powerful dragon claws. Even through the heavily armoured scales on his hands, he could feel the sharpness of the Ice Snow Spider's legs, which left deep white scratches on his palms even though it did not break through and cause bleeding yet.

In close combat strength, he was completely confident that his secondary dragon bloodline beast far surpassed an insect-type demon beast. As long as he was able to avoid the deadly venom from the dripping fangs in front of his face, he should be able to defeat this opponent.

With an incredible roar, he twisted his claws sharply upwards as he gripped the enormous spider's limbs, and heard a loud crack as the hard shell-like armour of the beast began to crack. The Icy Snow Spider screeched in intense pain as the legs it used most for attacking were both broken.

While the Spider was distracted by what was happening to its legs, Ye Zong arched his back to the maximum and with all of his strength, shot out another thick burst of scorching black flames, directly into the spider's face. The demon beast struggled to pull away in sudden fear but Ye Zong continued to hold on firmly to its legs, forcing it to face the direct brunt of the entire release of corrosive fire, which lasted over seven seconds in total.

The Legend Ranked demon beast had no chance under the fury of this relentless onslaught. The match up between the capabilities of the two types of demon beasts were just too unfair for the insect beast to hope to compete. It didn't even have the time to test the waters and escape when it had the chance. Ye Zong's tactics had been too direct, too ruthless and too brutal for it to react to.

As the Icy Snow Spider crumpled to the ground with half of its face melted off, it couldn't even make any more sounds or see anything anymore. All eight of its eyes were charred black, and its unusual vocal chords that allowed it to make the earlier sounds had been completely dissolved. Its brain center had suffered too much damage and it barely had a few more seconds to live. As its consciousness faded away, it lamented facing such a terrifying enemy.

.....

Those situated near to Ye Xiu's battle could hear a series of horrifying and cackling laughter, but none were brave enough to go close to observe because they could all feel the immense ripples of soul force that were pulsing around them and shaking their soul realm every time the two Legend Ranked combatants clashed together.

If you could observe with your eyes, what you would see would be a Hellfiend Baphomet directly smashing against the Scarlet Demonic Leopard over and over. Ye Xiu's demon spirit was from the depths of the Hell Realm, and once he transformed, he could allow the instincts of his demon spirit to take over and engage in the mindless, savage slaughter that it enjoyed the most.

The problem with letting these base, murderous instincts take over was that it would need to be directed towards an enemy first. Fortunately, the winged leopard beast had already massacred or chased away any soldiers in the vicinity.

The Hellfiend Baphomet leaned back its dual horned head and burst into another round of howling laughter. Then dashed straight forward for maybe the fiftieth time to smash its bladed hooves against the demon beast in front of him.

Although the Scarlet Demonic Leopard was a ferocious beast itself, it was getting more and more fearful of this crazed fiend in front of it that didn't seem to care about whether it got injured every time it rushed in for a strike and receiving one in return. It was almost playing a game of seeing how much each of them could handle and experiencing pleasure in the pain of each torturous round.

The leopard had started off growling and roaring fiercely but as time went on, more and more whimpers began to escape from its mouth. As it drew back in tentativeness, it allowed the hellfiend to gather more momentum and cause deep injuries to its body.

Although both of them were covered in scars and blood, Ye Xiu's demon spirit stood proudly and continued to glare evilly at its foe. It licked its malicious jaws as though it were staring at delicious prey.

Seeing the gaze, the leopard beast felt a shuddering chill rush through its bones and without hesitating any longer, turned and tried to fly its broken body away from this nightmare of an opponent. However, its wings were tattered and shredded, and this caused its actions to be incredibly slow compared to the beginning of the battle.

Before it knew it, it felt an immense force crush down on its head as two vicious hooves stomped hard downwards, and followed through in thrusting the leopard's head deep into the ground as both beasts crashed downwards.

In an instant, all that was left of its head were pieces of shattered skull bones and a gooey, red paste.

.....

The Silver Flash was having a lot of trouble facing his Legend Ranked Snow Wind Spiritual Worm opponent. Although he had not received any serious injuries, his insect-type opponent had many strange and peculiar abilities that he was not sure how to counter yet.

First of all, it could send constant waves of icy wind that chilled his bones and left small, painful cuts all over his skin. At the same time, it was able to split into many clones that surrounded its opponent to use its limbs, that were as sharp as steel blades, to attack from many directions.

Although its attacks and defences were not that powerful, the Silver Flash was a warrior that focused on unparalleled speed and singular penetrating attacks of incredible strength. These advantages were not that useful in front of this mysterious demon beast.

He had spent a considerable time in his Wind Spirit Beast form, evading the clones and sending his own attacks at each of them. The Snow Wind Spiritual Worm seemed to be able to control five clones at a time, but every time one was destroyed, it would activate its unconventional ability of splitting into another one so that the Silver Flash was always fighting against five opponents at any given time.

Although he had not been directly hit by any of the clones yet, the bursts of chilling wind blades continue to numb his body, and cover it with an increasing number of shallow cuts. This was truly a battle of attrition. Would his soul force and body's defences hold out longer, or would his opponent's soul force deplete so much that it couldn't replicate any more?

He hated these kind of battles the most, where his usual pattern was to use his extreme speed to quickly finish off his opponent, or to flee if the enemy were too strong for him. As he wondered about what may disrupt the Spiritual Worm's cloning ability, he thought about a weapon he had just obtained recently.

For a warrior like him, it was a weapon he was very reluctant to use because it seemed too cruel and malevolent when he had first seen it, but the appeal of possessing a Legend Ranked weapon to become a heritage artifact of his Winged Dragon Family was just too great for him to resist.

Breaking off his engagement with the five clones in front of him, he suddenly released his Wind Spirit form and changed back into a man. In the same moment, a black coloured spear appeared in his right hand radiating a dark and ominous aura.

The Silver Flash had to grit his teeth in pain as he felt the savage spear tug at his own life force, hungry for fresh lives to reap. It was the Black Spear of the Death Knight from the Sacred Empire Era that Ning'Er had seen in the Winged Lightning Dragon's cave! Unwilling to accept his earlier defeat in his younger years, he had gone back to take the dragon's test and passed it with his Legend Ranked capabilities.

"Soon," he whispered to the spear in his hand. Although it was not a fully sentient weapon like Ning'Er's Thunder God's Meteorite Sword, it had consumed so many souls over the years and wars that there was a small consciousness that was beginning to develop at the core of the weapon. A consciousness that contained a completely brutal and murderous aura.

The painful pulling sensation of the spear trying to suck out his life force calmed down after that, and the spear vibrated with apparent excitement as it sensed the Legend Ranked insect beast in front of it that its master was going to let it consume soon.

After hundreds of years lying dormant in the dragon's cave, the Black Spear was ready to feast again!
