Chapter 3: Bluot-Ana-Regan

March 9, 2033

5:32 PM

My feet kept going. One step. Two steps. Three. Four. I kept running. I never cared about the sprouting daffodils that Uncle had nourished. I stepped on to the plots and strangled out in the grape forms. The rain was still pouring. The clouds were grayish that I couldn't even tell where's the sun. I don't care. I couldn't even tell whether the droplets on my face are my tears or sweat or the rain. The mud on my head were crawling down on my body.  I breathed heavily as my body jiggled with every large steps I made.

My feet. My legs were starting to feel numb as my slipper was already been tore.

What if he's dead? Who did that? Where's Papa? What about Kari? Uncle? Auntie? How is my brother? What if he was shot on his head? Why isn't he getting up? WHY ISN'T GETTING UP?

"Brother? ARTHUR!!!" I screamed on top my lungs while running like a mad woman who lost her child.

What if he's drowned? What will I do? What should I bring? What if I'll be shot too? What if I die?

"No. No. No." I jabbed some and then... "Arthur!!!" A crack voice came. I never care. I never stop running.

My head was over thinking. My heart was racing. I was few steps before the pond and I could already see Frenzie standing beside the tree.

"Peter!!" I heard a distant cry behind me.

"Father!"

It was Marice's voice.

My eyes widened. It was towards Uncle and the rest. I hurriedly looked back while running.

What happened? I thought while breathing heavily.

No. No. No!

I stopped for a second.

Arthur! I hurriedly got back on running as I remembered my brother. My head hurts. I was thinking going back but what about Arthur.

What is happening?

I glanced towards Auntie again.

I saw Marice jumped off the porch running towards Auntie.

Why are they on the ground?

I saw Kari crying on the porch.

"Kari! Wha- OUCH!!!" I trip myself. My face was splashed with mud.

I felt helpless. My feet could not go on. I cannot feel my body as it was lying down on the mud.

"Kari, w-what's going on?" I whispered while tears flow down. I cried as I closed my eyes and rest my head on the mud.

"Please. Help us." I said. I don't know whom I'm talking. I just muttered again and again and again as I heard distant cries. I heard sound of splashing droplets. I heard thunderclaps above the glade. I heard...

Bang!

I suddenly lifted up my eye lids and struggled to get up.

Another gunshot echoed.

The cries disappeared.

No. No. No. Tears bursted out my eyes as an image my family lying down on the ground stroke my head.

I slowly gazed towards Marice, and...

I suddenly collapsed on the ground as I was relieved to see them ducking beside the apple tree.

Bang!

I quickly duck as another gunshot resounded.

My eyes lit up as I looked at the glade.

The gunshots came from the glade!!!

"Papa was there!"

My body trembled. I felt cold, my hands were shivering already.

No!

I bit my lip as I got up on my feet while ducking.

Few more steps.

I mustered up my strength as I ran as fast I could.

Bang!

"Ahhh!" I was surprised that I squealed enough for Auntie to hear. I dove beside the pond while searching my body if there's any shots.

"Sara!" It was Auntie. They were still near our house.

No. No. Don't get up.

"I'm alright!" I shouted. My lips quivered as cold air flapped my face. I made a long sigh while catching up my breathed. One. Two. Three. At last I calmed myself.

I slowly crawled towards pond to search my brother.

"Arthur?"

I slowly rolled my eyes over the pond.

My eyes widened as I trembled.

"Arthur?" I whispered while staring blankly at a floating body on the pond.

"Hey, A-arthur. G-get up." I said. I was shocked that I couldn't even move knees to crawl.

"Please, Ar-" I cut. His floating fingers twitched.

"Arthur!!!"

I quickly tried to stand but my knees were trembling with fear. I was scared.

I got no choice.

I punched my thighs then straddled on the pond. I was not that really deep. But it was cold and it was raining.

Auntie saw me going down the pond. Her face were still covered by mud as well as her golden hair which was already shambled.

"Marice. Go get the wagon." She quickly ran towards Uncle who's been lying down on the ground, really weak.

"What?" Marice said she was puzzled by what Auntie said.

"Go get the wagon, hurry!" Auntie replied as she grabbed Uncle and lift him up.

"Peter, push yourself up. Kari, help me." She said.

Marice quickly ran inside the barn while ducking to get our horse.

"Peter, push yourself up. What the hell happened to dear?" Auntie complain as they struggled to lift him up.

"Argh!" They took Uncle on to the porch for him to sit.

Kari looked at Auntie. She was indeed scared. Her hand were still shivering, her lips were already pale. Her face tells she felt crying but she was holding back. Auntie looked at her.

"Kari, clean yourself up and go get change." Auntie said.

"Kari." Auntie repeated as Kari was staring blankly at her.

Kari was surprised as she quickly ran inside the house.

"Careful dear." Auntie said as she rolled her eyes towards my direction.

"Wagon's ready." Marice opened the barn while holding the reigns of Joey, a black horse with white spot on his eyes.

"Help me here." Auntie quickly tried lift again Uncle Peter and they put him in the wagon.

"Marice. Stay inside and lock all the doors and windows. Do not open if someone knocks. Okay?" Auntie.

