Chapter 104: My Fellow Workers
Fem saw the excitement and happiness in everyone's expressions. They feasted on the food as they merrily chatted. Those who are bolder approached Fem who was sitting next to Steve holding her plate just like everbody else. She refused to be served on a table. After all, she has the blood of a cowboy!
They greeted her with large smiles and thank you's not forgetting to give their supervisor a slight kick at his legs as they left. In their eyes, as if their supervisor has long kept a secret from them. They were jealous of him for having such a young and beautiful woman beside him.
Steve gave each one of them a glare when they passed by him. He was indeed flattered to have such a beautiful lady beside him although she wasn't his. He just hopes she doesn't have a boyfriend yet.
Fem ate faster than everyone so she could start to say what she wanted to say while most of them are still sitted. After she finished her food, she drank a little bit of water then paused for a minute before she stood up.
She scanned the whole circle of employees who were happily chatting as they ate.
"My fellow workers of this company, I am very glad to have met everyone of you today. Please enjoy your food while you listen as I speak so we can maximize the use of our time....
As you know, I started working in this company just three months ago. I spent the first two months digging the possible reasons why this company was on its verge of bankruptcy. I found out that among the reasons were unliquidated expenses and alarming cash salary advances.
If you've noticed, I ordered the stop of salary cash advances for those who've accumulated advances of one month's salary and up.This is to normalize the flow of our company. I understand our needs but we also need to manage our company well if we want to have a continuous source of income.
I will continue to do this until our company is back on its normal track, although it's stable now but we need to earn more so that we can all be happy.... if you know what I'm talking about." She smiled as she scanned everyone's expression. It seems they understood what she was saying by being happy. By this, they understood that the company has to be well managed so that they will not lose their jobs and they can enjoy more benefiting. "It's important that you understand this and I'm glad to see your responses." She raised her pen in the air as she looked at everyone. They were nodding their heads.
" By the way, later this afternoon, you will be receiving your 13month pay, Steve will bring it back this afternoon and you'll get it before you go home. Your insurances are all updated in case you need it but I pray no one will encounter an accident this holidays. Meanwhile, those who are going home should enjoy their family and friends. Merry Christmas to all of us! Enjoy the lunch!" She finished her piece then slightly bowed and sat down.
Steve rose up and cleared his throat. "By the way, before everyone of you begin to hate me for sitting next to our beautiful young manager, aren't you going to ask if she is my girlfriend or she has already a boyfriend?" He laughed a bit as he eyed at those boys who kicked his feet not long while ago.
"So sir Steve, is she your girlfriend then?" One tall young man stood up from behind the group of girls.
"Maam Fem, may I apply as your body guard!" shouted another.
"Manager Fem, I can do a secretarial job too!" Another one joked at the side.
Everyone cheered and the mood became more light. Fem rode on their cheerful mood not wanting to kill their fun.
"Being a manager is tough though, I can't manage this company branch if my mind is occupied by my boyfriend. So I skip that thing. Let us work together and make this company grow!" She decided to stay professional.
After that lunch when everyone proceeded to their work, Fem roamed around the warehouse to check how everything was being done. After scribbling her observation and making some mental notes, she needed to return to her office to spend the rest of the day.
Fem called her boss Ernest. She has already filed a two-week leave. All she needed was to finish everything before leaving the office today. All the dues were settled except of those two anonymous callers who were asking to collect some amount. She will be going home tomorrow, so how are they going to transact? Fem called Percy about it.
In the end, Percy cannot say anything about it. It was obvious that he was hiding something from her.
"When are you coming up? I'll go down to take care of those transactions then. Don't worry about them." He said.
"But who are they? I want to know them, and why cant I find any transaction details about them?" Fem asked feigning ignorance. The truth is, she believed what Mark has told her. It must have been some so called grease transactions between the mayor and her boss Percy while the the other one must be the rebels who threatened to bomb prestigious companies who refuse to give what they call revolutionary tax.
Percy, being the one that they knew for the past years must have been worried that this lady will anger them and bomb their warehouse or ambush their truck and burn them along the way. All these years, he saw how notorious they are in dealing with someone who did not comply with their demand.
Fem wanted to tell him about their agreement with Mark. But she held her thought. She will see how her predecessor would handle this problem. She took note of every detail in her office especially the bank accounts. She will know what he had done when she returns.
That night in her bedroom, Fem was packing her stuff in her back pack for going home tomorrow. Her phone on the bedside table lit up and buzzed. It was Mark.

ukitz Hey dear readers, This chapter was uploaded before I knew it. I edited it twice but it wasn't appearing on WN. I have now taken it down for the second time then upload it again just to make sure my edition appears.
