To request any aid for my novel, this little auxiliary chapter has been made.
Do not be surprised if it is a bit short.
I have some difficulties with word counts, so my chapters are hard to reach the (best) word count for a chapter (as I'm told) : 2,000. This can result in quick reads that require frequent updates to avoid stale sittings.
Chapters 1-3 should be acceptable with this word count on the bases of introduction alone. The problem will start occurring around the next few intervals of the contest being (4-7) (8-19) (20+).
Chapter 1 is the introduction of the novel. Telling you the circumstance that is Tom Bell and his relationship with the Void; a world and entity that is his home physically and emotionally. As he has no memories, he imprints the Void as the de facto guardian. When given a task and a punishment, as well as guidelines, he follows them.
Chapter 2 introduces in some way, the world of Yu Yu Hakusho. Since this world is an actual anime, it might come off esoteric so pardon me for that. With this chapter, I tried to introduce this world to Tom and the readers unacquainted with the franchise. This includes some funny little nods to the Australian dubs character names as separate but similar characters bearing these names exist. For some, this chapter might be skip-able but it needed to be told anyhow.
Chapter 2 had some technical issues though. This came from the direction I wanted to take it. There were two paths for consideration; one which detoured into the human world to have Tom stay in familiar grounds of humanity so as to flush out his personality. Then, there was the other one that had Tom enter the Spirit World and the supernatural directly so that chapter 3 can have a nice conflict chapter. Thanks to some earlier advise, the latter was the route taken.
Chapter 3 has Tom being situated into the role of Spirit Detective Assistant. This means he cannot be on the front-line but will stand close enough that intervention is inevitable. This leads to the confrontation of the first antagonist, Gouki. Gouki being the large muscle-bound demon that can give the anime's protagonist a beat-down, can be overbearing for Tom himself. Then, Tom has to weigh in the possibilities of the other antagonists, Kurama and Hiei, being stronger. So enters the strategy of trying to avoid being wounded seriously (or killed) and debating the first and only use of his skill [Spirit Blast]. It tests the brains and conviction for the protagonist of the story and hopefully gives off a good impression for readers.
