Chapter 17: Second First Meeting
"In the end, I ended up sleeping in your house. Are you sure you are okay now?" Jamie asked before yawning. Mira's mother refused to let her leave last night while saying it was already late and that its dangerous for girls to go home alone at that time. And since Jamie lives alone, she didn't refuse too much and let Mira's mother have her way.
"Did you wait for too long?" She asked.
Mira looked at Jamie and shook her head. "Lets go."
Together, they walked towards their school. When they were about to enter their classroom, Mira stopped. She could feel herself sweating. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself.
Its fine she told herself.
She entered the room. Nobody looked at her weirdly which was a relief to her. She saw Jamie already sitting in her chair. She hurriedly went to her own chair while looking around. They were quite early so their other classmates haven't arrived yet. Mira released the breath she was holding.
"Hey Mira!" A sudden bear hug caught her off-guard. She froze.
"Kang Jun! You must be tired of living!" Jamie's angry voice rang beside Mira. That's when she realized that it was Kang Jun who hugged her.
Upon seeing Jamie angry, Kang Jun immediately moved away while raising his hand in surrender. "Sorry. I was just glad that she's okay."
Mira took a deep breath. She was really trying to calm herself but Kang Jun's sudden hug caused her heart to beat irregularly again. She cant help it. She glared at Kang Jun.
When Kang Jun saw it, he stopped. "Mira.. Did you just glared at me?" He asked her as if he couldn't believe it.
She smiled at him. "You must be imagining things."
"I definitely saw it... "
Mira turned around a sighed. She found it tiring to be cautious. To hell with it! She thought to herself. Didn't she tell herself that she will live fully?
Let them say whatever they want to say! Mira thought rebelliously.
"By the way, who brought me to the infirmary?" She asked Jamie. She vaguely remembers that when she asked her last time, Jamie only answered by saying a knight helped her.
Jamie grinned at her. "Ah. That? You better thank him properly okay. That was... "
She didn't hear the rest. Mira's senses became suddenly too aware. She unconsciously looked towards the door. And there, she saw him.
What the hell is this? She thought.
She already swore to herself that she wouldn't fall for him again, but here she is again, committing the same madness all over again. Her eyes followed him until Eugine sat in his seat which is behind her.
Her eyes met his. That's when she realized that she's been staring at him for too long. Mira's eyes widened. She immediately turned around and wished that she could bury herself in the ground.
"Hey Kang Jun, what would you think if someone stared at you for too long?" She asked Kang Jun who is sitting on her other side.
"Hmm? I would think they were admiring me of course. Why are you asking?" He looked at her intently and pointed rudely at Eugine. "Is that why you were staring at him? Because you're admiring him?"
Kang Jun didn't bother to lower his voice. It was actually in the average volume, but since Kang Jun was sitting beside her, and the people who shouldn't hear that are sitting on her other side and behind her, Jamie and Eugine naturally heard it. Jamie became interested in their conversation and although Eugine didnt look at them, his pen had stopped writting.
Mira always saw herself as a calm and passive person, so the feeling of wanting to bash and strangle someone is quite new to her. It was a liberating feeling but since she couldn't exactly bash Kang Jun, she settled on glaring at him.
Kang Jun blinked at her. "What?"
Mira's mind quickly worked to find an excuse. She cleared her throat. "O-of course not. I was just surprised, thats all. I was wondering who he is because he's unfamiliar.
"Oh. I see." Kang Jun easily accepted her excuse. "That's right, you went sick exactly when he was introducing himself right. This is Eugine Han."
Although he was aloof, Eugine is far from rude. He put down his pen and nodded his head to Mira. Mira had no choice but to face him and introduce herself.
"Im Mira. Its nice to meet you." She introduced herself while trying to avoid his eyes.
"Mira?" Eugine repeated.
A shiver went down Mira's spine when she heard Eugine say her name. She slowly looked at his face. Their eyes met, and Mira wasn't able to look away.
"Do we.. Know each other?" He asked her while looking at her eyes.
In Mira's memories, Eugine's eyes was always cold. But right now, she cannot find those cold eyes. The eyes that was staring at her was the brightest shade of brown she'd ever seen. In the past and even in the present, those eyes were the most beautiful eyes she'd ever seen, but this time, the coldness was nowhere to be found.
"Do we know each other?" Eugine repeated.
Mira remembered their vow that wasn't supposed to be broken for their whole life in the past. Her heart flinched in pain and while looking at his eyes, she answered.
"No. We do not know each other."
