Chapter 25: An Illusion

Jamie's heart froze then sped up again. She stretched out her hand but stopped, she couldn't bear to stop the illusion.

The face of a handsome boy looked at her in worry. Pale skin and red lips, a face that gives the calm demeanor that fits a scholar. Someone who is as if couldnt get angry.

She blinked and the familiar face is gone, replaced by a face that screamed confidence about its own masculinity. Sculpted jaw and high nose paired with a light brown eyes framed with thick lashes.

A stranger.

Jamie hastily pulled away. The man gently let go of her.

"Sorry about that." the man apologized again.

The man basically did nothing wrong, so Jamie is getting embarrassed by her own attitude.

"No. Its okay. I was the one trespassing."

The man nodded. "Is there anything you need?"

Jamie's head blanked out. Is there anything she needs from this place? Of course, there's none. She's merely trespassing out of curiosity. But answering with just 'nothing' would be kind of awkward.

"Actually, I just got curious about this place. I'm graduating highschool student, so I'm thinking of things that I can do after I graduate. I also know someone who is a rescuer. I just thought that being a rescuer is kind of amazing."

Smooth Jamie. Well done. Sometimes, even she was surprised by how smooth her excuse-making skills is.

"Oh. I see. Since you are already here, why don't I show you around?" he offered.

"Would that be fine? Im Jamie by the way." she offered her hand for a handshake.

The man stared at her hand for a moment before taking it.

"Im Jackson."

When Jackson took her hand, Jamie felt electricity run on her blood that she almost pulled away but she held on, wanting to see Jackson's reaction.

Jackson just smiled, as if nothing happened.

Jamie blinked and smiled back. What the hell was that? Is it only her then?

For some reason, that thought sent her into a bad mood.

While Jackson toured her in the rescue station, Jamie took her time to scrutinized him. Aside from his pretty face, the first thing she noticed is that he's tall. She barely reached his shoulders while they are walking side by side.

"Do you want to become a rescuer?" Jackson asked her.

Jamie looked at him. "I don't know."

Jackson thought that she must be confused about her future so he tried to console her.

"Don't worry about it. You're still young so-"

"I'm not that young." Jamie felt the need to interrupt and make him understand that. "I'm already 18 years old."

Jackson blinked, surprised that he was interrupted.

"How old are you Mr. Jackson?" Jamie continued.

Jacksom suddenly grinned. "Im 25 years old."

Seven. He's older than her by seven years. Is that why he's treating her as if she was a child? Jamie pursed her lips. She didn't like the idea of anyone treating her as if she's a kid.

Jackson was pretty perceptive, and he immediately noticed the unhappiness Jamie was feeling.

"Is there something wrong?" he asked.

"Its nothing."

They just met and it would be rude to ask more so Jackson let it go while trying to rack his brains for any clue on what could have made her unhappy.

He led her to inside the station so that he could show her how it looked, holding the door open so that Jamie can enter first. For a moment, Jamie stared at him again.

Jamie entered then stopped in her tracks. Jackson was surprised that he almost bumped on her back. He looked at what she's staring at.

There are three other people inside the station. First is a guy who was reading a magazine for men with his feet crossed. Another guy who could be considered cute with a baby face was eating instant noodles while the other guy was half naked and was about to change his shirt.

They all stopped what they were doing when a girl wearing a high school uniform entered the station.

The guy who was about to change his shirt looked at his flabby body before looking at Jamie in horror.

Jamie just looked at him without expression.

Jackson pinched his glabella. "What are you guys doing?"

In that moment, the three guys moved in a speed befitting that of a rescuer. Within five seconds, the guy who was reading a magazine managed to shove the magazine under the table while the one who was going to change wore the shirt so fast that its inside out. The guy who was eating instant noodles just sat properly, staring at them while eating his noodles.

"Oh Jax. It's just you. I thought it was the chief." the guy who was reading a magazine said after he sighed in relief.

"Who is she?" the instant noodles guy asked.

"Ahjussi, don't you think it's rude to ask someone's name without giving yours first?" Jamie said.

Instant noodles guy choked on his food after hearing her answer.

"Ahjussi? Me?" he said indignantly. He was quite proud of his baby face. To be called an ahjussi with his age and face is just unacceptable.

"This is Jamie." Jackson introduced. "She was curious about being a rescuer so I offered to explain things to her."

The three guys blinked in silence. Just how bored and nice you have to be to offer a tour to a curious highschool girl?

"Hello. I'm Jamie." Jamie introduced herself politely.

After looking around the station and seeing the time, Jamie decided that it's time to go home. She excused herself.

"Its already late. Do you want me to walk you to the bus station?" Jackson asked her.

Jamie was surprised by the offer, however she declined it politely. "There's no need. I can take care of myself."

Jackson stared at her face for a moment before saying; "I'll walk with you to the bus station."

Jamie was startled. "Huh?"

Before she can say anything, Jackson already started walking. She had no choice but to follow him.

"I told you that there's no need." She hates it when her opinion is being disregarded.

"Do you know the three kinds of women that bastards like to follow?" Jackson asked.

Jamie was taken aback with the random question.

"The first are the very pretty ones, the second are the timid girls.." he looked at her. "The third are the feisty ones."

"What are you talking about?"

"There are some bastards out there who like to prey on girls like you. The fight excites them." Jackson said in a dark tone. He looked at her then. "Even if you are brave and strong, you're still a girl. It would be better to always act on the safe side."

Jamie suddenly stopped in her tracks. She stared at Jackson with indescribable expression.

"What's wrong?" he asked. They were almost at the bus station.

"Nothing. What you said just reminded me of something."

Long ago, there was someone who said the exact words to her..

When Jackson gazed at the girl's face, he found that he somehow cannot take his eyes away.

"Mr. Jackson. Can I come to the station again?" she asked quietly.

"..... Sure."