"Huh? B-but what about you?"

"Sara and I will bring your father and Arthur to the town hospital, kay?"

"I'll go with you."

"No. What about Kari?"

Marice got silenced.

"She was still a child. She was scared." Auntie paced towards Marice and pat her shoulders.

"Just stay her dear. Okay? Don't go outside." She said.

"Do not go outside." She repeated when Marice didn't answer.

"Okay. Be careful."

"You too honey." Auntie kissed Marice forehead.

"Auntie!" I shouted as I grabbed my brother out of the pond.

I looked at my hand.

Blood?

My head went blank. I was just staring there for few second.

Arthur's fingers twitched.

"Arthur? Arthur." I shrugged his shoulder calling his name again and again.

"Sara."

I quickly gazed towards the voice. It was Auntie. My eyes stung as my tears flowed out.

"Auntie."

"How's Arthur?" She asked as she stumbled upon me.

I didn't answer. I just cried and looked at my brother.

"Come on. Help me." Auntie carried him on her back as we ran as fast we could away from the pond. I saw Frenzie eating grass beside the pond.

I kept on glancing towards the glade as we ran.

Papa.

I thought. I remembered the gunshots that echoed. I remembered how it hit my brother while we're playing. I stopped stop myself from thinking about Papa getting shot. I shook my head as I hold my brother to help Aunte.

"To the wagon." She said as we reached beside our house. I saw Marice  standing on the porch as she grabbed her left arm while Kari was right after Thomas standing before the door.

"Did you call the cops?" I said we put my brother inside the wagon.

Marice and Auntie suddenly looked at me. Marice eyes widened.

"I'm sorry. We forgot." She quickly paced inside the house.

"Sara, get up here." Auntie said. She already on the front seat. I hurriedly ran towards the wagon and struggled to climbed up.

"Kari. Close all the doors and windows. Do not go outside. Do not go outside. Okay?" I said.

Kari nodded as she ran inside the house. I glanced the glade again as the wagon started to move.

"Don't worry. I know Gilbert's fine."

Auntie said. I looked at her.

I hope so.

I clenched my fist as it laid on my lap. I cannot stop shivering. I bit my lip.

"Uncle?" I was surprised to see Uncle Peter. He was really pale and weak and -

Blood?

"Auntie!" I screamed as Uncle Peter vomit blood. Auntie quickly looked.

"Sara hold the reigns! Drive as fast as you could."

"Okay." I grabbed the reigns as we switched seat. My hands were trembling.

"Peter. Look at me. Peter open your eyes!" Auntie said as she wipe then blood. I didn't see her cry. I looked at her face. There was nothing. Her eyes were so strong that I couldn't see any fear on her face.

"What happened to him?" I asked. Auntie didn't answer.

"Hiyaah!" I hit Joey once more.

Sorry. Joey.

"M-mar-rie *blurp*." Uncle tried to speak.

"No. No. Just open your eyes. Open your eyes. Don't talk. Don't talk. Just look at me darling." Auntie said as she hugged Peter's head. She glanced my brother.

"Sara, do you have any cloth here?" She said. I shook my head.

"I don't know. Hiyaah!" I said as I hit Joey again.

Rip!

I heard a sound of ripping. It was my Auntie's sleeves. She pressed it on to my brother's wound. She gazed her husband.

"Peter! Do not close your eyes! Don't close your eyes! We're almost there." She said. She pressed once more.

"Argh." I heard my brother grump.

I bit lip. I felt crying again. I hit Joey once again.

Sorry Joey. I'll just double your meal. I thought.

"Auntie. We're almost there. I can see....the...town." For a second I was really confused. And my eyes widened when I realized it.

Townspeople were going crazy. They were running. Most of them were carrying someone. We heard lots of screams, cries. A lot were shouting "Help!" But no one cared. They just ran.

"What's happening?" Auntie asked as she gazed outside.

"I don't kn- Ah!!" I was shocked when the wagon suddenly bounce.

Speed bump?

I looked behind the wagon

My eyes widened. It was a body. I rolled my eyes. Cold crawled over my body as I saw dozens of bodies laying on the road. All of them had bloods on their mouth and on their nose.

"What on earth -" Auntie cut.

"Cover your nose!"

Auntie and I looked at a cop on the street corner while assisting other people.

"Cover your mouth and nose!" He shouted once again.

I quickly covered my nose by hand while holding the reigns.

"Stop!" I pulled the reigns as a pregnant woman passed by. She was struggling to walk and really weak. I was going to jumped off the wagon to help her but-

"Stay away from her!!!" The cop shouted at me.

I was so confused of what he said.

*Blurp*

She burped blood in front of Joey.

My eyes widened. She struggle to stand and suddenly collapsed while blood pouring out of her nose. She looked at me. I trembled. I was so scared that I can't even hold the reigns.

"Cover your nose." Auntie suddenly covered my nose by a cloth. She was already wrapped herself up.

"I don't what is happening, we need to hurry. I don't know if this two can hold up much longer." She pressed the wounds of my brother again.

I looked at my brother. He was already pale. He was losing so much blood.

I shook my head and clenched my fist on the reigns.

"HIYAAH!"

Don't die.
