Chapter 1: The Hero
Chaper 1: The hero
It is the blackest night.
I can hear my heart beat in this darkness. The loudest thing in this space.
I hope there is light.
Then there is light. The brightest thing I have ever seen.
"hey" I said out loud. Wondering why I am here. "anyone here?"
"yes" said the voice. A calm tiny voice.
"what am I doing here? Am I dead?" I asked.
"No, you're not. You're alive." it said.
"Then why am I here?" confused. The last time I remember is sleeping on a plane.
"I saved you. Your plane fell out of the sky. You're the only survivor." He said peacefully.
Then, in the bright light, comes the most beautiful black horse that I've ever seen. Also, it has a lot of legs. This horse shines in this bright light. I don't know why, but I feel safe with him.
"I am sleipnir." Said the horse without moving its mouth.
"You have lots of legs." Thanks captain obvious.
"8 to be exact." Looking down on its legs. "come walk with me."
Then we walk. I don't know where we are heading. I just followed it.
"You saved me, why?" I asked.
"I saved you because you want to become a hero." He said as a matter of fact.
"Ow. Ok then. But why?"
"Why? Because in the midst of chaos and screams. You asked for the happiness and protection of your family. And become a hero before you die."
"No, I mean. Do I deserve to be saved? I'm sure there are people on the plane more deserving and more noble than me. I am no one. I am nobody. I'm just a simple guy. I don't have the power or authority to save people, that's why I wish for the protection of my family."
"You're right. There are people on that plane more capable and much better than you in every way. People who have the power and influence to change the world. Why you, you asked? It is because you want to save them, that is why I saved you." He said.
"Is it possible to save them now?" I asked.
"No. It is not possible. But I can still grant your wish to become a hero. I want you to save a kingdom in another world." Then he looked ahead of us. Like an opening portal, I saw people fighting. Swords, spears, magic and armors banging together. Monsters, elves, giant monsters and out of this world creatures. Then after a few moments, the vision zooms out. I didn't see anyone fighting now. Only an island. After a few seconds. A spherical force field appeared. It did cover most of the island but not all.
"Like I said, I am a simple guy. I am only an ordinary man. They seems violent and ready to kill. I don't know how to survive there." If you just saw it. There's a lot of blood in that battle field. "You just save me but you're gonna send me to the death."
We stop walking. Sleipnir faced me and telepathically said to me. "People outside the barrier are going to die in a few months. The people inside the shield will experience terrible things in the hand of the Demonlord."
"It is not my world. I mean, I didn't even know them." I told him. I mean, earth is practically peaceful. Besides, I don't even have a training for war. All I know about war is based on video games, animes and movies. "Can I just go back home?"
"Yes you can. But you will live in an isolated island for a few months for sure." He said. "I thought you want to become I hero?"
"Yeah, I want to… it's just that, it is a fantasy world." I complained. Maybe I want to become a hero because of too much anime and movies in my blood.
"hahaha!" he laughed I didn't know horses can laugh like that. "It is a fantasy world for you. But for others it is their reality. They face hardship all the time. Just like you, they die there and brutally. They pray for a hero. They need a hero."
I can't believe this is happening. "I am not noble, I'm not always good. You know. Sometimes, I'm a jerk. Do you still want me to be your hero?" I said to him.
"I know. Everyone has a dark side, a bad side. Even me have that. Every living creature have that. You should also realize that every one also has a good side." He said while smiling. This is a really weird horse. Then he continued. "I trust your good and bad side. That is why I chose you. So, do you want to be a hero?"
"Ok. I accept. But I can't assure you I can save them. Ok?" I told him.
"Don't worry, I will give you this coin." He said. Then a floating black coin appeared in front of me. I took it and checked it. There on this side, I have my face embossed on it. On the other side, sleipnir. "It is a weapon. Try to toss it."
I did what he asked me to do. I toss it and catch it. It landed on my palm, on the top is sleipnir side. Then suddenly, it turned to spear. A jet black spear.
"It is made of Stygian Steel. The most durable metal I have. And it will never miss its target." He said proudly.
"Cool. Thank you. But I don't know how you use this." I told him.
"that's ok. You only need to use it in a few days. Maybe a month at most. Because I'm going to give you powers there."
"Really? What kind of powers?!" haha I guess I can't hide my excitement in my voice.
"I don't know yet. But I will send it to you once you are there." He said. "You have to go now." Then he is starting to fade.
"What is happening?" I panicked. " Are you ok?"
"I am ok. It just that, someone notices us here. A guardian of a world probably. You should go."
"Are you sure you're really ok?" I asked.
"I am ok. Jump to the portal." He orders. There is an authority in his voice.
"I looked back to him." Then smiles. "Thank you for this chance."
"No, thank you for granting my wish. Here is another gift." He turn away and kick me hard in the chest.
It doesn't feel like a gift at all. It hurts a lot.
I started falling to this new world.
I don't know what it is called. All I know is that this is a world of magic.
And I am the hero of this world.
Because I am chosen to become its hero.
