Chapter 11: Plunge into Darkness

Emily stared at the limp body, her eyes narrowed in thought as the words played back in her mind. When she finally spoke, Az was surprised to find no fear in her voice, and instead there seemed to only be inquisitiveness that made him smile in admiration, "Az..." She turned to meet his eyes, "What...exactly is the brotherhood? You said this man was selling....children?"

He took a seat on a red sofa opposite the bed and patted the spot beside him for Emily to sit. She looked back at the body, her stomach twist once more before she turned and made her way to his side. She felt uncomfortable staying in a room with a dead man, but Azazel didn't seen concerned and so she tried to follow suit.

"The Brotherhood wasn't always filled with forbidden pleasures and toxic souls. Originally, the Brotherhood had been an organization built on a foundation of community, acceptance, and support for eachother. It was meant to be a safe haven for those who joined as well as their families, " He gently wrapped an arm around her shoulder, drawing her close and stroking her hair as he continued,

"As the size and power of the Brotherhood grew, greed began to sprout within it's members as well. Not all of them, of course, but enough to start causing subtle changes behind the scenes. Men of importance within the Brotherhood began to want more benefits, those with greedy souls were not satisfied simply helping others, they wanted more. There were a few members who began trading illegally under the table, children began to be brought in as slaves, elders with morals and old ways were disposed of in secret. The Brotherhood Sigil was becoming tainted, but they kept their image clean on the surface. Bringing in new members often and either converting them to their ways or using them for their own benefits. When I began dying in the womb and the demon Rognal visited my father to help us, he chose to expose to my father a hidden threat that most others, the wicked ones included, were not aware of. When he realized my father had joined the Brotherhood in an attempt to make human friends, Rognal told him of the demon lord Xaxial. He went by the name Peter in the human world, and he was the head of the Brotherhood. He used his power to feed his needs...to keep him here safely. " He sighed and hung his head, "He has killed so many to maintain his power....and my father had no more demon strength to face him," He lifted his gaze to look at her once more, "And so, I chose to spend my time and energy wisely, and I decided I had to take down Xaxial."

Emily had no words for how she felt. She removed her mask, staring down in shock. Did her father know the truth of the Brotherhood? How many people had she shook hands with that had been involved in so many horrid things? Her eyes grew wider as she considered the possibilities and she quickly tried to shake of all from her mind, shutting her eyes tightly and burying her face against his warm chest. He held her and soothed her, rubbing her back in gently, rhythmic circles.

His voice, deep yet serene, purred into her ear, "Dont be sad, little lamb. Now you are here. Now, you can help me, and we shall be magnificent together. " He tilted her head back by her hair, her bun coming down in a curtain of curls. He bit down on her neck gently and she let out a soft sigh, tilting her head back further to offer him more, which he accepted eagerly. His bites became more forceful, his teeth stinging into her skin, and Emily found she enjoyed the euphoric high she got every time he made her ache simply to lick it away. She was addicted to him, and he had been right before. There was no turning back.

Pulling away from her reluctantly, her heart pounding as she caught her breath, he looked back to the wall where James lay. "I suppose we should get out of here. Not very good setting for your first time, " He chuckled, stroking her cheek and she flushed in embarrassment before standing. He continued to speak, "When they find him it will appear as if he had a heart attack. We can still see the orchestra if you'd like? Less suspicious than leaving early, and gives you a story to tell your mother," He handed her back the mask to put on, "I somehow doubt she would find as much intrigue as you did with the true one," He winked and led her out of the building, women thanking him as they left, and they made there way around the front entrance where they watched the remainder of the performance.

The music was slow and eerie, played mostly in minor, spreading a somber cloud over the hearts of the audience, drawing out their insecurities and pains. But for once, Emily didn't feel trapped in darkness as she normally had in life.

No. This time she found pleasure and thrill in it. She turned to look at Azazel and, sensing her, he flashed her a warm smile. She blushed and relaxed into her seat, her arm wrapped in his and closed her eyes to listen to the last song.
