Chapter 2: The Smiling Girl

(The Australian's pov)

My family had just moved from Melbourne as my dad had gotten a job in America. His mother was out here in Seaport and could take care of me while he went to work. My mom had been out of the picture my whole life, and I mainly learned from my friends and from my aunt how to be a girl. Sure it was hard, being without a mother, but I had a pretty good life considering.

I personally did not want to move all the way to America, but I had never met my grandmother out there, and there was an incident back in Australia that had me looking for a change of scenery.

...

I looked over the class I was put in, smiling out of habit. It was a small class compared to what I was used to, with only 20 students. The teacher led me in and introduced me, while I stood there looking at the students. This is a difference. They seem friendly at least.

The teacher motioned for me to speak. "Hello, my name is Abigail Bouchard, as the teacher told you I'm from Australia, nice to meet you all."

The class stared at me in amazement, I was kind of self-conscious and could relate to the transfers back in Aussie, hopefully, I'll survive.

"Welcome Abigail to AP English, you can sit on the empty seat on the third row."

I was quickly seated and greeted by my deskmates, before the teacher started the class, and writing down notes. The office had given me a schedule when I came in and then told me the general direction of my first class. It was a wonderful school, no complaints at all. I would definitely need help from someone to get around today.

Throughout The class, I could feel people staring at me and was uncomfortable, but I guess it was expected. Once the bell rang, a few kids came up to me while the others watched. First was a smiling girl with long brown hair and dark eyes. "Hello, my name is Hannah, I'm part of the student body, do you need any help around the school?" I smiled back, about to agree, when a boy came up.

"Who do you have for second period? Is it Davis by any chance?"

I was extremely confused. He didn't even introduce himself. I felt my smile freeze as I shook my head.

"No, sorry, I don't believe I have, and according to my schedule I have Hieler for second."

The guy seemed disappointed, but the girl he interrupted was mad.

"Conner, please move if you have nothing else to say." Hannah smiled calmly as Conner stiffened.

"Yes ma'am."

Note to self. Do not mess with Hannah. Hannah relaxed her smile at me before stepping in front of Conner. "So, you have Hieler? Mei and I have her too, she's a tough teacher. Oh, Mei is the girl by the window."

I looked over at the window, seeing a girl looking back, her face cold and expressionless as she held a bag over her shoulder. Even though she was expressionless, she was very pretty, with long eyelashes, and light makeup. Mei looked over at us and smiled weakly, looking more annoyed than welcoming as she pulled her dark bangs behind her ear. She walked over when Hannah motioned and introduced herself. "Hi, I'm Mei, welcome to Seaport."

Mei had catlike eyes, slightly western features, and was about 5'5. I smiled and introduced myself again.

"Nice to meet you Mei, I'm Abby, you don't have to use my full name, most people don't." Her hand shook mine, her gold bangles glinting on her golden olive skin. I couldn't help but look at her due to her nice features, but she looked like she might be the sporty type, her track jacket and her way of carrying herself lent to the effect.

Hannah smiled and looked over at us as I finished packing my bag. "Let's hurry up, we don't want to be late for Hieler, she teaches Math, and is extremely strict. I am barely keeping my A with the small number of assignments in right now. "
