Chapter 4: 10 Evil Spells

As Jennifer walked further and further into the forest, she kept asking the sticks questions about their evil powers, and they kept answering them. She had discovered that the sticks had a dark side to them when they had told her about their evil powers, and this confirmed it. For sure.

" How do you activate your evil powers?" Jennifer had asked the ten sticks.

" In addition to our individual evil powers, we also have individual evil spells," one of the sticks replied.

Jennifer decided to go back to her parents because she was worried that they would be worried that she wouldn't go out of the forest. Her dad said, " Jennifer, thank goodness you're here. Are these sticks strong enough to be used in our bonfire?"

Jennifer felt the sticks and honestly replied, " Dad? These aren't strong enough for the bonfire."

" Okay, Jennifer. Can you look for some other sticks?"

" Sure. Of course."

Jennifer walked back into the forest once again and asked the sticks, " What do I do? I won't be able to find ten sticks in time for the bonfire. I know I promised but-"

" But what?" One of sticks interrupted her.

" But I might have to, I don't want to say it."

" Burn us?" One of the sticks asked.

" Yes. I'm sorry, all of you. I know I promised not to but I have to, for my parents. Please forgive me."

" How dare you! Traitor! We trusted you, Jennifer, and now you blew it up!" The sticks chorused.

" I'm really sorry," Jennifer said. She sat down on a tree stump and she started to sob.

" But you betrayed us!" One of the sticks yelled.

Then finally, Jennifer picked up the ten sticks and walked out of the forest. She handed her parents the ten sticks, her eyes on the sticks instead of her parents, so she ended up dropping three of the sticks.

" Thank you so much, Jennifer," her parents said in unison.

" You're welcome,"said Jennifer, her voice starting to crack. She felt a lump in her throat as she watched her parents drop the sticks into the bonfire. A single tear went down her cheek as the ten sticks started to burn. But the fire didn't stay where it was supposed to, it went off to the side a bit.

" Looks like I didn't quite put the sticks in the right way," Jennifer's dad murmured.

But Jennifer knew right away that one of the sticks was using its evil power. This confirmed it:

" The fire the direction, the fire my reflection," one of the sticks said.

" Through the night, people have dreams, but through the day, people have nightmares," another stick boomed.

" Duplicato, duplicate!" Another stick yelled. The sticks all duplicated, and the fire got larger.

Before another stick could cast a spell, Jennifer called to her parents, " Run!" But it was too late. Her parents were already lying on the ground, snoring and drooling like babies. At that moment, she realized that their trust of her was a little too strong, despite the fact that she had betrayed them, and that was why none of the spells took effect on her, well, not yet.

" Invisible, invisible. Now, we're invinsible!" One of the sticks screamed.

" Why are you doing this to us?" Jennifer asked. She felt the spells starting to have an effect on her, too.

" You betrayed us! You are no longer of our trust!"

Jennifer couldn't understand why they had trusted her less than a minute ago, but all of a sudden, their trust of her had somehow been broken. Then Jennifer also collasped to the ground, sleeping as well as a baby would.
